A few antibiotics are quite horrible on the liver and, if it was already stressed from something else, it may have become inflamed and swollen (hepatitis) or may have briefly started to fail. Have you been checked for chronic Hepatitis C? It can be symptomless yet create all kinds of problems like thyroid problems, hypoglycemia, diabetes, and kidney problems. It can also affect memory and energy levels, as well as GI problems.
Avatar f tn So there can be no correlation between whatever level of liver fibrosis you had and absorption of these vitamins and minerals. (vitamin B and potassium are water soluble, so they are processed by the kidneys not the liver). If your liver was unable to function properly liver blood tests would not be within norms. You would have to have stage 4 liver disease before a damaged liver couldn't process vitamin A or have problems with an electrolyte such as potassium.

Avatar n tn Try to keep your portions to 3 or 4 ounces only, never more than the size of the palm only of your hand and not too thick either. This will give your blood and liver a break and save you from kidney or pancreatic probs. If you could wean yourself from the meat and get down to say 2 or 3 times a week..that would probably be better at least until you reverse and get some of the fat out of your liver. Try mushroom burgers for instance, lots of stir-frys, salads etc.

Make sure your thyroid levels are optimal, though, because if they aren't, you could have an ongoing issue with cholesterol. Everyone reacts differently to medications, maybe you need to try a different one? I keep my cholesterol pretty much in check via exercise. That's walking for a minimum of an hour/day, plus other physical activity.

Avatar f tn All of the meds you are on are very common meds for treatment really. Most likely the ribavirin is what is keeping you up at night - unfortunately it's one of the problems we have. While we should always try to take the minimum of meds because of our liver damage - you have to remember we live in a real world and we gotta do what we gotta do.
Avatar n tn Sonogram is a ultrasound. but I thought sonogram is used for baby image, are you preg ? well, You really don't need to worry if just 1 point. recheck in 3 months, if it goes up, you may want to do a full liver blood panel which will give you much more details about your liver. Your left side, don't know , may be from your sonogram, hope it goes away in a couple of days.

Avatar f tn So, my doctor just got the results of my blood tests, and apparently I have underactive thyroid, and three times the normal liver enzymes. I couldn't ask him a lot of questions and it will take a few days before I can go and see him, but I have a lot of questions that just won't stop bugging me. For instance, one of the symptoms that bothers me the most is that I keep having hot flashes a lot. But shouldn't it be the opposite with hypothyroidism?

Each is important since deficiencies can cause symptoms that mimic hypothyroidism . Also, adequate levels are necessary to metabolize thyroid hormone adequately. Were you able to get those tested?
Avatar n tn You should speak with your doctor about your thyroid ultrasound results and ask whether the findings require further evaluation by a test such as an FNA. And from another source - "A hyperechoic lesion in the liver can be various things including benign masses such as hemangiomas, focal nodular hyperplasia, and focal fatty infiltration. However they can be metastatic cancer or hepatocellular carcinoma. You need to get a 3 phase contrast CT of the liver first.

She also has recently found extra tissue on the liver and after 12 years of Entecavir , I am starting to worry about this medication and its long term effects. 744962 tn?1270942038 I am Hypethyroid but due to over medication was Hyper for about a year during this time was on Thyroxin 100mcg and Armour Thyroid 125mcg. Medication was adjusted to 50 Thyroxin and 40 Armour after a liver reading. Recently been put onto 50mcg Thyroxin and 20mcg of Cytomel. My energy levels are much better but still find from time to time that I have a sore throat and notice that my eyes feels dry, gritty and itchy - my righ eye is red on the lower eyelid.
