Avatar n tn ve been to see my family doctor 4 times. Three of the four times, I was told I had a sinus infection with laryngitis but the last time was different as I had only laryngitis. Now I feel a lump in my throat, more like the very back of my tongue, and it has become difficult to swallow food.
Avatar n tn Acute pharyngitis and laryngitis is the commonest cause of loss of voice due to infection and inflammation of the voice box and throat. This active infection, coughing, and clearing throat can often result in break in small blood vessels. Usually these heal with treatment of laryngitis which involves antibiotics, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic drugs along with maybe decongestants, warm saline gargles and throat elixirs.
Avatar m tn You seem to have acute laryngitis and pharyngitis. The sore throat indicates infection and there can be associated lesion on vocal chords and larynx. Allergic manifestations may be associated with breathing difficulty and skin manifestations. Acute laryngitis is self limiting condition and vocal cord lesions needs voice rest. Along with it general measures like salt water gargling, fluid intake etc. Throat swab will help to identify responsible pathogen and need to take appropriate antibiotics.
Avatar m tn I know that regular gonorrhea in the genitals does not always show symptoms, but I was wondering about gonorrhea in the throat? It seems to me like a throat infection would be different, because as far as I know, any bacteria in the throat wouldn't be considered an infection if it wasn't giving you symptoms, such as a sore throat.
Avatar f tn It could be due to varied causes like upper respiratory tract infection like laryngitis or pharyingitis, head and neck cancer, oral cancer, reflux laryngitis in people who have acidity and GERD, muscle abnormality, voice box abnormality, polyps, tumors or weakness of voice box etc. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar n tn I wnet to a Doctor before getting on my return flight and he said he thought I had laryngitis likely caused by a viral infection. Therefore, he did not prescribe antibiotics. It has been about 9 days since the sexual encounter and I am wondering what my risk factors are. Could the oral sex have exposed me to an STD taht would cause a sore throat and laryngitis? If so, which STD would be most likely?
Avatar m tn t have any symptoms except difficulty in swallowing and discomfort in my throat. I feel like something is struck in my throat 70% of the time. I feel like soar throat if I shout loudly. I am fearing if I would have been infected with HSV1. Will this be Herpes Laryngittis/ pharyngitis? will viral Laryngitis/Pharyngitis get relief from antibiotics as I was feeling well in a day after I took them. Will Herpes Laryngitis/Pharyngitis cause no sores in the mouth, tounge or lips?

Avatar f tn Serious but rare causes are laryngeal cancers. If it is laryngitis caused by a viral infection humidified steam and adequate fluid intake will be helpful.Treatment will depend on the underlying cause. Avatar n tn The duration of this illness and the pain with speaking and swallowing are not typical and suggest inflammation or infection of structures in your throat, other than your vocal cords. Pure laryngitis is not painful. The shot you received is an anti-inflammatory medicine and could relieve inflammation and provide relief, whatever the cause.
Avatar m tn Is it possible that The Laryngitis i have is responsible for my sore throat, and cough, or Is it a part of the cold?
Avatar n tn When using inhaled corticosteroids, some of the drug may deposit in your mouth and throat and cause laryngitis. This can cause coughing, hoarseness, dry mouth and sore throat. Gargling and rinsing the mouth after each puff on your corticosteroid inhaler, may help to prevent mouth and throat irritation. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I was in the shower a minute ago, and when I pressed down on my throat, on the left side, right under my jaw it hurt. Do I have laryngitis or what? I'm a Taurus, so I'm prone to problems with my neck. But what is going on with me? Please help!
Avatar n tn Almost 3 months ago I started sneezing violently for a minute or 2, which resulted in a productive cough that lasted 2 months, with post nasal drip . Then I developed an upper respiratory infection (sore throat, laryngitis, and increased coughing) and the whole process started over again. I'm taking an antibiotic which has dealt with the infection, but I am getting so frustrated with this never ending cough, which is affecting my ability to work and interact socially.
Avatar f tn But drinking lot of fluids, sucking lozenges, gargle with salt water, breathing moist air to soothe sore throat, refraining from taking decongestants (because they dry your throat), resting your larynx will help you. Antibiotics and anti inflammatory against prescription will help you. I suggest you to consult ENT specialist. Take care and regards.

Avatar n tn m a 25 yo female and I keep getting these upper respiratory illnesses- in November, I had the flu, followed by post viral syndrome, January, I had a sinus infection treated with doxycycline, in March I had another cold, again followed by post viral syndrome, and an ear infection a week later, treated with azithromycin. Now I've got another cold- it started with laryngitis that came on over 12 hours, progressed with a fever that spiked at 101 the next am, and was 99-99.

Avatar n tn m usually prescribed antibiotics for a suspected sinus infection, and take it faithfully but I worry that it dries out my throat even more, exacerbating the croup like symptoms. I also wonder if the anitbiotic is useless if perhaps the origin of my upper respiratory infection is viral. It seems abnormal to have such severe problems with laryngitis.
Avatar n tn No matter how much I clear my throat or cough, I cannot clear out my throat and my voice is almost gone. I am taking Mucinex, Advair, Singulair, Xyzal, and Combivent (when necessary). My family doctor has diagnosed this as a sinus infection, but I have had no headaches or tooth pain. He has put me on antibiotics, which don't seem to be helping. What do you think I have and what can I do to get my voice back?
Avatar n tn I called my doctor, who changed me to Azithromycin. My laryngitis is better. Most of the sore throat is gone. However, I still have sore swollen glands, and I still have a large white pocket in my throat (Next to my Faucial Pillars). Is this typical? How long should I give it for the white patch and gland stuff to go away?
Avatar n tn Started feeling achy, with headache, chills and a sore throat a week ago. Had a cough but felt like I couldn't clear my lungs. A couple days later started feeling better and then I started coughing more and then I ended up with Laryngitis. What can you take to speed the recovery from losing your voice. I am so hoarse and wasn't really coughing much to cause this Laryngitis.
Avatar n tn Hi, I am a healthy, active 19 year old. I suffered with multiple viral infections of the throat throughout last year. I finally had a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy. Returning back to school as a sophomore, I am sick once again. I have had fevers for five days now, difficulty breathing, severe sore throat with ulcers, and swolen shut nasal passages. The worst part of this illness is how painful the throat it along with a little laryngitis.
