Avatar f tn What is the connection between thyroid problems and heart problems from medications? I have been taking synthroid for about seven years, currently on 125mg. I have been having problems with my heart rate and beat. It goes very fast and then goes very slow. I have a lot of irregular beats and now my cardiologist wants me to do an ablation but I am convinced that something else is causing this. I have just gotten my thyroid levels checked and they are fine.
Avatar n tn I am considering radiation ablation. Will this reduce my overstimulated now enlarged thyroid nodules. Some of 2 inches long and I have 3 large. Anyone have luck with reduction of nodule size with ablation?
Avatar f tn Should (lab) tg be used to decide if I 131 ablation is done after thyroidectomy? Patho came back Right lobe papillary thyroid carcinoma, predominantly follicular 1.5x1.5x1.2 cm, that grossly abuts both the anterior and posterior aspects. Left lobe multinodular goiter dominant colloid with calcification not dx for carcinoma. The surgeon says I need it, and I can not think that I have gone this far (total thyroidectomy) and then not do the ablation based on a lab test.
Avatar n tn Ablation is radiation of the rest of the thyroid to kill off the remaining tissue so that if there are any microcarcinomas that are in the leftover tissue, we can kill it and the cancer will not spread. I did not have a nodule that they could drain, they were all solid. Cystic nodules can be drained, they are fluid. Fluid nodules are not cancerous. Cancer is solid, or solid/mixed, I had both of these. Also solid nodules can be vascular, meaning they have a blood supply.
Avatar n tn I had my thyroid ablated in 99 and since have been on Armor Thyroid. I still have symptons, of depression, weightgain, dry skin, dry hair, memory loss, etc. I am 43 years old. At my last doctors appointment by TSH was 0.24, Calcium 10.8, Carbon Dioxide 18. I am wondering why I still have symptoms if I am on medication? Shouldn't the medication make me feel better? My personal doctor is a family physican with no specialties.
Avatar f tn I had Hasmimotos disease but I had my throid taken out due to a nodule and all my thyroid antibodies are gone. I also have SVT and had an ablation yesterday and went great, it ws a piece of cake, I would do it again in a minute. I never took anything besides Synthroid while I had Hasimotos I am confused why your doc would not prescribe meds.
Avatar f tn I had a scan done in January right before my ablation and nothing was noted about my thyroid then. What are the chances of this being cancer? Thank you in advance for your help.
1145066 tn?1261367370 I have also done blood tests to show elevated thyroid function but when they do another test to look at the thyroid levels closely they say that it is not bad enough to do anything about it. I dont know what to do anymore. I have heard of people have ablation done, but I have not found a doctor to look into my thyroid further. Could that be the cause? and if so, is there another test to prove so other than blood tests?
Avatar n tn I was told I had hot nodules at the time I was diagnosed. I recently underwent a thyroid sonogram which confirmed a multinodular goiter with dominant mass occupying the lower pole and thyroid isthmus....described as: dominant heterogeneous mass in lower pole 2 x 1.9 x 1.7 cm and a hypoechoic sold nodule in central portion of thyroid isthmus 8.4 mm in thickness.
Avatar f tn Are you saying the doctor told you that you couldn't get pregnant due to something else in your health profile (that isn't the ablation)? Because they would not have told you ablation was birth control. Doctors do certainly tell women something about pregnancy and ablation, what they say is that the she should be certain she doesn't want to have any more kids (if she is contemplating having an ablation). But that's not the same as saying ablation prevents pregnancy.
Avatar f tn The cardiologist thinks I still need the ablation but I would like a second opinion. What do you guys think? Your thyroid does control heart function, right? My heart could not have caused my thyroid to mess up, right? Please help. I can not find anywhere that says that your heart can affect your thyroid, it says it is the other way around. So what is going on? Could they be two separate problems?
Avatar n tn I have posted on numerous occasions about my very successful ablation for a-fib and a-flutter. My ablation was done in January 08 and I have been in NSR ever since. I am off all meds. The ablation has given me back my life. I was very symptomatic with my a-fib and flutter. Having the ablation was one of the best decisions I have made for myself. Good Luck. Wishing you well, and wishing you enough...
Avatar f tn They were all pretty close together and she was almost fully blocked in 1 and 75% in two others. She also has thyroid problems. Doc put her on thyroid medicine 30 years ago to help her lose weight! Now she isn't on thyroid medicine at all. The thyroid is so hard to understand and now I know Lupus is also. I can't believe it took 5 years to be dx'ed. I already feel better after being on plaquenel for 1 week and on thyroid meds for 4 weeks.

1569985 tn?1328247482 I am reading this to mean I will steadily get worse. He DOES NOT recommend ablation at this time, says his view is conservative and save the ablation for when meds won't help anymore. I have a echo scheduled 4/1, and see my regular EP 4/12 - he's pushing for me to join a study and/or have an ablation, altho he never brought it up before this study surfaced (they receive money for doing the study).
Avatar m tn Are thyroid problems hereditary? I’m 37 and I have been having problems with feeling like crap for the past 3 months I have been in the hospital for, four day. I have lab after labs done I keep asking them to really check into my thyroid. Here are some of my symptoms I’m tired all the time even after 8-9 hours of sleep. I’m fatigued all the time, depressed moody.
Avatar m tn I would go see your GP and get your thyroid levels checked. A hyper active thyroid can cause afib and possibly affect your testosterone levels.
Avatar f tn You still have a left lobe. Normal thyroid makes Tg -- this is not specific for cancer in this setting. Also, Armour (pig thyroid) may have Tg. Would change to levothyroxine and get a second opinion before considering surgery or RAI. Good neck ultrasound is the key here to identify any abnormal lymph nodes or suspicious nodules on the left. A 2mm papillary has very low risk overall - be careful not to be over-treated!
Avatar n tn Does RAI or thyroid surgery ever need to be considered again if RAI was administered over 20 yrs ago?
Avatar n tn It takes 5-6 weeks to normalize thyroid function on the appropriate dose of medication -- waiting until thyroid is normal is recommended before trying to conceive. Would also check thyroid antibodies as if these are positive then you likely have Hashimoto's which would support the use of thyroid hormone. Alternatively, there may be temporary mild hypothyroidism after removing half the thyroid - this does not require treatment usually and will normalize within 2-3 months after surgery.
Avatar f tn Well, to be exact, a thyroid is a gland, not a disease. If you have a thyroid disease, you have a major disease and be quite sick. Sorry to be so exact, I can't help it! I had thyroid cancer, and a total thyroidectomy. I miss my thyroid!
Avatar f tn A related discussion, <a href="/posts/Thyroid-Disorders/Undetectable-tsh-post-thyroid-cancer/show/1842839">Undetectable tsh post thyroid cancer</a> was started.
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with venticular tachycardia and the specialist wants to do an ablation on my heart in 2 weeks. The specialist says it is not my thyroid causing the tachycardia. I am scared of the ablation. I have read horror stories about palpitations that people have after the surgery. I do get a few palpitations here and there, but do not want an increase in these at all!!! I'm looking for any and everyone's take on this.
Avatar f tn I had a Total Thyroidectomy when a nodule in my left thyroid came back Papillary Carcinoma, Follicular Variant. My pathology reported no spread to the lymph nodes that the surgeon removed and a tiny (they called it insignificant) spot of cancer on my right thyroid. My surgeon seems to think that my cancer was completely contained to my thyroid and that my cancer is likely gone. Why would they be recommending Radioactive Iodine if it was contained to my thyroid.
