Avatar f tn I had a total thyroidectomy and central dissection for papillary thyroid cancer on 16th December, my calcium levels I believe only one parathyroid gland was saved. My calcium went down to 1.8, (IV infusion as tingling) then 2.04, 2.03 (discharged with supplements here) 7 days after op it was up to 2.08. I am taking vit d (1.5mcg per day and 6 x 400 sandcal per day + 3 x 20mcg thyroxine - I am exhausted - is this normal? (now 12 days on) am expected top return to work very soon.
Avatar f tn That is something that your body regulates well since it can effect your heart, muscles, etc. I would go see an ENT or endocrinologist and get ionized calcium and other tests done as well as scans done on the parathyroids left.
1504101 tn?1299155264 If your calcium levels are low and so is your p-thyroid hormone, you need to address it ASAP. I found calcium citrate more readily absorbable and I could take is with other meds and vitamins without it nullifying them.
Avatar m tn I have high levels of calcium in the blood and my parathyroids are functioning normally.. Currently take levothyroxine for my thyroid taken out due to pap Thyroid cancer..3 years ago Tg 0.5 which is undetectable. 29 Dec 2010 - my thyroid levels - Tsh 0.18 ( 0.4- 4.0 ) and Free T4 = 24.0 (9 -19) What signs and symptoms do you look out for with high calcium? Some fatigue, but otherwise ok.. Here are some results 29 Dec 2010 Parathyroid Hormone: 3.3 pmol/l ( 1.
Avatar f tn they damaged my parathyroids and left me with sever Hypocalcemia (low calcium) which causes tetny (severe muscle spasms) because of the calcium. My thyroid levels and calcium levels have never been on the same page. Always needed more but had to wait and was told to give it more time. I've been to 5 Endocrinologists (and settled with the 5th one in Boston). Double up your thyroid medacine! take two instead of one! see how you feel! try if for a day or two or three.
Avatar m tn Also, have you seen a cardiologist and had an echo? Did you have your thyroid levels and TSI/thyroid antibodies checked after your symptoms started to make sure you're still in remission and that this is not related to your thyroid?
Avatar f tn One of the rules of primary hyperparathyroidism - "All patients with parathyroid disease have calcium levels and PTH levels that go up and down. Fluctuating levels of calcium are typical of parathyroid disease." As your calcium levels are stable, this is a good indication that you have secondary hyperparathyroidism.
150794 tn?1242048511 Does anyone have a good solution on trying to keep your calcium levels normal while exercising? I am a hypoparathyriod patient and so far I am guessing 400mg extra calcium for every 20 minutes of aerobic activity. Any other experiance would be helpful. There is just so little info. on this crappy disease.
Avatar m tn My doc said I have high levels of calcium in the blood and my parathyroids are functioning normally.. Currently take levothyroxine for my thyroid taken out due to pap Thyroid cancer..3 years ago Tg (thyroilogublin) 0.5 which is indectable my thyroid levels - Tsh 0.18 ( 0.4- 4.0 ) and Free T4 = 24.0 (9 -19) What signs and symptoms do you look out for with high calcium? Avatar m tn t problems with calcium levels following thyroid surgery, many patients take extra calcium for a couple of weeks after surgery to make sure they keep their levels in check.
793305 tn?1493925518 I had RAI and I had a few problems at the start of the Thyroxin absorbing so my Doctor recommended taking a Calcium/D3 combination and since taking Calcium/D3, my levels evened out and I am doing great. I even tried taking the thyroxine at night and it did help somewhat but am now back to taking Thyroxin when I wake and Calcium before bed. It is also important to get checked for any vitamin deficiences. Zinc, magnesium, calcium, B vitamins, Selenium, Cortisol levels too.
Avatar f tn i had a total thyroidectomy almost 3 months ago and have been experiencing increase numbness and tingling on both hands and lately both feet. My calcium level has been normal never low, i am taking calcium 600mg with 400 IU vit D once a day, my endo has increased it to 3x/day awaiting vit d 25-hydroxy result, ....is this related to my vit. d ?...i've read that u can have a normal calcium level but if your vit. d is defficient that can cause the numbenss and tingling......
Avatar n tn We then did an ionized calcium along with a PTH, free T4, TSH, and thyroid antibody profile. Calcium came back this time at 11.1, TSH 2.14, free T4 1.4, PTH 32, and microsomal TPO-Ab was 102. My doctor also checked a serum and urine electrophoresis which all came back WNL. So my PCP has diagnosed me with Hashimoto's due to the elevated antiobody level and wants me to start on synthroid 25 mcg daily to help with the inflammation in my thyroid.
231441 tn?1333892766 I would strongly suggest that everyone have regular DEXA scan to keep up with bone density, no matter what your TSH levels are. Had mine not been caught when they were and I started on a regimen of calcium, magnesium and vitamin D, I could very well have full blown osteoporosis by now, as does my sister who is 2 yrs older than me, also hypo (dx'd about a year before me), on levo but with "normal" TSH.......what does THAT tell us??
Avatar f tn Hi, you need to let your doctor know how bad you're feeling. They need to test your thyroid and calcium levels. Let us know how you go.
Avatar f tn that only means 2 hours after I take thyroid, but I also read on synthroid list not to take calcium for 4 hrs after taking synthroid. I take one caplet in am and one in pm for calcium, and 600 mg calcium and 400 D.
Avatar f tn You may try having her calcium and PTH levels checked. Sometimes the parathyroid glands become "shocked" in post T-ectomy patients and are erratic controlling calcium levels for awhile. Check out Parathyroid.com and look at the hypo/hypercalcemia symptoms and see it it matches your mom...Also, low vitamin Bs sometimes cause gut issues...I hope this helps!
Avatar f tn Does your primary care physician check your thyroid levels while you're on medication?
Avatar f tn The doctors may be right about the potassium and magnesium, but it's hard for us to say, since we don't know your situation. Magnesium deficiency is common among those of us with thyroid conditions. Did you have parathyroid(s) removed at the same time your thyroid was removed? Parathyroids control movement of calcium and it's common to have calcium issues following their removal.
Avatar f tn But a usual treatment for low calcium following thyroid surgery is calcium and Vitamin D (rocaltrol). Can you ask your doctor if there is any alternative medicine you can take for this? Let us know how you go.
Avatar f tn I had the left side if my thyroid out in 07'...I still have my blood drawn to make sure my thyroid levels r ok...everytime I have to up my does by about 25 mcg(about evy 6 months). B12 was something that was low on my last blood test...my Dr said by taking more B12 could really help me feel better.
Avatar f tn OK...its me again. We got moved after the house foreclosure and it took a month to get internet and cable back. My question of the day is: Will RAI kill off the parathyroid lobes too?? I've had kidney stones AGAIN (but with hydronephrosis this time) and a friend who's nurse asked if the endo was watching my parathyroid lobes too and some level I can't remember? I told her I wasn't sure and would find out at my next appt. with him.
Avatar f tn s mother, who is 70 years old and has been diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism and elevated calcium levels. She is scheduled to have a bone density exam and biospy. Is this the best course of action?? and depending on the results what is next for her?? Should she be scared?? Her daughter, my partner, is very concerned..
