Avatar n tn May need to see a endocrinologist to have your thyroid checked. Symptoms of an under-active thyroid include unexplained weight gain, fatigue, slow heartbeat, constipation, dry skin and a low tolerance for cold. The stress of trying to keep up with hormone needs can cause your gland to swell and create a bump in your lower neck.
1426120 tn?1283039272 Certain medications like antidepressants cause weight gain. Polycystic ovary too causes weight gain, hence has to be ruled out by an ultrasound of abdomen. If the above causes are eliminated then you can join a weight trainer and a nutrition expert and follow their advice and lose weight under their guidance. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar n tn He told me that it will be easier for me to loose weight. Problem is that I am gaining weight, I cut my carbs and calories intake and walking for 1 hour 3 times a week, but still gaining weight. Does that mean metformin is not working for me ?
Avatar f tn I lost a little over 20 pounds up until I was about 23 weeks pregnant I have now gained that weight back and weigh what I weighed when I got pregnant. I never had a thyroid problem but from what I was told it normal my Dr wasn't ever worried about it he said it was just part of pregnancies. But I was like you beyond worried about it thinking something was extremely wrong with me. But just wait and see if you start to gain weight back.
393685 tn?1425812522 Hi all. For me I just want to feel right and be healthy again and not be in constant pain. I have to agree with Diana3353 though. It's frustrating when the doctors want you to loose weight when you live with none stop pains. For my younger years I was VERY thin and I'm 5'.5". Eyes sunk in and the whole 9 yards. I used to force myself to drink weight gain when I weighed 87#'s to stay out of the hospital.
Avatar f tn "Yes you are right that after 40 years women starts feeling less active, they don’t have much energy to work actively. So they spent (sic) most of the time in eating and sleeping." Your profile says you are male, and this may be your experience with women and weight gain, but it's unreasonable to assume that the majority of women over 40 spend all their time eating and sleeping, just because they turned 40.
Avatar m tn I am borderline, TSH between 3-5 and I have tried generic synthroid, (gave me severe joint pain all over my body) armour (elevated blood pressure) and then brand synthroid (joint pain in fingers only, increase in ADD symptoms) and even though the brand synthroid 25mcg improved my energy for awhile, that effect is decreasing and I have gained weight in my stomach area which I noticed within 3 weeks of taking it.
Avatar n tn Is there any help for weight loss women that has a hysterectomy i exercise and eat right taken all kind of diet pills.
Avatar f tn Higher doses of estrogen in birth control pills is known to cause weight gain in women due to fluid retention. Get your estrogen levels checked. For weight loss, apart from diet control, indulge in physical exercise daily for which you can even join a gym. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
Avatar n tn There are medical issues that can cause you to gain/be unable to lose weight -- these include hypothyroidism and insulin resistance, among others. I'd suggest that you get your thyroid tested, as well as your blood sugars...... just so you know, I have both of these issues, so recognize the signs.........
Avatar n tn you may get heart palpitations, but it might not lead to weight loss) I do not think you need to be concerned about thyroid treatment causing you to gain more weight... in fact I would venture to imagine that stabilizing your thyroid one way or another will help you. When the thyroid is involved often the balance of other hormones are also involved as well!
Avatar n tn It would not be normal to gain weight when starting thyroid treatment though. Usually people gain weight when they have low thyroid and then lose weight when treatment is started. Have you been evaluated for other conditions?
703031 tn?1398963307 I weighted 50kg, had a small thyroid and no PCOS. I constantly put on weight, about two or three kgs in a year. The doc related it to the antibodies destroying my thyroid and causing hypothyrosis which slowed my metabolism down and raised hormone dose every half year. Five years ago, the ob/gyn suggested the depo shot for birth control due to health problems caused by estrogen in the pill. I was on L-Thyroxin 125µ, weighted 60kg and had not PCOS.
1756321 tn?1547095325 Most of this would occur at the beginning and the gain would slow as the BMR goes up. In addition, as a person gains weight, it is harder to move around and be active, which further aggravates the problem. I know this is a simplistic approach to estimating the effect, but I think that this example and our experience clearly shows that the doctor's estimate of 5 -10 pounds is misinformed.
Avatar n tn Another possibility is diabetes. In women certain hormonal changes result in water retention, a feeling of bloated-ness and weight gain. In premenopause women the fluctuating oestrogen level is often the culprit. Insulin resistance and adrenal gland dysfunction too can cause weight gain. Apart from a physician you should consult your gynecologist too. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar n tn Hi there, The Mirena intrauterine device has been linked responsible for hypothyroidism, or a sluggish thyroid, that can lead to fatigue and weight gain by few women. Hypothyroidism is not listed as a side effect associated with Mirena and hormonal birth control methods typically do not affect the thyroid. It is best to consult a doctor and discuss your concerns. I sincerely hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar n tn Because there are MANY other reasons to gain weight...and gaining weight makes your boobs bigger and causes stretch marks. You could be stressed, have a thyroid problem, etc. I would take a test to find out if you are pregnant. And you can't find out how far you are by how much weight you gain. Some women gain 10 lbs the first month and others only gain 15 the entire pregnancy.
Avatar n tn I would make sure you have had a pelvic exam, my mother in law had unexplained weight gain and around her mid section and later was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and that IS one of the subtle symptoms. You have said you had thyroid testing so that doesn't seem to be out of sync (if it is adjusting that can be a game changer), and all of those things have been examined and ruled out, then I believe you can only control what you can control. be your best self, do your best.
Avatar f tn I have Hodgkins for 36 years, collapsed lungs twice, total hysterectomy and thyroid taken out due to cancer three years ago, I KEEP GAINING WEIGHT!
Avatar f tn You have to have adequate thyroid hormone levels, from your thyroid gland and/or from thyroid med. Although weight gain can be related to a number of things, certainly one is low metabolism due to low thyroid levels. If you will post your thyroid related test results and reference ranges shown on your lab report, we can try to assess the adequacy of your testing and treatment. Also, what thyroid med are you taking and what dosage? What symptoms do you have other than weight gain?
Avatar f tn 7 and In June I weight 135 and now I am 150.... My question is can the uptake upset the thyroid to the point of such aggressive weight gain? I have even upped my workouts to try and counter act since I am so miserable. I read a lot of posts of specific free t3 and 4 levels and uptake results, but I have not received my exact numbers, so sorry I can't post (I will try to call and get them if it will help suggestions and input).
Avatar n tn No supplement is likely to help. Weight is a balance of calories in // calories out ---- this is true for thyroid and non-thyroid patients. Keeping the TSH in target range (ask your doctor about your target as it may be different based on the thyroid cancer history).
Avatar f tn I struggle with my weight as it is and i have heard that with a total thyroidectomy and going on synthroid weight gain is an almost certainty. Can anyone shed light on this..I am considering a partial and if its cancer having it done again. Good or bad decision?
Avatar f tn Yes we get T4 medication here, as well. That's the main med that is prescribed for hypothyroidism. I wasn't aware that you weren't in the U.S. Sometimes doctors won't order adequate thyroid testing and we have to take things into our own hands, or if someone doesn't have insurance, it's less expensive to go through these websites than it is to through a doctor and lab... we can't get labs without a doctor's order.
Avatar f tn The best way is to post that you are looking for a good thyroid doctor in the Phoenix area and this will get more attention and hopefully some member will have personal knowledge of a doctor to recommend for you. Lacking any response to that, there are other possibilities we can explore. I know it is very frustrating for you, but please explore all this first. Lap band last.
