Avatar m tn I've had memory loss due to vitamin B12 malabsorption, hypothyroidism, and severe stress. Alzheimer's is also called Diabetes Type 3. A book you might want to read is called Brain Grain by David Perlmutter M.D.
Avatar m tn Natural thyroid hormone production can decrease when you start thyroid replacement so you can experience worsening of symptoms to start with while the thyroid medication builds up in the blood. This usually takes between 4 to 6 weeks.
Avatar n tn I have had a underactive thyroid for about 35 years . My memory loss sometimes overwhelms me . In my personal life and work atmosphere I can deal with it . I'm in Martial arts and I teach classes there . There is where I have a problem , I can't remember something I want to say . I can't remember a technique to show my students I get embarrassed. Its a different environment for me to be head of the class in a deciplined ,focused atmosphere . Constantly can't remember .
Avatar f tn Your TPO ab and TG ab results show that Hashi's is the cause for you being hypothyroid. With Hashi's the antibodies attack your thyroid gland until over an extended period the gland is destroyed. As this progresses, the output of natural thyroid hormone is diminished, so Free T4 and Free T3 levels drop, and the pituitary produces more TSH in an effort to stimulate the thyroid gland to produce more.
Avatar m tn My mother had her thyroid and a benign tumour removed about 6 months ago. She lives 3 hours away from me, so I have seen her a few times but only for short intervals and we regularly speak on the phone. Since her operation I have noticed she is always tired (also due to her heart medication) and that she has become more of a glass half empty type of person. Recently my father had a heart attack (serious but my Dad is a trooper and is now recovering after surgery).
446356 tn?1205202631 Do you know that lithium can be toxic and kill you? It also damages the thyroid. One of the women on here had thyroid cancer b/c of the lithium and the thyroid problems going undiagnosed. This is nothing to mess around with. Any time anyone is on lithium they should have regular blood draws to check their levels. And if you're "playing" with the pills no dr is going to know to do this. If all she has from it is memory loss she's very lucky.
Avatar n tn My wife has thyroid problems, and refuses to take medication. Her memory continues to decrease. For example, she will misplace her keys, and /ordebit card. The first thing she does is accuse me of taking them. One of our kids will come home, and find the keys still in the door. The kids will find her card in her purse where she has jammed it way down in the purse. She forgets each episode.
Avatar f tn I can say something to him and 5 minutes later he will forget what I said. His Dr said it was because his thyroid levels were not right and gave him a higher dose. However when they did his blood work they said his levels were normal. Since my husband has been on this higher does he has not gotten better. In fact he's gotten worse. He was almost involved in a car wreck the other day because he cannot focus. We are waiting for monday to hear from his dr.
Avatar f tn But this forgetfulness is too much stressful for me and affecting my work and peace of mind. Even my parents are complaining and blaming me all the time for this. Could this be depression? I have a very demanding and insecure job in NGO sector, which involves on an average 15 days travel per month in different countries. I have a difficult life, with broken marriage and parents with extreme fragile health. I try my best to take care of them and I live with them.
Avatar m tn She does have some memory, like she knows who me and my sister are and what she does for work. Another symptom is that she says her body is soar, like she lifted a bunch of weights. We are looking for any type of input/advise. Her doctors have been doing every test and scan. However, they are not coming up with any answers. Please help us, we don't know what else to do. She cannot be left alone because she starts to freak out not know what she is suppose to be doing.
Avatar m tn We all are a bit different and have varying degrees of memory loss. And as holmes pointed out a disturbance in normal thyroid function can also cause memory issues. There are many factors that can play into memory problems. Mine comes more in the form of I can't remember names, ppl names or names of products, things like that. Trying to remember who sang a song I knew by heart some 15 years ago will set me nuts until I remember it.
198727 tn?1352054382 I am a white, 38 year old, 106 lb female. I was diagnosed by GP in September of 2001 with Hypothyroidism. My level then was what they called a 4.27. I was put on 25mcg of levothyroxine and went back for blood work in 6 weeks. Levels had come down but not enough so i was bumped up to 50mcg of levothyroxine. Went back in another 6 weeks and they told me I leveled out and would stay at 50mcg...see me back in 6 months.
665125 tn?1273023924 I have also experienced various tramatic eventsand losses in my life and it seems like after each tramatic event the after math is more memory loss, and difficulty with speech and spelling etc. This is why I was wondering if PTSD and memory loss etc was related or is it just a con-ink-ee-dink? Does anyone have these other congnitive problems with speech or spelling.... and do your symptoms come and go?

Avatar f tn to send me to a endocrinologist who told me that it was a cyst on my adrenal gland it was so big it had my kidney pushed down liver pushed up and lung pushed back, no pain in the side anymore. This year went to my Dr. for a sinus infection and he told me I had a cyst on my thyroid, he did a blood test and said I was fine nothing to worry about. I had to have a hysterectomy because I had endometriosis so bad in 2004 WOW!!!
Avatar m tn Although you are in age of 60s and most common memory problems come with this elderly age as an Alzheimer’s disease, it is essential other possibilities of memory loss like hormonal imbalance, stress/depression, and vitamin deficiency need to be evaluated thoroughly. In this disease, normal day to day activities have been affected more than memory loss. Therefore, I would suggest consulting a doctor to rule out other possibilities first with the help of doctor. Hope this helps.
662374 tn?1224986757 ) Some supplments do cause memory loss, some of the Atypicals can cause it for one and so can some Benzo drugs in some circumstances. One key thing with any drug in the MS or AD class is hydration and general health but ultimately If you are experiencing memory loss your doctor is your best person to speak to - its a serious symptom and one that needs to be examined.

Avatar f tn I still have the extreme fatigue, joint pains, hair loss, and dry skin symptoms as well. But the memory loss is the worst part of all. I also want to mention that last week I forgot the names of the week. All I knew is that it was the "5th day of the week" but I didn't know the names of the days. Any comments are appreciated!
Avatar f tn I realize that you are not thyroid experts but maybe you could make sense of the constant headache, memory loss and cognitive impairment. CT scan of the brain was normal and my thyroid hormone levels are all normal now.
Avatar n tn Our goal is to correct the hypothyroid response in a weight loss patient and return him/her to normal metabolism so that the patient feels normal and is better able to lose weight and maintain that loss.
