Avatar n tn My son (3.5) was tested for thyroid disorder and had a TSH score of 12 with T4 score in the normal range. At the time, the only symptom of any thyroid issues was that he was falling off of the growth chart his doctor has. My son is asian and adopted, so it is difficult for me to know if this was a real problem or not.
Avatar f tn When your doctor says he'll "burn" your thyroid, what he means is that he'd recommend RAI (radioactive iodine). You are given a dose of radioactive iodine, and over the course of several months, your thyroid gland is destroyed by the radiation. Once it is destroyed, you will be hypOthyroid and will have to be on replacement hormones for the rest of your life. RAI is seldom, if ever, done on pregnant women.
Avatar n tn She was born without a thyroid. Now they want to test her for growth hormone deficiency because she is growing very slow and tested low on an igf1 test. She is on track in every other way but is just very small and hadnt grown at all between her 9 and 12 month check up.
Avatar f tn The thyroid is a ductless gland located in the lower portion of the neck about an inch or two above the clavical bone and secretes hormones that controls metabolism, libido, and calcium to name only a few. I would suggest getting a thyroid profile done. It is where they check your blood work for the thyroid hormones and the level at which it is secreting them.

1153642 tn?1266253989 I haven't had thyroid surgery yet so I'm not sure exactly how this will work for some but it is worth a try. I have tattoos that are in visible spots but work a corporate job so for work I cover them with dermablend makeup. Its the only thing I've found that blends well but still does a great cover up job. Just thought I'd recommend trying it if some of you are seeking something to cover your scar. http://www.dermablend.
219241 tn?1413537765 It is easy to blame for all my problems, but I do know that as a person I am sweet and funny. Thyroid disease will not rule my life from this day forward, I will be positive and live above the disease. .
465737 tn?1315754922 If I wanted to get my thyroid checked... to see if I have hypo- and therefore affecting my fertility.. should I have my OBGYN do that or my family doctor? Thanks!

Im already high risk. I was deaf until age 4 , same age i started having seizures up until i was 13. (I was also told i wouldnt have kids/ride a bike/drive ect but ive done it all :) !!
Avatar n tn The worst thing that could happen is one of the nodules could be cancer. But really no one dies from thyroid cancer. (serious). And the treatment for thyroid cancer is not at all the big deal like treatment for other types of cancer. No dropping out of life to fight cancer. You wouldn't even be off work for likely more than a day. So you don't need to put your life on hold. My advice. Call place that did the FNA tomorrow and ask if the results are in.
Avatar n tn s physical activities (play, dance, sports) to lose weight, and not lower calorie intake due to the need of calories for growth. For his age he needs approximately 1800-2000 calories a day to grow. Limit time in front of the TV or non-active-video games. There have been studies showing the longer the length of time a child sit in front of the TV, the greater the weight gain. Limit high sugar drinks/snacks, and try replacing with low fat milk/yogurt, fruit, air popped popcorn, or low-fat cheese.
228015 tn?1223693378 God it feels good to see that I am not alone. Sometimes I feel so sorry for my kids. They get that snappy side of me before I even know its coming. I work from home and will often be struggling to stay awake, to get my work done and... well you know teenagers. I snap at them, then I feel like a putz and end up nearly crying. Aggghhhhh. They all deserve medals or something. I so know exactly how you feel.
1129232 tn?1360800358 My aunt 3 kids, my counsin -3 kids, my other cousin -2 kids....they did not even treat the thyroid. They have big thyroid gland...goiter. It neve stopped them. I am planning on having a baby myself. I am 36! If i have an issue, it is because of my age and has nothing to do with this thyroid. So, don't worry too much....try to see if you have other issues...Good luck.
Avatar m tn oh, one more thing, you have lots of time, usually treat my kids for a year or so with medications till we see how they do and make a decision about definitive treatment.
Avatar n tn The thyroid technetium scan is used to establish if thyroid hormone replacement is requirement for life. Occasionally a thyroid ultrasound will also be necessary if the thyroid technetium scan results suggests thyroid agenesis (the thyroid is missing, ectopic, or severely underdeveloped). Optimal care for congenital hypothyroidism includes diagnosis before age 10 - 13 days and normalization of thyroid hormone blood levels by 3 weeks of age.
Avatar f tn I have had Hashimoto's thyroid for 8 years now and have had 2 kids in the past 5 years. It is possible!! I was also told that if your thryoid is not treated correctly when you are pregnant you can have a "slow" child.... I had no problems though and my kids are great and smart!
Avatar f tn Hi Reese120, how are you coping hun? I think most physicians now believe that thyrogen is as effective as going hypo, i know a lot of people who have used it for their first RAI ablation, (and i think it is now licensed for this in the USA) but it does depend on your doc (and whether your insurance will cover it - it's quite expensive) some won't use it for first RAI but will use it for subsequent scanning and Tg testing.
