Avatar f tn Elevated TSH with normal labs is called subclinical hypothyroidism. There may or may not be any hypothyroid symptoms with this lab result. Exercising, eating better and correcting any deficiency states might see the TSH come down. I'd say retest in say 6 months. I have read you may become sensitive to foods you eat it often but if you stop eating those foods for some time you might be able to tolerate them again.
Avatar n tn Additionally there seem to be interactions between these four minerals and copper and zinc, which are two metallic minerals with critical thyroid functions. It seems that a copper deficiency interferes with the proper functioning of both potassium and magnesium, and zinc seems more related to sodium and calcium metabolism. Also all of these minerals seem involved in either the production, degradation, or cellular response to thyroid hormone.
Avatar f tn ve had insulin resistance for decades which is why I was low in magnesium and zinc for decades. My symptoms of zinc deficiency included poor sense of taste and smell, poor appetite, very fussy eater, night blindness, white spots on nails. I also healed very slowly but that was notably due to vitamin B12 malabsorption although low zinc wasn't helping matters. Since correcting my zinc deficiency I can now eat cooked carrots that are burnt on the edges - fussy much?
Avatar n tn I am not sure about the tumor connection. White spots under the nails may be a zinc deficiency -- a multivitamin may help that.
Avatar m tn It plays an important role in immune function, wound healing, blood clotting, reproduction, growth and smell - many of the same functions as the thyroid gland. Zinc deficiency is characterized by poor wound healing, loss of appetite, weight loss and white marks on the fingernails.
Avatar f tn [14] Zinc appears to be involved in thyroid conversion and a deficiency correlates with reverse T3 production . [10,11,14,15] But zinc should not be supplemented without the guidance of a nutritionist or physician, because a balance needs to be maintained between zinc and copper. People in the autistic spectrum tend to be low in zinc and high in copper. But if one is not autistic, supplementing zinc without copper can create a copper deficiency, and create unintended side effects.
Avatar f tn protein status, thyroid hormone, zinc and vitamin C. Omega 3 deficiency is also a listed cause of keratosis pilaris. The vitamins and minerals most often responsible for hair loss are vitamin A, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin C, vitamin E, copper, iron, zinc, folic acid, and biotin. Try out the myxedema skin pinch test (demo video online) as this symptom is unique to hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism is one of the many causes of hair loss.
Avatar f tn I should add I had bad night vision due to zinc and vitamin A deficiency. My hair has broken off as well although I have had so many deficiency states and other medical conditions I really can't point to what exactly the reason was but I did find this online: "Brittle or dry hair: Is likely to be a lack of iron, zinc and/or vitamin C." Also, I remember writing another comment about zinc deficiency.
Avatar f tn - Can zinc deficiency cause plaques in the brain and cerebellum? After googling, it seems that zinc deficiency affects the brain and plays a major role in motor control. Do you have any information on zinc and its impact on MS? - Why are all these doctors taking their sweet time to diagnose her and give her appropriate treatment? Isn't it urgent to start a treatment as early as possible? She seems to be doing fine now.
Avatar f tn Apart from this a feeling of weakness, depression, lethargy, unexplained bone pains etc are common symptoms. Vit D deficiency also results in iron and zinc deficiency causing anemia, fatigue, listlessness etc. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar f tn Adequate selenium is necessary for normal functioning of the immune system and thyroid gland. Selenium deficiency has been associated with thyroid disease and a variety of cancers. Chromium - which is involved in glucose metabolism and insulin production, works with selenium. Vitamin E - works with selenium, and has other thyroid functions. Zinc - is associated with serum Free T3 and FT3/FT4 ratio.
Avatar m tn I increased my B12 dosage (was using my B12 very sparingly for a week as I had almost run out) and my B12 deficiency symptoms vanished and my cellular hypothyroid symptoms improved. My cellular hypothyroid symptoms disappear when I'm very hyperthyroid. Correcting my vitamin D deficiency had no notable affect with thyroid symptoms.
Avatar n tn Iodine deficiency is less common, but it will affect thyroid function and hormone production drastically. Checking for deficiencies would be money well spent.
393685 tn?1425812522 Happy Friday Just thought I would share this article/newsletter with you on zinc abnormalities/depletion /floride consumption and thyroid disease Its very interesting to see the effects of our hard mineral needs and how they play a huge role in our thyroid conditions. Zinc mostly works with our liver and is very helpful with conversion hormones as T4 thyroid hormone converts to T3.
Avatar f tn To add, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) guidelines for TSH is 0.3 - 3.0 mU/L. The most common cause of hypothyroidism is Hashimoto's thyroiditis so testing for thyroid antibodies - thyroid peroxidase (TPOAb) and thyroglobulin antibodies (TgAb) may reveal this autoimmune disease as well as estrogen dominance.
Avatar m tn Copper supplements are incredibly cheap, but you want to be sure you have the deficiency. Copper and Zinc are in balance, so be careful you don't deplete your zinc. Using bracelets won't work. Again, supplementation is very cheap with this one, and you only need a very small amount. Or you can research foods that are rich in copper and do it that way.
506570 tn?1215836300 I have tried researching skin conditions in Malamutes and found a lot of information on zinc-responsive dermatosis in Alaskan Malamutes. I would love to know if anyone else is giving their dog zinc supplements and how you went about finding out that your dog has zinc-responsive dermatosis. I have spoken to my vet about this and they didn't seem to know a lot about it. Also, the dandruff flakes are on his sides and body in general.

Avatar m tn TCA agents are predominantly serotonin and/or norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors. Serotonin deficiency causes numerous symptoms but includes chronic pain (eg: headaches, backaches, fibromyalgia).
