Avatar f tn And is it a simple blood test to determine a thyroid problem in a cat.A friend gave me a cat(Coby , a big loveable black cat) , because she was moving and didn't tell me he had health issues. I have been using ear mite medicine that I got from pet co and went on line and got herbal wormer. but it seems like it is taking forever it's been a month. And Coby gave earmites to my white cat Appollo.
Avatar f tn I know that this sounds crazy...but I have 4 cats that i have had for many years. My doctor put me on Armour Thyroid about 6 weeks ago. The personality of one of my cats (a totally indoor cat that sleeps with me) totally changed and he became very aggressive and hissing and growling at me. Another cat that is an indoor outdoor cat left for about 8 days and came back and was hissing at me when I tried to pet him. He has never acted this way. He wanted back outside after he ate.
Avatar f tn Our 11 year old female cat has just been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism (level 193). Our vet is getting a gel med we can rub on her ear to stabilize her metabolism, but we understand that for her to live longer she'll need to have her thyroid destroyed by radiation. This treatment if not available where we live and we'd have to travel quite far to have this done. We are wondering whether it is worth putting her through the trip and radiation therapy.
Avatar m tn then I got chicken breast I traveled extensively its a problem for me to be here for my cats ... my cat sitter can only be relied upon so much so I have to make this as easy as possible..
318181 tn?1336443496 Thank you so much for your post. I'm sorry it took me so long to reply...it's just been one of those crazy busy weeks! It's interesting that you brought up thyroid issues, because one of our dogs is actually on thyroid meds (she's hypothyroid). Never really thought of that for the cats, but that's a good point.
Avatar f tn I guess it would depend on the seriousness of the issue with the thyroid. Certainly there are medications. Ask your doctor if they would be as effective and would not have dangerous side effects.
Avatar f tn You will need to maintain separation from your husband and cats for a period of time following the radiation treatment. This may be in a hotel room, another bedroom, etc. There will be a couple/few nights your husband and cats will/should not be able to sleep with you. They may not like it, but it's for their own safety. All the items you use will need to be washed separately and with great care when you've finished with them. You'll even need to double flush the toilet, etc.

You can read what Dr. Michael Fox had to say about it here, and see an abstract describing the original research from the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
Avatar m tn s health? You might want to get some blood work done on him and have his thyroid checked. Thyroid dysfunction can cause behavior changes. I suggest you try and take some steps to make sure "you" are leader of the pack. Look up NILF ( nothing in life is free) training. Be vigilant and nip any potential behavior in the bud like staring, hackles up, etc. with a firm "No" and a loud noise directed at the offender. Do not give treats unless you are there to supervise.
Avatar n tn s been on thyroid med for years, and had a large growth and half his thyroid removed 2 yrs ago; the rattling started 6 months later. Can you help?
Avatar f tn ve read on holistic info sites that BUPRENORPHINE is the best and SAFEST pain med for cats....I know thats the one my Vet uses too. Is this for long term use?
Avatar f tn Have you had your vet check your cat for hypothyroidism? This is not uncommon in cats especially cats like yours that weigh 28 pounds! As a practicing veterinarian for many years I have seen this in a handful of cats with signs similar to yours. Checking your cats thyroid status involves a simple blood test your vet can take and send to the lab. If the test is positive your vet will give you a product to correct this.
675347 tn?1365460645 dry food is a terrible diet for cats..they run into all sorts of problems with this dehydrated food. please read the following for better knowledge on nutrition..you don't need to be feeding a raw diet but cats do need the moisture from wet food b/c they don't drink enough to compensate for the lack of moisture in dry food....any can food is better than dry!! www.catinfo.
Avatar f tn He runs, jumps, and plays with my other cats and chases them all over the house. However, in his old age he has lost ALOT of weight. My veterinarian did some lab on him about a year ago and everything was great. He told me older cats tend to do that and whatever he wants to eat, give it to him. I also give him steroids almost 2 out of 4 weeks in a month for allergies as he sneezes constantly.
740516 tn?1360942486 Typical canned tuna for humans has too much sodium for cats. Lots of cats enjoy treats of cooked chicken and turkey, but I would avoid the processed "lunch meat" variety in quantity because of the salt and other additives. Onions are toxic to cats, but I don't believe there is harm in other vegetables and fruits if your cat likes them.
Avatar f tn Hi, I've had cats for over 30 yrs. I've had 2 cats that were over 10 yrs old that were eating a lot and were skinny and they were hyperthyroid I bet that's what's wrong with your cat. Get the vet to check his thyroid levels.
874521 tn?1424116797 yeah for a DOG she is kinda cute....does affirm my love for cats after a few days tho..lol.
228686 tn?1211554707 t give you anything for it because it is normal in some cats. But it is good for the vet to know as much as possible about their patients, right? And, hopefully, Jade will not experience allergic reaction to Revolution. I do recommend it.
3140169 tn?1342848421 Hello! I recently adopted a big 'ol tabby cat, he's about 3 years old and neutered. I've taken care of cats all my life, and I know how to deal with them. I bought a huge thing of dry kibble as I have done for years with my previous cats. However, recently I've been doing some research regarding proper nutrition for cats and apparently they get most of their moisture from the food they eat.
