2026744 tn?1527706727 Experts who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of B12 deficiency, like Sally Pacholok R.N. and Jeffery Stewart D.O., suggest treating all patients that are symptomatic and have B12 levels less than 450 pg/mL. They also recommend treating patients with normal B12, but elevated urinary methylmalonic acid (MMA), homocysteine and/or holotranscobalamin (other markers of B12 deficiency).
5386835 tn?1368540815 I take 2000 IU of Vitamin D3 daily. That should be enough to raise your levels also. And you are working on your B12 level, which is way too low in the range. Beyond that, as I suggested, I think you need to give you body some time to respond to the thyroid medication and these supplements and see how you feel. As for your questions about those tests. I found the following info.
Avatar n tn I just thought of something as far as headaches what were his b12 and vit levels? b12 should be above 500 (and closer to 1000) even though the range starts a 250 my friends neuro said she has had patients with neurological symptoms w/b12 in the 500's and vit d the level starts at 32 but my thyroid doctor likes it at around 60. Hoping your husband gets the answers and care he needs.
Avatar m tn Hypothyroid patients taking thyroid medication adequate to relieve symptoms usually will have suppressed TSH, Free T4 at least mid-range, Free T3 in the upper part of its range, Reverse T3 no higher than mid-range, and cortisol, Vitamin D, B12, and ferritin that are all at optimal levels. What thyroid medication are you taking and what is your daily dosage?
Avatar f tn t know for sure, but have noticed numbness in fingers and toes when my thyroid is low. When I have enough thyroid it goes away. Sometimes my hand will go numb at night, as well. That too, goes away when I am regulated. This is certainly not scientific but interesting to hear that someone else has this as well.
Avatar f tn I am going through the same thing. I lowered my meds because my eyes were so bad and low and behold shin/ calf leg burning. They were ok prior to the decrease. I'm starting to take my iron and my b12 again. I also took a Motrin to see if this helps. Yes thyroid labs help. I will get new ones this week.
Avatar n tn He also sent for my vitamin B12 and D levels. My question is Can you treat Hashimotos and why did he check my vitamin levels too? Is there a relationship between your vitamins and Hashitmotos? Thanks.
Avatar n tn Hi I am new to this and have a few questions. I was diagnosed with B12 anemia almost a year ago. I suffered from severe fatigue, memory loss, personality changes, high blood pressure, and loss of feeling in my hands and feet. I started injections and have been on them for year now. I have been feeling better I only need about 10 years of sleep instead of 18. I still have poor memory but not near as bad and so on. I thought after the shots I would feel much better but I don't.
Avatar f tn *General Inflammation and G/I inflammation(Very common with low thyroid sufferers) or Leaky Gut Syndrome. * Low fat diet or issues with fat digestion also relating to not enough cholesterol for hormonal AND vitamin D synthesis ( vit D is fat soluble) * Obesity * certain drugs * high cortisol * Vitamin D Receptor (VDR) gene mutation ( genetic /autoimmune) or decreased VDR expression, common with hypothyroid & Hashimoto's sufferers also.
Avatar f tn As a start to answering your questions, are you taking any thyroid meds? If so, what kind and how much daily? Have you had any recent thyroid tests since the TT? If so, please post results and reference ranges shown on the lab report.
5128334 tn?1364001945 TSH, free T3, free T4, thyroid antibodies - thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb), and thyroglobulin antibodies (TgAb). Excerpt from "Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies - TPO Autoantibodies and Their Significance" by Elaine Moore.... "In conditions of chronic urticaria, thyroid antibodies are not only indicators of chronic inflammation, but they appear to play a role in the disease process.

Avatar f tn The vitamin D council recommend vitamin D serum between 125 - 200nmol/L (50 - 80ng/mL) year round. Vitamin B12 deficiency is another cause of infertility and this deficiency is common with hypothyroidism as well. Optimal vitamin B12 serum is over 600pmol/L (800pg/mL). From what i have read, when trying to conceive make sure your TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) is no higher than 1 or 2 mU/L. There is also evidence that thyroid antibodies level can affect fertility.
Avatar f tn First thing to understand is that even though doctors use TSH like it was the perfect test for thyroid status, at best it is only an indicator to be considered along with more important indicators such as symptoms and also levels of the biologically active thyroid hormones, Free T4 and Free T3 (not the same as Total T4 or Total T3). So it is totally inadequate to medicate a hypothyroid patient based on TSH alone.
Avatar n tn org/posts/Thyroid-Disorders/Gluten-Free-Diet-Lowers-TgAb-but-not-TPOab/show/1003484 Deficiency states commonly found to be low in thyroid patients include vitamin D, vitamin B12, and magnesium. The University of Nebraska Medical Center research study has determined that patients with chronic hives may benefit by supplementing with vitamin D.
Avatar f tn t like how they make me feel, I feel werid not myself. I do take the B12 shots and a fat burner. I am just going to conitue with those two. I have lost weight just by changing my eating habits and exercise. Thank you.
1157054 tn?1266094164 ve been down all those roads too, and am just now (after almost 3 yrs) getting my b12 and thyroid levels right, so I feel human again........
Avatar f tn I’ve had some personal distractions and with the high BP I am refocusing on my health. Skipping docs for thyroid now and am trying for getting the testing done myself. (Any recs how/where?) So with this limited info, should I truly discount a thyroid issue? My symptoms all point that way but each could be something else, so maybe I have 7-8-9 other issues? Testing was going to do to see if I should consider going thousands OOP to see a naturopath are TSH, FT4, FT3, RT3.
Avatar f tn Please double check the T3 and T4 test results you posted and also list the reference ranges shown on the lab report. If tested for Vitamin D, B12 and ferritin, please post those as well.
Avatar f tn Yes, your B12 is too low. My B12 serum is at 590 pmol/L (162 - 800 pmol/L) currently and I take B12 sublingual spray daily for autoimmune pernicious anaemia. My symptoms of not enough B12 show up in days without my spray.
