Avatar n tn I noticed on your discussion board that the latter is a generic. Now, what I would like to know is which is the best medicine I should be taking and how should I approach my Endocrinologist for a change in prescription. I want to thank you very much for having this message board to solve problems. This is great and your are to be commended for taking time to answer questions.
Avatar m tn I have Thyroid Disorder, Its been detected about a year a go. My Thyroid TSH level was 14.5 when it was detected. Doctor given me a tablet to take everyday in the morning. Slowly the level came down and after a year now the level of TSH has gone down to 0.082, but doctor have suggested me to take the same medicine but of lesser mg ( I started taking 100mg and now doctor advised to take 50mg). I have doubt if I keep taking it the level of TSH will go further low. Isn't that a problem ? ...
Avatar f tn Acetamenophin that's the generic tylenol.
Avatar f tn If I end up going to this specialist and he puts me on a natural thyroid medicine, and I end up moving out of state and going to a new doctor, what do I do about staying on that medicine? I ask because I know not all doctors are open to natural thyroid. Also, if my doctor treats by symptoms and not numbers, how do I get the new doctor to follow that? I wouldn't want to end up in horrible health. Maybe would a letter from the old doctor convince him/her?
Avatar f tn Hi. I am getting ready to start the generic (levo something ..forget the name) of Synthroid and am wondering what to expect...I am only taking a small dosage (1/2 of .25 mcg a day). Does it make you sleepy or give you more energy? Thank you!!!
988694 tn?1332359479 It has been more than two years dealing with thyroid medicine and I have not seen significant changes. I feel I am getting worse. if Cytomel does in fact give me side effects (allergies) I think there is nothing my doctor can do. He has been great. However my body is not cooperating. Thanks for the good wishes though.
Avatar m tn I agree- my endoc said never take generic thyroid medicine.
Avatar n tn t have anything wrong with my thyroid. Can the medicine hurt my thyroid? Will it cause my thyroid to not function properly? What are the consequences of this medicine if you do not have a thyroid condition but was still given the drug?
Avatar f tn I just started the generic Cytomel yesterday so it's too soon to tell a difference, but I talked to a pharmacist and was told that if you're starting on generic you should be fine. People who took the brand name and then switched to generic may have a little problem. From what I've read, the medicine is the same between brand and generic, but the dosing might be slightly different.
1082033 tn?1256190223 Throxine I believe is generic thyroid and the manufactures may change up different fillers on lot numbers. Also the ranges of actual hormones vary more script ot script depending on those lot numbers with generic meds. You metobolism will slow until your thyroid hormones become stable again. Weight gain is common.
Avatar f tn Generics are ok, and they are easy on the pocketbook, but generic thyroid medicine is a bad idea. It is better to take a name brand like Synthroid. There are several name brand T4 drugs, like Synthroid or Levoxyl. All of these name brand T4 meds have levothyroxine as the active ingredient, but the quality control is better.
Avatar f tn Some people taking certain kinds of medicine say they have trouble switching to generic versions. Are they imagining it? No. This problem involves what we call narrow therapeutic index (NTI) drugs, including anti-seizure medications, blood thinners and thyroid hormone replacements. For them to work properly, you have to maintain a specific concentration in the blood. You have to regularly check blood levels to make sure the concentration is right.
Avatar f tn My doctor seemed very surprised by the increase in TSH, and has switched my medicine from generic levothyroxine to Synthroid to see if my body will respond. She also has suggested an ultrasound if my thyroid gland stays swollen. Why wouldn't my body be responding to the medicine? Would you suggest seeing an endocrinologist at this point?
Avatar n tn Methimazole is used to treat a condition known as hyperthyroidism (over-active thyroid). Generic methimazole tablets are available. She IS NOT hyper - she is NOW HYPO> As you can see --- from your labs --- your mother is NOT HYPERTHYROID as this drug she is taking is intended for and it is pulling her into a very undiserable hypothyroid state. I've seen higher numbers but your moms levels could get dangerous.
Avatar f tn High TSH means low thyroid hormone, so what the medicine is doing is supplementing his thyroid hormone so that he can get back into the normal range. Don't be surprised if they eventually have to up his dosage though, that is completely normal as well. Very soon he should have more energy and feel more like himself. If he does have any unpleasant side effects from the medicine, switch him to the brand name of it--Synthroid.
Avatar m tn I was put on thyroid medicine Dec 2014. Shortly after that I started to break out in hives. The doctor then put me on Synthroid stating maybe I was allergic to something in the generic. The itching and hives continues. I stopped all medicine. I had about a month with few rashes, then they came back stronger then ever and has not let off. I currently am on a prescription anti histamine. Was hoping to find a way to get off this medicine.
Avatar n tn I learned this the hard way when I was prescribed my first thyroid medicine. I have to take the generic becasue the namebrand sends into a manic hyper state even at low doses but the generic works beautifully for .me. Call your doc and have him write on the prescription to only fill with wellbutrin. You might want to go back to your original pharmacy so you can it.
Avatar f tn You can try going to a naturopathic or functional medicine doctor. They are usually willing to prescribe desiccated hormones when conventional medicine doctors aren't, though there are conventional doctors that are willing to prescribe desiccated hormones. Instead of wasting time and $$ visiting various doctors, call around to endos, internal medicine doctor and general practice doctors that treat thyroid disorders and ask if they prescribe T3 medications.
Avatar f tn sometimes the thyroid hormone medicine is prescribed to shrink the thyroid nodules, even if the TSH level is normal
5285867 tn?1365993292 I will always stay on my thyroid medicine. Trying to regulate Thyroid is a chore in itself. Hoping your feeling better.
Avatar m tn I am wondering if anyone has taken simvastatin, the generic brand for Zocor. I just started taking this on Friday and twice since then I seem to have had some strange side effects. It has caused an upset stomach and then made me feel very jittery. It was almost as if I had the chills and then both nights had a horrible time sleeping. The only similar item I ate or drank was Diet Cranberry Soda. I am not sure if this would have had an impact. Any insight would be great.
