Avatar m tn Elevated liver enzymes, elevated triglycerides, low HDL, elevated uric acid, elevated ESR rate, elevated TSH are labs that can show up with hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism causes many symptoms but includes high blood pressure. The elevated ESR is an inflammatory marker and may be due Hashimoto's thyroiditis (autoimmune thyroid disease). Recommended to test for thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb) and thyroglobulin antibodies (TgAb).
616450 tn?1228433627 Hi Ed, Although I can't answer your question about what foods to avoid or add, I find it interesting that you notice your thyroid hurting after eating dairy. Your thyroid is the only gland in the body that absorbs iodine. Before getting the radioactive iodine treatment, patients are supposed to follow a low iodine diet for a week or two beforehand, so the thyroid is starved for iodine. That way, when they ingest the pill, it will travel to any thyroid tissue in the body.
Avatar m tn HI...I am working with a Dr on MedHelp for an exercise program for us!! As soon as I know it is doable I will let u all in on it... Now as for a diet, I have a few questions...do u know if u have a thyroid issue? were u checked lately for an autoimmune issue? How about Ehlers-Danlos? Do u ever have issues with IBS? Sorry for the questions, but they will help in answering ur question.
Avatar f tn Believe it or not by changing your diet (substituting sugar with artificial sweetners and cutting back carbs alone) and walking will show a difference in your numbers. Some are lucky enough after doing this to actually stop or cut back on some of the medications like insulin. I would talk to your doctor about a diet plan.
Avatar f tn One the antibodies are elevated , they begin to gradualy destroy the thyroid gland tissue. Daily replacement of thyroid hormone is required and will increase in time as the gland gradually looses its ability to produce hormone by itself. Non-autoimmune hypothyroid is just simply called hypothyroid and there are no increased antibodies directly associated with it. Its causes can be many and is not always lifelong, but usually is.
332074 tn?1229560525 1 hour of cardio and 1 hour weights. Yet I have not lost any weight. I have been dianosised with high blood preasure, thyroid problems, insulin resisstance and just did get diagnosised with sleep apnea. My problem is, I have sooo many food allergies that alot of the foods that are good for a diet, I can't eat. Is there anyway I can achieve weightloss with the foods that I can eat? I eat three meals a day because if I try six small meals, do not work with my schedule.

878888 tn?1319634044 She gave me samples of Synthroid 112 mcg as she said thyroid was extremely high and ordered an a1c test as blood sugar has been slightly elevated for last six year (never high enough to be actual diabetes) was told I was insulin resistant when it first started. So nurse calls me back and tells me to keep taking synthroid and doctor strongly recommend I do the low blood sugar diet and lose weight as levels were slightly high.
Avatar n tn Besides optimising thyroid hormone levels so your metabolism speeds up, the low carb high fat diet is something to consider. High-fat ketogenic diet fuels rapid weight loss, say obesity experts... "But Westman says rapid weight loss isn't the only benefit of a ketogenic diet, which has been found effective in treating epilepsy, reverses type 2 diabetes, and preventing heart disease. New research indicates the low-carb, high-fat ketogenic diet fights depression and bipolar disorder.
Avatar n tn Go to page top, click on Forums. There are Thyroid forums on each side of the page. Dr Lupo moderates on "Ask A Doctor". Post there and provide more information if you expect him to answer.
Avatar f tn I've been on methadone for 3 years and decided to try and lose a little weight. Only want to lose like 25 lbs. Started taking phentermine a week ago. Docter tested my thyoid level it was low so now I'm taking levothyroxine. First couple days were fine but when I added the thyroid medicine I started getting headaches and just not feeling right. Should I continue all three medicines? I really want to lose the weight! What should I do?
Avatar n tn Most people who are treated with Levothyroxine medication (thyroid hormone) and start an LCHF diet still need to take their medication. Some may indeed need to reduce their dose considerably, but others may even have to increase it. And many stay on approximately the same dose. But there are always exceptions. In Julia’s case, it’s possible that the substantial weight loss contributed to a reduction in the amount of hormone needed. Perhaps the body’s own production is enough.
2081448 tn?1332175961 t get Hormone from diet. It is either your own natural thyroid gland or medication. As far as we know there is no plant or herb or something that will give you hormone if you are deficient. New discovery's are being made every day. But I would be very wary about anyone that claims that they have a wonder herb that will solve deficient thyroid. If you get more testing you may want to consider in addition to the Free T4 and Free T3 and Hashi' antibidies.
7729616 tn?1393795492 Excuse me, are you saying you have Hashimoto's? Because as far as I know if you do your thyroid is toast. You should be on synthetic thyroid. This is based on you saying you have an autoimmune disorder causing your thyroid to not work, and again, that generally means Hashimoto's and again, I know of no natural treatment for Hashimoto's because it kills the thyroid off. So do you have this, or just a low thyroid? Because there's no diet for Hashimoto's I know of.
Avatar f tn I also do not believe that you can control your thyroid levels with just diet. If your thyroid no longer produces hormones, you are going to have to replace the hormones with med, because you can't get them from ANY food. I'd like to recommend that you go check out the thyroid forum here on MedHelp -- there's a ton of great information and a lot of very knowledgeable people. Good luck...............
Avatar f tn Anyway, I recently decided to begin an elimination diet to rid my diet of allergens (gluten, soy, dairy, sugar, caffeine, unfiltered water etc. ) in hope that i can find a possible solution to this headache. ;) I am wondering if anyone else has found relief through this method? I eat mostly vegetarian, occasionally eating fish, but i consume a lot of soy and dairy products. I'm fairly active and would love to find a solution through diet and exercise.
Avatar m tn So even if their approach worked, it then becomes a matter of how much damage was already done to the thyroid gland and how much thyroid med is thus required.
Business woman2 re on a large enough dosage of thyroid replacement hormones to increase your actual thyroid hormones to normal levels. The hormones you need to have tested are Free T3 and Free T4.
Avatar f tn I was ONLY saying that I have read in books how a gluten free diet can help reduce the amount of thyroid medication. I never said I believe or practice this. I also don't believe everything the book says. I read books and do my own research and talk to people with similar issues only to form my own opinion on the situation..
