Throat pain when swallowing on one side

Common Questions and Answers about Throat pain when swallowing on one side

Avatar f tn For about a month I have had pain on the right side of my throat when swallowing. I don't feel it in the morning and it gets pregressivly worse through out the day. I dont feel it when I swallow food or liquids. Just when I swallow saliva. Its not where my tonsils are, its further down my throat near the hyoid bone. Ive been to an ENT and he felt my neck, no lumps and took a long mirror and looked down my throat and didnt see anything.
Avatar f tn What would cause a sudden pain on left side of throat with every swallow? I have been very tired needing an afternoon nap the last two days...sleeping about 4 hours each time...have had a stuffy nose but no cough, no fever, no sinus pain or pressure, no ear pain, etc. Before throat pain, I had taken Therma-Flu, three and a half hours later, the left side of my throat suddenly began to hurt with every swallow. I do not have tonsils. I do not have a sore throat.
Avatar n tn If had position change helps, then it semms to be muscle related, since muscles on right side of the neck relax, when you turn head right. I would ask for appointment with rheumatologist or a specialist for sport medicine.
Avatar f tn My lymph glands are not swollen and I am not experiencing any pain when I swallow. I also do not have trouble swallowing, but when I turn my head to the left side I get a clunking sound.
Avatar f tn About 2.5 weeks ago I started feeling a sore throat on the right side (this side always has bothered me on and off since I had strep in august 2013). I do have TMJ, I clench my jaw at night and often during the day. I have been having ear pain on that side. I did a endoscopy of my nose, ear and throat and the doctor said I was fine, just inflamed. Any ideas why inflammation can last this long?
Avatar n tn I was positioned on my left side and instructed to bring my knees up to my chest. She then put a mask over my nose and mouth. I woke up with the worst sore throat of my life. My throat was blood red and it hurt to talk, cough, breath and swallow. I've had strep throat many times and the pain was nothing like that. I gargled with warm salt water, took throat lozenges, etc. and nothing helped.
Avatar f tn For 3 days now I've had really bad pain on the left side of my throat. Seems to be worse when laying down, the first night it kept me up all night due to the pain with every swallow. It's keeping me from eating, ibuprofen barely helps at all.. Salt water seems to make it hurt worse.. I have no insurance at this time and I don't want to have to go to ER for something like this. The pain is severe enough to put me right to tears, especially first thing in the morning.
Avatar n tn I have a feeling this all started as problems from my seasonal allergies. I have extreme pain in my throat (predominantly left side of throat) when I swallow anything - even hot tea didn't help. I bought some Chloraseptic spray & lozenges, but still no relief. Suggestions?
Avatar n tn t had anthing to drink in days (but my mouth and throat are not dry). The pain is not in my throat, but more toward my right ear. There is no swelling, and it seems to mostly hurt when I am just swallowing saliva.
Avatar n tn I have pain in my neck when I swallow, usually when I am just swallowing saliva (a little with food or beverage). The pain is not in my throat, but about half way between my throat and right ear, right under the jaw. There is no swelling. I think there is a problem with my salivary gland there. Is this something that will work it's way better, or do I need to see a doctor?
Avatar n tn I wasn't sure what topic to put this under so I went with colds because I've been sick for a little over a week now. I started out having a really sore throat to the point where I couldn't talk. It cleared up and then I developed a runny nose which also is showing signs of stopping. My throat hasn't hurt for a few days until I woke up today I noticed it was uncomfortable when I swallow.
1173247 tn?1504594662 I assume this means no cyst. As I had been having specific symptoms on the right side of my throat she took 2 biopsies one from my right tonsil and one from the base of my tongue. Afterwards I was not able to ask any meaningful questions as I was very groggy! My problem has always been much lower down in my neck almost at my collar bone. I return to the hospital in 4 weeks time for the histology results. Since the procedure I still have the exact same problem in the same place.
Avatar f tn Pain on the left side of my throat which spikes when swallowing or yawning, what appear to be small bumps in the back of my throat, redness in the back of my throat, a tightness that resembles a less severe sensation similar to that felt when yawning, and the capillaries are very visible (probably enhanced by the general redness). These issues come up what seems to be sporadically. They come suddenly and last either for hours or up to a few days.
Avatar m tn Now, The pain has gone away completely except there is very mild pain sometimes in my throat on the right side. However, the clicking is still there when I swallow on the left side. I also feel that only the muscles on the right side of my throat are working efficiently while swallowing. There is no clicking when I swallow with my neck in extended position(looking up). however, in its normal position, when I swallow, I get a click on the left side of my throat. I went to the ENT.
Avatar m tn I still have this lum swallow that I can hear or feel popping when I swallow spit. My throat is a very little sore. Very little. My tongue, especially on the right side will get a weird sensation of tingling or fullness or numbness (not sure which). When I look at my tongue nothing is there. These feelings can happen on my left side as well, but are predominately on the right. No ear pain, no breathing or swallowing trouble. Again all this is a 2 week span following a cold.
Avatar n tn It is not unusual for an infected throat to be accompanied by pain with swallowing but actual “difficulty swallowing” is uncommon, especially if it is accompanied by choking and/or cough when swallowing liquids or solid food. It would be uncommon for throat cancer to have what sounds like a sudden onset; the rapid onset more consistent with infection, including concern about the possibility of infection of the epiglottis.
Avatar m tn I am a 21 year old non smoker, currently suffering a few days of neck pain, with occasional pain swallowing, sometimes minor ear ache (only on left side). I once had an inflamed lyph node (some months ago) but then nothing unil now. I have a history of hypochondria, and identifying pains with no cause, and was begining to worry about having pancreatic cancer or some bowl problems before, but this certainly seems real. Pain comes and goes.
Avatar n tn I am still actively exercising and weight lifting and have noticed no difference. I seem to simply have this pain when swallowing. Any ideas? How long should I wait before seeing a doctor?
Avatar m tn I have been trying to figure out wat causes this pain and i have noticed that i feel the pain sometimes (not all the time) when i swallow. Just as i swallow ill feel that jolt of pain in my head. Also sometimes when chewing food i feel the jolt of pain.
Avatar m tn another thing is that the pain was moving from side to side , for one two days were on the left, the next they were on right and the next on the center.
Avatar m tn in parallel to this i started to have typical symptoms of LPR which involved pain in the throat in the morning, sometimes on the right side sometimes on the left while swallowing saliva only (not food or water). also the pain would occur only when my head will be in a specific position and swallow.
Avatar m tn It sounds wierd but I have discovered that when I close my mouth and nose and try to force air up my throat it seems to escape out of this area. There has been minor pain at times when swallowing or yawning and sneezing. I have always been afraid to do anything about it or get it looked at by a doctor and it hasn't seemed to get any worse at all, actually seeming better at times, for a long time now. This has been a problem for several years now.
