Avatar f tn Does anyone know if tobacco and alcohol are still thought to be cofactors in oral hpv cancer? Do most people with oral hpv have a weakened immune system?
Avatar f tn You have an increased risk of developing throat cancer if you smoke tobacco and drink alcohol, chew betel quid, or being infected with human papillomavirus (HPV). It would be best to have this evaluated by your doctor for proper management. Visualization of the throat may help rule out the presence of foreign objects or cysts. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn It my memory serves me well I believe it's a bout a week before you start feeling better or maybe sooner with the short amount of time you had been chewing. But you are right you will have the runs which is your body ridding toxins (de-toxifying) to be become regular. Headaches are normal during this period and if you are lucky enough you won't experience any of the mental symptoms from nicotine withdrawal which included irritability, anxiety, agitation, and even sometimes depression.
Avatar n tn Since you have a history of smoking and tobacco use it is important to eliminate lung cancer as a cause of enlarged lymph node. The fatigue , headache and dry mouth and throat are quite possibly nicotine withdarwal symptoms that you are experiencing. http://quitsmoking.about.com/cs/cravingsandurges/a/withdrawal.htm Let me know if you need more information. Take care!
Avatar n tn Further, the throat cancer due to hpv is extremely low to rare and hpv is not the major cause of throat cancer but it can be a causitive factor... the tobacco use is the major cause of throat cancer... Studies have shown that people having HPV strains in mouth were either had extremely weak immune system, were HIV positive or they were on chemeotherpy for cancer...
Avatar f tn Essentially I have had throat pain for an extended period of time. It's a minor pain when swallowing but noticeable; further more it's tender to the touch when pressed. When I press my finger and apply the same amount of pressure to the left side of my throat it isn't tender. Also note I've chewed tobacco for 7yrs. And have to take Zantac heartburn pills twice daily or else my day and night will be torture with heart burn.
Avatar f tn Well, there are possible risks of getting diagnosed with throat cancer if you smoke or use other tobacco products. So, I'll suggest you quit smoking asap and get it checked by the specialist. I hope this will be nothing serious but still, it is better to take precautions before it gets worse. Best of luck!
Avatar m tn nor does and head or neck cancer run in my family. About three months ago i got a sore throat and it would get better for a week then worse, i had no other symptoms of a cold. I noticed about a month ago that i had a bump about the size of slightly larger quarter on the back side of my neck. I got slightly worried becayse i didnt kow what it was but i waited and about two weeks later and shrunk to the size of dime.
Avatar n tn I came across in a magizine at work about this also being linked to throat cancer and have been pretty worried ever since. I would think if I had HPV 16 my husband would have too, and I have been performing oral sex on him for years 7/8 years hundrends of times. I feel like my case is a little different than others about this topic bc I had abnormal cells "down there" so wouldnt there be a good chance i have them in my throat as well being exposed to it many times?
Avatar m tn com/r/2aikcw6/6 my question is what could this be other than cancer, and what are the chances of this being cancer?
Avatar f tn I chew tobacco. My symptoms are painless white patches (sometimes accompanied with redness) usually in areas I chew at inner lip. The white patches(redness) come and go. If I stop chewing in that one spot it goes away. I have feeling that I need to swallow, like I have peice of food in throat, that come and goes. A bad taste in my mouth. The white patches do not scrape off but sometimes it can be scraped away when few days have passed. I am worried its cancer.
Avatar n tn m delighted to hear of the successful therapy of your throat cancer. Your question deals with a topic that I am not familiar with however, I doubt that your prior HPV positive cancer posed a risk for future sexual partners. Let me share my thinking on this topic with you. 1.
Avatar f tn You have a higher chance to getting cancer from smoking than you do from smokeless tobacco. Cigarette smoke contains 60 carcinogens while smokeless tobacco contains 28. Smokeless tobacco is BY NO MEANS safe, and the risk of oral cancer DOES exist, but it is LESS than smoking.
Avatar m tn Hi, is the discoloration still present? If present it could also be Leukoplakia, which is a condition where patches of keratosis appear as adherent white patches on the mucous membranes of the oral cavity and throat. It is a potentially pre-cancerous disease of the mouth and throat. A biopsy may help to diagnose this condition. The cause of leukoplakia is unknown, but tobacco, whether smoked, dipped or chewed, is considered to be the main culprit in its development.
Avatar m tn Last year on our country of over 350 million people there were less than 7000 cases of oral/throat cancer due to HPV 16, the genital HPV now associated with these cancers. Since the majority of sexually active people have HPV at some time in their life and since most of them have included oral sex in their sexual activities, any one person's risk is quite low.
19880027 tn?1485894768 For the about 15 years I've been chewing tobacco and smoking it for almost 26 years. I'm 35 and it's been a very long run that I thoroughly enjoyed. Now when it's time to hang it up there's no support for those of us that chew tobacco. There's stop smoking just about everywhere you look and I gave up smoking November of 2016. Today is day 8 tobacco free and all I can think about is eating but I'm on a monitored diet.
Avatar m tn s a lump in the back of my throat on the right hand side. Specifically, if I press on the back, under part of my jaw (in the soft area) and swallow, the sensation goes away. There is no pain associated with this feeling, but extreme annoyance. Recently, I've noticed 2 other things that COULD be related, but I don't want to jump to any conclusions. My right nostril is constantly clogged and no matter how hard I blow or snort, nothing comes from it.
Avatar n tn With this you can have a constant burning sensation and pain. This also causes the foreign body sensation in the throat. This is not cancer. There are treatment options for people who have LPR. Most of the treatments can also be used as prevention measures.
Avatar n tn Negatives ... it's illegal except when a doctor prescribes it ... positives ... ... ... ... ... I really can't think of any REAL positives unless you're dying of cancer and it helps with the nausea from the cancer drugs. If you're sensing that "something isn't right" with your body ... your body is telling you to get off the marijuana and take up healthy eating and exercising.
Avatar m tn But this should serve as a warning for you to stop tobacco consumption. Smokeless tobacco is associated with an increased risk of mouth cancer. It usually starts as a precancerous lesion in the form of leucoplakia (white patch) or sometimes erythroplakia (reddish patch). Cancer generally many years to develop but you need to develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle. All the best!
