Common Questions and Answers about Throat infection not responding to antibiotics

throat

Avatar f tn You appear to be having a viral infection, hence are not responding to antibiotics. The other possibility is that the bacteria are not sensitive to the antibiotic you are taking. Along with cold symptoms since you also have sever neck pain, chances of meningitis are there. On the other hand viral flu causes neck pain and headache too. It is also possible that you have infectious mononucleosis. You have searched well!
Avatar f tn Throat Avatar universal Sinus infection for 17 days, not responding to 2 courses of antibiotics Violetaforest 37 mins Hi, I am on day 17 of this sinus infection. I have a 8 year history of chronic sinusitis in my right maxillary sinus and about 10 sinus infections a year, half of them requiring antibiotics. I have never had a sinus infection this complicated.
Avatar n tn I am now on antibiotics for strep throat and it seems to not be work, which I had a throat culture with positive for strep. My oral infection is getting worse. I was tested for HIV at 6 1/2 weeks after risky sex, and it was negative. Why is my oral infection, which I believe to be thrush not responding to treatment and strep not responding to antibiotics? How reliable is my negative test result on HIV test? I am still not feeling well at times.
242516 tn?1368223905 If less than 3 of 4 of these signs are positive, then wait for your strep test or throat culture to show a bacterial infection before taking antibiotics. These are general guidelines, meant to be taken in the whole context of your health history by your doctor. Avatar n tn Bacterial infections need antibiotics. Consult your primary care physician who will do blood tests and take a throat swab to determine the cause and prescribe appropriate medications. In the meantime take plenty of warm oral fluids and lots & lots of rest. For further relief from your symptoms you could do warm salt water gargles and steam inhalations. Please ensure to do this prior to your meals. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn Of course you have to go to a doctor to determine if you have some bacterial infection but the cough could just be from anemia or just a plain side. It's happenend to plenty of folks on the forum.

Avatar n tn I have a very inflamed throat and an ear ache which the doctor said was responding to the sore throat. PLEASE quick answer-Thanks SO much.
Avatar f tn m not sure about azithromycin there are safe antibiotics but not all are safe to take during pregnancy. Do not take anything without asking or seeing your Dr.
Avatar m tn I agree they are not herpes related. Also, I don't think the throat thing has anything to do with the labial thing but if it did the antibiotics would take care of both. It doesn't sound like an STD related issue it is an infection or a cyst that is draining (regarding the labial area). If the throat or the labial area don't clear up and/or if you re-develop a fever see your doctor.
Avatar f tn please help i have a bad left ear ache, been to docs, had 2 courses of antibiotics, not worked. my ear is clogged up, it has fluid in it as well. I,m worried about my holiday, i have a 3 and half hour flite. my left ears painful and worse outside. please help, what can i do.
Avatar m tn This could be the infection spread to your guns. Go get some more antibiotics. You also should get a mouth wash that is for canker sores and swollen guns. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Along with this if you have sore throat and fatigue then a viral infection is a possibility. This will not respond to antibiotics. Basically this will respond to anti-inflammatory drugs. It can also be an allergic process that may require you to test for allergens either by a skin test or RAST. What you now face can be a part of post viral fatigue syndrome too. This can be treated patiently with exercise, good diet, work out plans and multivitamins.
Avatar n tn If this is something bacterial, it shoud be responding to the antibiotic unless it is NOT bacterial or the wrong antibiotic was prescribed. What antibiotic have you been taking?
Avatar n tn Strep throat is confirmed by a test when they swab the back of your throat. I can't comprehend any doctor treating you for strep throat if they have not tested you for it. If the diagnoses has been confirmed and you are not responding to the antibiotics you mights need something stronger. You should call your doctor's office and let them know how you are feeling. They would be able to call something else in for you or might want to do other tests to confirm what may be the problem.
170935 tn?1225371076 Last year, within a two month period, my husband and I both had a serious chest and sinus infection which required us to continue going back to the doctor to get stronger dosages of antibiotic. We finally ended up taking the strongest dosage once a day which finally cleared up the infections.
Avatar m tn Part of the illness included an infection in the throat. The infection was cleared up with antibiotics but i was still very tired for a few weeks. Could this have been acute infection? Do people ever get sore throat that clear up with antibiotics during the window period? I know that antibiotics don't help viral infections but I wonder if it could have been an opportunistic infection. Is it common to have opportunistic throat infections during the acute phase?
Avatar f tn I was taking cephalexin for a really bad throat and ear infection I had two weeks ago.
Avatar m tn call the dentist and let him/her know you have a sore throat. the antibiotics will not make it worse, may even make it better. I just had my abscessed wisdom tooth pulled 2 weeks ago and was in the middle of taking the antibiotics, hadnt finished them yet. he may give you another rx for them or you may have to see your general practitioner. But definitely call them and give them a heads up!
Avatar f tn My 8 year old daughter has a reoccuring throat infection that requires antibiotics. She took 7 or 8 rounds of it last year and again this year seems to be getting it again. I do not want her to build up antibodies or become allergic to it. I know antibiotics are good here and there, but too much isn't good for you and if I can find a way to help her avoid her throat infections, I'd like to eliminate the need for antibiotics.
Avatar f tn I decided to go to my GP this morning for reassurance and she diagnosed a throat infection and put me on antibiotics. She doesn't think its from the medicine so I feel reassured. I have had about 3 throat infections in the last 3 months. I wonder if they are related to the thyroid issue in any way because I have not been feeling well since the first infection and it just seems to be the start of everything and has been going downhill ever since.
Avatar m tn AND IT IS ONLY ON ONE SIDE OF MY THROAT..and compared to when it all started a month ago the pain is much better but its not going away.
