Avatar f tn is going to re-check my levels in 6 weeks. I have celiac disease and have always thought I had a thyroid problem. Lots of the symptoms. My question is.....He is going to test me for Hashimoto's which is an antibody blood test in 6 weeks. Will taking the levothyroxine now (for 6 weeks) interfere witht the hashimoto's blood test? I have read that 90% of Celiac Disease patitents also have Hashimoto's. Both auto-immunne disorders.
Avatar m tn The gluten issue is further complicated because there is both celiac disease (autoimmune gluten intolerance) and and non-celiac gluten intolerance. With celiac disease, antibodies attack tissue in the gut making it progressively hard to absorb nutrients. Your doctor probably did an antibody test for celiac, However, the blood test is not conclusive, only a small intesting biopsy is conclusive.
Avatar f tn TSH, free T4, free T3, and antibody blood tests for autoimmune thyroiditis.
Avatar n tn I have been suffering from diagnosed Celiac Disease for several years and try very hard to stick to the gluten free diet, however, I feel like my many symptoms are caused by more then Celiac Disease. I have an appointment with an MD in a few months that prescribes Bio Dentical hormones as well as NatureThroid. Are there additonal tests that I should ask to have done? Can I ask to be treated clinically with these numbers? Thank you all in advance: TSH 2.10 Ref. .35 - 5.50 T3 128.
558632 tn?1303471125 Hi, I also have Graves and Celiac Spur. I totally had and still have opposite symptoms. for both of them. I was diagnosed with graves in 2000 and Celiac in 2008. Only I have unexplained weight gain.
Avatar f tn Recently, it seems to be moving everywhere, I also get this crazy itchiness on the bottom of my feet. I received my thyroid results yesterday and that was within the normal range but my t4 was low. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this develop after pregnancy or if they have a low t4 and have similar symptoms?

Avatar n tn thyroid antibodies is a blood test and celiac antibodies measure for tendency to make antibodies that are consistent with celiac disease(allergy to gluten-in wheat)
Avatar f tn I have read the book you reference, and my feeling is that the link between Hashi's and non-celiac gluten intolerance is theory as opposed to scientific proof. If you have sensitivities to any foods, they are best avoided, and any dietary change that improves overall health (especially gut health with regard to Hashi's) is going to help you feel better. Also, improving your general health and nutrition is going to benefit your whole body.
1105753 tn?1374287348 After talking with another member about gluten intolerance (thanks sherri) I did some research on it. I didn't realize that the gluten intolerance is linked directly to infertility and not just thru problems it creates (like thyroid). I have not been eating gluten for about a year now (well, I do splurge some) after my DH discovered many of my problems have been linked to it (thyroid, stomach issues, acne, etc).
455315 tn?1272107970 According to research recently reported on in the medical journal Digestive Diseases and Sciences, a significant number of patients with autoimmune thyroid disease also have celiac disease. Celiac disease is a disorder that causes the intestines to react abnormally to gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye, barley, oats, spelt, kamut, and other related grains. "...researchers found that...organ-specific autoantibodies (i.e.
Avatar f tn Doing research i found that celiacs can cause many different problems such as nuerological, heart and and thyroid not to mention many other autoimmune problems. Keep doing yur own research because half the time the doctors have no idea whats going on or why. They just put you on meds and hope your symptoms subside.
646782 tn?1224281384 there is a lot of stuff going on in that post but i will say that thyroid can be autoimmune and so can celiac and both are quite common together and believe me both will affect the heart rate in the long run .graves disease is harder to control that hashimotos and it will make the hr higher if not under control.if the thyroid is autoimmune it can reverse back to normal and go up again.
4721809 tn?1358368812 s just an old school pill pusher. He told me last week that celiac disease and thyroid malfunction are not linked at all. I told him that my pharmacist told me they are, as is my osteoporosis. Thanks for your reply.
Avatar f tn I'm not surprised that there is some improvement. Gluten intolerance (not same as Celiac) has been linked to many conditions and has been found to even be the cause. glutenology.net/gutenology-health-matrix-free-video/ In this free video, which I want to watch again, I saw that there is a connection of gluten intolerance with many major illnesses and it said that gluten intolerance was actually the cause.
Avatar f tn Yes, extremely allergic to all factions of cow's milk, plus I can't tolerate gluten in wheat, rye, barley, and oats because of celiac. It is possible that the thyroid med has something in it.. most likely lactose or wheat flour. I have run into this problem before, so you could be right. I will check this out. Thank-you for reminding me!
Avatar n tn Now after a shingles episode 2 years ago I cannot get my thyroid under control and then I was diagnosed with Hashimotis Enceophalopathy 6 mo ago started steroid therapy at 60mg and tapering down to 2.5 mg 2 weeks ago. I feel so exhausted,, nauseated and my whole body-muscles/bones have started hurting. I should add that 6 weeks ago my TSH was 9.4 and am having it repeated tomorrow. Thank you for your help.
Avatar m tn ) If you are interested in going gluten free I recommend that you google celiac.org, celiac central, and just plain celiac disease there is a lot of info about how to do a gluten free diet.
Avatar f tn Having low vitamin D and a thyroid problem could be cause by two different things and may not even be related. Low vitamin D can be a problem in its self.
Avatar f tn The link between celiac disease and autoimmune thyroid disease is well established. Celiac disease and autoimmune thyroid disorders share a common genetic predisposition. This genetic predisposition may explain the higher incidence of thyroid autoimmune disorders among celiacs than in the general population. It has been shown in studies that the prevalence of celiac disease in patients with autoimmune thyroid disease is 4-15 times greater than that in the general population.
Avatar f tn I got a blood test specifically for Celiac and learned that my results were high. Due to Celiac disease, I got a thyroid condition and was achy, cold, and loosing hair. Both NAET and BRT have helped me greatly. More good news. Both NAET and BRT can help the body build up tolerance. I have also used these techniques for more than allergies.
Avatar f tn Specifically, I would suggest tests for freeT3 and free T4 (not total T3 and total T4), thyroid antibodies (TPO ab TG ab), Vitamin D and B12. If the doctor resists, make sure to insist on it and don't take no for an answer. You are the customer. When results are available, I suggest that you get a copy and post results and reference ranges so that members can help interpret and advise further. Doctors are required to provide a copy upon your request.
