Avatar f tn You can have your tonsils removed at the age of 27, but be aware that the removal of tonsils at your age is seldom warranted. Recurrent, otherwise uncontrollable infection or airway obstruction, with or without a sleep disorder called obstructive sleep apnea, may sometimes be indications for tonsillectomy. As with any surgery, this type of surgery is not without risk, and for days to a week after surgery, one's throat can be very painful.
Avatar n tn This could be a throat infection, with or without swollen tonsils. You will need to have a careful examination of your throat, preferably by an ENT specialist, and should do so without delay. Good luck.
Avatar m tn t a different type of strep. When I think of throat infection + rash I immediately jump to scarlet fever. Would that show in a strep a test? If I didn't have this rash I wouldn't be so concerned about possibilities for my ailment. That, and I'm supposed to be attending Lollapalooza this weekend in downtown Chicago. Thanks in advance!
Avatar m tn In either case, you should have your tonsils and throat examined and should do so without delay. The severity of bacterial infection of the tonsils varies greatly but it can sometimes be severe, involve other tissues in the immediate tonsillar area and may even spread to distant parts of the body. Grossly swollen tonsils are unusual in an adult and should be treated as a serious condition.
Avatar f tn Hi, it could most probably be tonsillitis and a throat infection. Recurrent tonsillitis is an indication for tonsillectomy, as the tonsils may harbor the infection which keeps flaring up, or they may develop new infections. White patches are common in many throat infections. The sore throat and tonsillitis which you had may have contributed to it. In response to the infection the body produces soft white debris which collects in the tiny indentations in the tonsils called crypts.
665003 tn?1225215322 My throat has looked like this for many years, but I have only had strept throat a few times. What could this be? And should I get my tonsils removed?
Avatar f tn Hi, the symptoms described could be due to an infection, most probably streptococcal or a viral infection. Strep sore throat needs to be treated with an antibiotic as strep is a bacteria. Viral sore throat is best treated with rest, warm oral fluids and (OTC) tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen for pain.
Avatar n tn Had protected sex with a sex worker 18 months ago. After sex while removing the condom my finger touched on it. Two weeks later i had a throat infection. The doctor said an inflamation on throat and gave antibiotics. Next week i had stomach upsets and diarhea for two days. The throat infection was not the same like i had before. Something which is itching on the right tonsils and white color and red color spot on the tonsils also appears.
Avatar f tn HI, Having a large tonsil does not mean that something is terribly wrong. They can be because of repeated throat infection causing chronic tonsillitis. There are scientific journal studies regarding tonsilar asymmetry and it seems that they recommend ruling out a malignant causes since the majority of unilateral enlargements are present in lymphomas. Consult an ENT specialist for an evaluation. The answer is based on information provided.
Avatar n tn I have two BLACK growths on the back right side of my throat tucked behind my tonsils. They are lighter at the base and have the texture of nose cartilage, in that they are plyable but not soft and do not feel as though they could be lanced or anything. i would estimate them to be about the size of a peanut m'n'm if you added all the surface area together. They dont really hurt but are more uncomfortable in nature. The dr. took a swab but was rather dismissive of the severity.
Avatar m tn This is coming from your tonsils. you probably need to go see an ear, nose, and throat specialist to determine whether you need your tonsils removed or not. the yellow, smelly pellets are like puss pockets and if you push a little on your tonsils you would probably see some appear. Yeah, i know it's gross but that would prove to you where they are originating from. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn It could most probably be tonsillitis and a throat infection. Throat pain, difficulty swallowing, fever, scratchiness in the throat, post nasal drip, malaise and loss of appetite are symptoms of tonsillitis. It can be caused by bacteria like streptococcus or it could be a viral infection. Bacterial infections need antibiotics. Consult your primary care physician who will do blood tests and take a throat swab to determine the cause and prescribe appropriate medications.
Avatar n tn After about only 5 minutes we stopped, and he never ejaculated in my mouth. Now, I have a sore throat, and white spots on my tonsils. About two weeks ago I visited the doctor and was treated for an ear infection. I am wondering if I should be worried that I contracted gonorrhea, or if the sore throat is just conincidental? Would gonorrhea cause white spots on my tonsils?
946578 tn?1258663287 t solve the problem, like maybe my throat will get infected-even without my tonsils. I can deal with the sinus infections, they aren't that bad. But not being able to eat or talk and the miserable pain is just too much. Tonsilitus once a month has just gotten ridiculous. Any ideas?
Avatar n tn Hi Oyder, A combination of enlargement of tonsils with enlargement of neck glands indicates that its due to infection. But enlargement on just one side might be something else. You need to consult an ENT doctor. I dont think LPR has got anything to do with this one sided tonsilar and neck glands enlargement. ================================================================ The information provided is for patients’ education only and is not a medical advice.
Avatar f tn My 8 year old daughter has a reoccuring throat infection that requires antibiotics. She took 7 or 8 rounds of it last year and again this year seems to be getting it again. I do not want her to build up antibodies or become allergic to it. I know antibiotics are good here and there, but too much isn't good for you and if I can find a way to help her avoid her throat infections, I'd like to eliminate the need for antibiotics.
Avatar m tn Another possibility would be infection of the mouth (“trench mouth”) and throat, including the tonsils, the area adjacent to the tonsils (peri-tonsillar) adenoids, tongue, gums and teeth that can be contagious and dental abscess. Infection in any of these areas is usually mostly a nuisance but they can some times be quite serious, especially in the tonsillar and peri-tonsillar areas.
Avatar f tn I had a fever and swollen tonsils a little over a month ago it went away on its on, and a about two weeks ago I went to the doctor because my swollen tonsils came back again but without a fever. She diagnosed me with a sinus infection which made sense at the time. I was on amoxillian for ten days. A few days later my glands in my neck and throat are swollen again. I was wondering if it sounded like I have mono?
Avatar f tn I went to the doctor on Thursday with a headache, sinus pain and drainage and bumps on the back of my throat. No fever. He put me on a Z-pack and Flonase. I went back today because I looked at my throat and saw white stuff down the side where my tonsils hide. That doctor said it's an Adenovirus and to continue the meds and gargle with salt water. He said the white stuff is not pus but is sinus drainage. I looked Adenovirus up and got scared!
Avatar n tn If they look really red or if you see bumps on them then it may be your tonsils that are hurting. If they are infected you can also get that lump in your throat feeling. However, when I had tonsillitis I also felt really bad and had a fever. Strep is another possibility and one you dont want to ignore. Complications of strep can be dangerous. Also of people get fever and feel really sick with a strep inection but sometimes all you have is a chronic sore throat.
Avatar m tn There is no specific treatment for infectious mononucleosis and few doctors may recommend a 5-day course of steroids to control the swelling of the throat and tonsils. When the illness lasts more than 6 months, it is called chronic EBV infection. Do keep me posted with more queries. Best luck and kind regards!
Avatar m tn t swollen, only symptoms are the swollen tonsils and bumps in my throat. And I see my next doctor on Thursday of this week, all of the doctors (total of three) I've seen since August have all basically told me they can't do anything and to wait and see if the tonsils will go down and they haven't after all this time!
Avatar f tn ve performed unprotected oral sex on him 5 months ago and did not experience ANY symptoms at all. About a month ago in july I got a serious throat infection where my tonsils were swollen and painful and it hurt to swallow. I took antibiotics and the pain went away within a few days. However my tonsils remained severely inflamed for 2 weeks. They are still partially inflamed but I can talk and eat properly. I'm not sure if is gonorrhea or not seeing as it took so long to develop.
1110049 tn?1409402144 I have been getting sore throats quite frequently recently, and always lose my voice. I am 71 years old, so it could be age related. I have been without a voice this time for 5 days, and my throat is very sore.
Avatar f tn For several weeks I have felt as if I have a hair in the back of my throat and start to cough and brought up mucus at the beginning of the infection. Now I just start to cough without warning. Is this airconditioning in the car or apartment? Any ideas?
Avatar f tn The sore throat could be due to an infection, most probably streptococcal or a viral infection. Strep sore throat needs to be treated with an antibiotic as strep is a bacteria. Viral sore throat is best treated with rest, warm oral fluids and (OTC) Tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen for pain.

Avatar f tn White patches are common in many throat infections. The throat infection which you have may have contributed to it. In response to the infection the body produces soft white debris which collects in the tiny indentations in the tonsils called crypts. Repeated salt water gargles will help. Mix one teaspoon of salt in 1 cup of warm water and gargle. If the patches increase in size or become painful then consult your doctor. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
