Avatar n tn A thyroglobulin antibodies (TgAb) test is used to check blood levels of antibodies the body has made against the compound thyroglobulin. Thyroglobulin is a protein produced and used by the thyroid gland (the small, butterfly-shaped gland in the neck) to make the hormones triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4), both of which help control metabolism and growth. Antibodies are proteins made by the immune system to fight bacteria, viruses, and toxins.
Avatar n tn If antibodies are thyroid antibodies likeTPO you have probably Hashimoto thyroiditis, an autoimmune disease, it means that you have antibodies in your body against your own thyroid . You much check again your TSH, free T4 and free T3 to see if you nead adjustments to your medication.
Avatar f tn I am just new to this thyroid thing. My question is with the antibodies. From what I have read it is my understanding that the antibodies won't go away by taking medication. They may go up and down but not go away. It is also my understanding that as the disease progresses that it will get worse until the antibodies have destroyed the thyroid. At which time the medication will help to level things out (if you're lucky). Right now I am still feeling tired.
Avatar f tn Have had lots of tests, seen many doctors and the only thing that is ever found are high counts of thyroid antibodies. All other thyroid counts are normal. GYN has ruled out perimenopause as he has tested my hormones every three months. Saw three neurologists, had brain MRI w/contrast, EMG - no findings. Have seen three endocrinologists all say I have Hashimotos but anxiety/perimenopause is causing my symptoms not Hashimotos.
Avatar n tn My appoinment with him is not until almost two months away, What are the questions I should ask upon seeing him again? What exactly is thyroid antibodies? Does it matter that all the women in my family have thyroid disease? Should I be concerned if this doctor says not to worry?
Avatar f tn off. You can have antibodies for years before enough thyroid funtion is destroyed to make you hypo, or it can happen quite quickly. (I think that was your last question???
Avatar f tn I posted this question in the expert forum also but I would like other input also. I was told that my thyroid antibodies was high at 1000 but I don't know what is normal. Can anybody give me a baseline?
Avatar n tn I have found out that I have elevated levels of thyroid antibodies. I have had most all the symptoms of hypothyroidism (weight gain, depression, insomnia, anxiety, hair loss, dream of taking a nap when I just woke up, low body temp, forgetfull) but my regular thyroid panel comes back in the normal range. I have gained 14 pounds in the last 5 months and I have started eating better then ever (never really was a poor eater) and I work out at least 5 times a week for no less than an hour.
Avatar n tn you are absolutely right. I saw another Dr. today, and she told me that my elevated antithyroglobulin antibodies are very small compared to titers that are in the thousands. They would prefer to put on tiny amount of thyroxine - simply because they would rather eliminate any potential that this might be a cause of miscarriage, although they are almost certain at these levels it isn't.
Avatar f tn Well, with your TSH being done "with reflex to FT4", I'm sure you won't get any free results. When they do it that way, that means to run TSH and if it's out of range, run the FT4; however, yours was not out of range, so most likely the FT4 was not run and if they didn't run FT4, they surely wouldn't have run FT3. You might want to check on that. According to your antibodies, you certainly have Hashimoto's.
Avatar f tn About a year ago, I have been tested for thyroid antibodies and am negative. Does this change quickly? I am assuming if I have new symptoms I should get retested. Any advice would be helpful!
Avatar n tn Graves Disease is caused when certain antibodies cause the thyroid to over produce thyroid hormones which causes hyperactive thyroid. Hashimotos Disease is caused by different antibodies that causes an underactive or hypoactive thyroid. Antibodies testing tests for the presence of these antibodies. There are specific names for each, but I cannot remember which antibodies cause which condition. Hope that helps at least a little bit.
798555 tn?1292787551 It actually makes sense that if you have Hoshis auto immune, the thyroid will continually be under attack as long as any thyroid tissue is still there, thus antibodies will exist.
Avatar f tn My question is there anything else that could cause raised antibodies other than thyroid...also I Believe there has got to be something I can do to lower these...docs say no...says autoimmune....is there anyone who begs to differ? Thanks!
Avatar f tn All my blood work came back fine (including thyroid) with the exception of antibodies. They are suppose to be 100 or under, mine is 1673! The Dr. said that he thinks I may have had Mono and am on the mend from it. I also have a excessive amount of blood in my urine in which he has sent me to a urologist. Everything I have read on the internet about high antibodies says that it relates to the thyroid not working right....but as I said, my thyroid count came back fine.
Avatar f tn that you are hypothyroid from your t3 range.....are you on thyroid meds? Need more info please.
3093770 tn?1389739126 And this are from a previous test, I think they look pretty normal Thyroid values: T4: 14.0 pmol/L ( 10.0 - 20.0 ) TSH: 1.4 mIU/L ( 0.30 - 4.00 ) Free T3: 4.9 pmol/L ( 3.0 - 6.

Avatar n tn I had a test done on my thyroid and my antibodies are in the 700's. My mom and 1 brother both have hypothyroidism and are being treated. My awaking body temp is constant at 96 or below all day. I have many other symptoms. My t3 and t4 test was in normal range. Should I be concerned that I am not getting any treatment to help me?
