487969 tn?1249313291 Get off table salt totally and use unrefined sea salt. To support the adrenals take unrefined sea salt and filtered water once in the am and pm drink it up - sounds gross but the benefits outway. It reduces swelling ( as you have with your thyroidtis) and supports adrenal repair. Move forward on the tests above.
4764932 tn?1359844198 Since iv been on armour I have a constant salty taste in my mouth , when I lick my lips I taste salt. Its not my imajination , I got someone to lick my lip and they agreed to the saltyness. I carnt see this going and was wondering if there's something to combat it , is it real salt , and isn't too much salt bad for me. If its not the armour what is it.
Avatar n tn I have been on thyroid meds for 10 years I heard that taking iodine would fix my thyroid so I got some thyodine and took it a few days and after a few days my skin was on fire and itchy and really bad heart palpitations I did stop the iodine about a month ago but when i take my meds my skin starts itching again and my face feels burnt is this iodine still in my system??
Avatar n tn I am sure I was in the hyper zone in the first place and the iodine salt was just enough to push me over into hyper-over-drive. Needless to say, I didn't nor have I since, used iodine salt. No problems with the lips since. But I am ready to try again with vegetable sea salt, if I can still fine it. So maybe your TSH is too hyper for you, especially when your level was normal in the first place. Just a thought from a thyroid patient.
Avatar n tn Hi everyone Upon learning that I have adrenal fatigue my doc showed me that I have no salt and he suggested that I drink warm water and sea salt daily. My problem is that this seems to be making my eyes really puffy, which is something I do not want! Does this mean I am taking too much salt or not enough?
Avatar n tn Yes I understand what you are saying. I too have had nodules form and heard the anti iodine speeches too. After researching - which sounds like - most of what you are reading - I went on postassium iodide/ iodine. I started doing the iodine therapy on my own but now the doctor I chose recently - is in support of what I was doing and I follow it with her. I have seen a shrinkage in my nodule. I am going back very soon to have another US scan to see if it's smaller.

Avatar f tn I am confused about the link between Iodine and this condition. We drink tap water containing floride and she drinks alot of water, I made her baby food homemade and have always restricted salts. Do these factor into her condition? How would a doctor know if it is an iodine difficiency?...and if that is the case, would the dificiancy cause permament damage to the thyroid or is it reversable? If anyone has insight I would greatly appriciate it...Thankyou.
1504101 tn?1299155264 You still need some iodine for the hormone conversion but obviously too much is the same as when you have a thyroid and can be detrimental. So if you are eating iodised bread and other foods with it in you won't need to add any extra in salt, so keep to the non-iodised for now.
665587 tn?1265946924 s purely to deprive the body of iodine so that any remaining Thyroid tissue (and thereby Thyroid Cancer cells) will absorb it and be destroyed. I have been without a Thyroid since April and haven't had any trouble at all with weight. I'm on 150 of Synthroid eight times a week...
393685 tn?1425812522 If you have ever driven out by the Great Salt Lake, you will find the Morton Salt plant, the salt is in huge piles and is harvested there...the Great Salt Lake used to be an inland ocean, as did the Bonneville salt flats and Death Valley. Some does come from ocean water, but much of that goes into commercial uses, like water softening.
Avatar f tn Sea salt is not any different than regular iodized salt except that you can get it coarse ground, and it is more expensive. If you truly have no thyroid, then iodine shouldn't make any difference one way or the other. The only use your body has for iodine is to feed your thyroid. I've been told that once your thyroid is ablated, you should try to avoid large quantities of iodine, but a little won't hurt you. I was trying to find out if shellfish was off my diet forever.
213044 tn?1236527460 I quickly became hyper along with too much medication and had to quit everything. I am now hypo again, and I would not suggest taking it as a supplement if your are on thyroid replacement.
Avatar m tn Fresh fruit and vegetables and limit meat especially red meat. Because you have an enlarged heart you have to be very strict with your diet. No processed foods, no lunch meat, no smoked meat, no hotdogs, no canned foods (full of salt). No eating out in restaurants especially fast food restaurants (full of salt and fat). Eat bread and potato without butter or margarine. If you eat organic vegetables, they taste a lot better and feel a lot better on the stomach and digestion.
Avatar f tn Sadly lithium being what it is (a salt) can be bad for people with thyroid issues and you need to work with your doc to find another MS - good luck and dont forget we are here if you need someone to lean on.
Avatar f tn Based on my blood test result my doctor made a derision regarding my thyroid gland, and Levoxyl 0,05 mg was prescribed, My questions: 1. Which blood test parameters are telling that I have to start/stop taking Levoxyl? 2. Can I replace Levoxyl with natural products (some diet, using the iodized salt, etc.) ? Many thanks!
Avatar f tn I had papillary cancer at 14 had my entire thyroid removed and had high dose radiation right after and RAI the following year. Then thyrogen shots and blood work the next year. And then the yearly routine ultrasound until now.
Avatar f tn A chronic lack of iodine means that less thyroid hormone can be produced and this causes the thyroid to enlarge. Since salt manufacturers now add iodine to salt, this form of hypothyroidism is extremely rare in North America. However, it is still the major cause of hypothyroidism in underdeveloped countries, where iodine is often lacking in the diet.
Avatar f tn how important is iodine to thyroid and should it be checked by doctors whrn checking thyroid
Avatar n tn Also, if you would take magnesium (at night) 4-6 hours away from your thyroid meds that also helps with swelling. I would also recommend using sea salt for your salt. That has been proven to help with swelling and its much healthier for you. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions. Oh, one more thing. Are you taking synthoid or armour.
Avatar f tn Enlarged thyroid lobes bilaterally right greater than left increasing in size from the prior study. Dominant nodule in the midpole of the left thyroid lobe. Consider follow-up ultrasound-guided thyroid biopsy of this nodule." If it takes a long time to see your Endo maybe your doc can order these: *FREE T3 *FREE T4 *THYROID ANTIBODIES Another thing to consider is "Iodine Blockage". This can happen due to medicine or medical condition. As well as the types of foods eaten.
1249939 tn?1313316943 For example, I need to take calcium and thyroid meds - but cannot take them together, so I take thyroid in the morning, calcium at night (and make sure it is a formulation I can take without food). It took a bit of work with the pharmacist and the doctor to do this but do it.
388376 tn?1302011418 Well I am on the pill for severe endo and I crave salt and sugar like crazy and I binge eat mostly at night. I have gain so much weight lately because of this and I really do believe it has something to do with hormones. Maybe have your thyroid checked? Maybe its adrenal fatigue?
Avatar m tn You might be eating too much salt. Salt causes water retention and can make your hand, feet and face swell. I don't know what snacks you eat, but try not to eat potato chips, corn chips, sunflower seeds, etc. as they all contain a lot of salt. I know I would hate to give up my salty snacks - but I try not to eat too many as my hands and face swell if I eat too much salt. Have your doctor check your kidneys.
1333621 tn?1280720842 There is evidence that isoflavones found in soy products can be potentially harmful and pose a danger to the thyroid. I would be careful about using too much soy. Daily over consumption of soy may contribute to the worsening of your thyroid problem. Excess inorganic iodine may also contribute to thyroid imbalances. Maybe try to use sea salt instead of iodized salt. Apart from that im pretty sure you can eat anything and everything in moderation.
1098245 tn?1292545210 was it TOO MUCH salt? or NOT ENOUGH salt? I have never added salt to my food at a table, I too cook with salt on the stove sometimes, and my 20-30's were half the times eaten in out for meals. Im 55 now... Thank you for any reply..
Avatar f tn ve found to control it is stopping eating all salt. Now my PH is out of wack and my adrenals are crazy because of no salt. Seen 8 doctors, no clues. Oh you wise people: any ideas? Thanx! This discussion is related to questions about salt.
