Avatar n tn Hello I agree with deadgamegrll. I would not recommend taking him off the medications without consulting the Vet because abruptly stopping any medications can be detrimental to his health. It does sound like he is on too high of a dosage. I'm sure examination and testing by his Vet will give the information needed to get his dosage regulated properly.
Avatar n tn As far as I'm aware, benadry is safe for quite a long time in dogs. The general doggy dosage is 1 mg/ per pound, so that's what your vet has prescribed - most people tend to go too low on the dosage. Using it for only the summer months should be no problem at all. I had a dog who needed it a good 8 months or more of every year and it never caused any trouble. Hope it works well for your Bostie!
Avatar f tn For sure. Cats are at least 10 times smaller than a SMALL adult human female. What is given to us is too much for such a small animal. For example: The amount of Zyrtec I was told to give to Akira is only 1/4 of the adult human dosage. This is much smaller than the children's dosage, which is 1/2 of the adult human dosage. I would never ever give medications to Akira without her first seeing her doctor. I do know that no one should ever give Tylenol to their pets.
Avatar f tn A normal dose for thyroid is 20 mcg per kilogram. Therefore a normal dose for your dog would be 1000mcg twice daily.
612551 tn?1450022175 The label provides advice for dogs as well as general farm animals. It prescribed 1 teaspoon per day for dogs over 10 pounds. Any experience/opinions about this approach to increase Pro Biotics in a dog's diet? It may be tasteless and could be sprinkled along with some water on dry kibble I will guess.
Avatar m tn TSH is a pituitary hormone that is affected by so many things that at best it is only an indicator, to be considered along with more important indicators such as symptoms and also levels of the biologically active thyroid hormones, Free T4 and Free T3. When already taking thyroid meds, TSH is basically a useless test because it frequently becomes suppressed when taking adequate doses of thyroid med.
Avatar f tn She is now on desiccated thyroid (1 1/2 years now) This has t3 in it plus t4 and t2, and t1 and selinium and calcitonan.( resembles human thyroid hormone more except for the amounts) Her t3 is kept at the higher side of normal range instead of at the lower side as it was while on Synthroid. Most if not all of her issues of the past are gone and she feels normal and good. You can get t3 in a synthetic form (Cytomel) which can be added to your t4 regiment.
Avatar n tn FT4 is the actual thyroid hormone. It's a DIRECT measure of your thyroid status. TSH is indirect. Your FT4 was 85% of range. 50% is where most people feel best. So, yours was quite high, indicating a reduction was in order.
Avatar n tn The problem with Hashi's is that your own thyroid often becomes very unpredictable. For a while, it can produce more than usual hormones, and then it switches to the direct opposite. Perhaps (speculation only) your decrease in meds coincided with a decrease in your thyroid function creating a double whammy. Your labs look like you could stay on 112, but I trust your symptoms best. Alternating 112 with 100 is a good compromise. I'd treat my symptoms if I were you.
506043 tn?1222294696 Hi all, I realize everyone is completely different in how they respond thyroid medication, but to all the thyroid cancer patients out there, can you tell me what dosage of what worked for you for maximum cancer suppression without making you feel like total ****? Thanks guys!
Avatar n tn One thing implicated in thyroid problems is radiation to the neck. See an endo...your thyroid problems seem more complicated than many. Try to find one who specializes in thyroid or at least is a "generalist" and isn't only interested in diabetes. Best of luck.
Avatar m tn There is no proven formula for estimating the optimal dosage of Thyroid meds. Each patient may need slightly different levels of Free T3 and Free T4, but the general rule is to get Free T4 to around the middle of its range and Free T3 in the upper part of its range, as needed to relieve symptoms. In addition, each hypo patient may convert T4 med at different rates, dependent on several other factors.
441381 tn?1208595760 thanks for the comment - I was kind of suspecting that there's not much out there :-) Think you're right about the dosage, though, I will have to go get that checked. Take care and happy easter!
Avatar n tn Hi. Pure coconut oil (must be pure, for dogs) is a useful supplement for dogs. It can be given with food or (warmed slightly) rubbed into skin, particularly where there are patches of irritated skin or hair loss areas. A small amount goes a long way, so be cautious with it. Too much can lead to diarrhea. It is not particularly useful for fleas, though it will help with any irritated skin caused by fleas.

Avatar f tn After having two thyroidectomies and radioactive iodine for thyroid cancer (1997), I have been on 75 mcg of cytomel for 13 years. My new doctor wants to lower my dosage significantly because she says my tsh level is too low. I have already changed to 50 mcg daily. I am afraid to go any lower. What should I do?
Avatar f tn I have some ondansetron 8mg for vomiting for me what would be the dosage for a dog that has terrible motion sickness in car
Avatar f tn 2 dogs that live outdoors] afte 1 take the radioactive pill for my thyroid scan? I have read that for at least 24 hours that some o the radiation will be excreted through my urine and sweat.I do not want to expose my family or the children'd beloved pets to radiation. What can I expect the reaction that I will have to the pill? The Nuclear Medicine Department in the small Hospital that I will be seen is is closed on weekends and I can't call them with questions on the weekend.
Avatar f tn Determining a dosage of tramadol for dogs is an exercise in futility. As with people, if the dog has a history of seizures it is important to let your vet know this, and they will likely tell you about alternatives. While the dosage amounts vary from dog to dog, the tramadol dosage for dogs can be put into effect by using the dog’s weight as the determinant. The usual range is .5 - 1.8mg per pound.
Avatar f tn factors above, it can be affected by other factors, like thyroid meds. For example, T3 meds (Cytomel) can suppress TSH to close to zero. Here's how it works: Your hypothalamus, which is located near your brain, is the organ responsible for stasis (keeping things constant in the body), so it regulates things like body temperature and thyroid hormone levels. Your hypothalamus checks your thyroid levels and sends a message to your pituitary if they're too low.
Avatar n tn t like the idea of RAI in my body, and then on top of that you may feel like total **** for months waiting for the thyroid to die. Also - my mother had her thyroid removed due to cancer, so I just feel like I would rather have it removed now b/c it is very likely that I will have to have it removed later in life anyway. My Endo has a great surgeon he sends his patients to that specializes in thyroid surgery, so I feel like I will be in good hands.
Avatar f tn s situation, has the doctor determined the cause for her first TSH level, that was so high? Has the doctor tested for thyroid antibodies? If not, that would also be a good idea, because it can affect her treatment. Also, what symptoms does she have that are typical of hypothyroidism? Getting your daughter to the proper dosage of meds will take a slow and steady approach. I would not want to delay for 3 more months and possibly make her more uncomfortable.
Avatar n tn You are very welcome for any help I can give. Dosage for SR T3 should be the same mcg as what you are taking. SR should be a direct substitute.
