Throat cancer testing

Common Questions and Answers about Throat cancer testing

throat

Avatar f tn I went to see an ENT and he did a scope (went in through the nose and looked down at the throat), I had a CT of the throat, and an Ultrasound of my thryroid and a Upper GI Series (Barium Swallow). There was nothing he could see from the scoping, the CT came back negative, the Barium swallow showed mild to moderate acid reflux, and the ultrasound showed nodules (which the doc said was nothing to worry about). All in all everything that was done did not show any type of mass or obstruction.
Avatar m tn t know how long after exposure it would take for a new HPV infection of the mouth or throat to show up on testing; it might be several months. You probably can find online sources for such testing, but for these reasons I cannot recommend them. The only HPV type to be concerned about is HPV-16, which the only strain known to be associated with increased risk of later throat cancer.
Avatar n tn Is it possible I have some viral infection from the HPV in my throat, possibly cancer? Would symptoms appear that quickly? Should I go to an OBGYN or an MD to check this out? And what tests should I get done (std testing, tests for hyper-/hypo thyroidism, cancer screening)?
Avatar n tn Did they say the undectable was a negative result? If so your more than likely fine... I had a rna pcr test taken yesterday and I have to wait for result. . But experts are saying 3 month window is rare nowadays due to technology that we have... Dr. HHH says 4 week (28) is conclusive... or what I've read his posts... I'm very said aswell I said sex with a massage worker unprotected and 32 days larer I'm having a mild sore throat. ..
Avatar n tn 2- I tested negative 13 weeks after the incident, do you think it is confirm (during last 5 month I had sore throat and two days fever diarrhea and some headache nothing else of the HIV symptoms - I mean as what usually happening to me from time to time). 3- are the people who tested positive in the rare cases after six months are the people who are on drugs and who is taking medicine constantly such as the cancer patients and the people with some specific illness ?
Avatar m tn Ive seen people on this forum talk about warts in their mouth. Also, the alarming increase rate of oral and throat cancer related to HPV is something to take under consideration. I understand that Dr. H says he has not seen a single case, that does not mean it does not happen. I take the Doctors advice with a grain of salt. However , doing all those things you mentioned are a very good way of keeping healthy to clear the virus.
Avatar f tn My sister had thyroid cancer, niece has goiter, aunt died of throat cancer and brother has throat cancer. I just had blood work because suddenly in June I developed a temple pressure headache. The doctor put me on 25 mg of topamax and I had already been on Prozax 20 mg for 12 years. My eyes, nose, and everything else is dry to the point of I had to rush to the eye doctor (had extremely dry eye), nose sores that bleed, and now my hair is falling out.

331673 tn?1199354285 I was given a choice to either quit smoking and hope that we were early enough to have caught it, and hope that my throat repairs itself, or end up with throat cancer and all that goes with it. I quit smoking. My following check ups have been all good. I am LUCKY, because I didnt wait, I have lost to many friends and family to cancer, (on my husbands side even non smokers). So please dont wait, get to a Doctor. I may not be here today if I didnt Jump to it.
Avatar f tn It helped to calm my fears and he talks about the same article I read which states high strain hpv (not the kind causing warts but the kind causing cervical cancer) is now a big factor in the rise of throat cancer. According to him less than 5% of people with high strain develop throat cancer. I can rest a little better now. Thanks again.
Avatar n tn My husband has/ had throat cancer. He went through kemo and radiation. He is going to tested Fri. to see if treatment worked. He still has very bad breath. Also 2 other spots have shown up too. He also has a large lump on his leg.
Avatar n tn I suggest you see an Ear nose and throat specialist. They will be able to take a look in your nasal area as well as in your throat. So suggest to your family doctor you would like to see your local specialist.
Avatar m tn Hello I have been having some Throat Tightness, Its a feeling like a choking sensation, it doesn't bother me all of the time just every now and then. I am only 16 years old. Sometimes I have throat pain. I have had this a lot of my life, it comes and goes, sometimes it will stay away as long as a year or so, but somehow it manages to come back. Do you think that this could be some type of cancer of the throat? I did have a lot of sore throats when I was younger.
Avatar f tn Cancer runs in my family, as my Grandmother did have Throat cancer and is currently battling Lung Cancer. Her major symptom when she learned she had throat cancer was a sore throat every day. My throat does not hurt everyday, but it seems I just can't shake this out of my system. We have had a pretty cold and snowy winter, so maybe that has something to do with it. I am concerned as I am only 23 going on 24.
Avatar n tn Yes, Mandy, that is a possibility. Oral chlamydia is uncommon, but yes its a possibility. He would need to be tested and treated. Amazona - That's true, but that is a very rare cancer, as stated in the article. In the US, I think there are only about 40,000 diagnosed with this each year, and they are guessing that 10,000 of those are from oral HPV. I know some of this stuff is scary, but its important to keep it in perspective.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, I can't answer your question with a lot of specifics. We don't have transmission studies on HPV like we do herpes, so I can't give you stats on one time exposures, or likelihood of transmission from oral, etc. I can say that oral sex is generally lower risk for all STIs than vaginal or anal sex, and that while oral HPV is definitely possible, throat cancer remains rare.
Avatar m tn No reason to think they are hpv related either. Oral hpv typically presents differently and not on the tonsilar region. throat cancer at your age is also very low risk and not likely. definitely follow up with the ENT specialist if things aren't better by next week. as for your genital pain, it seems to be more random than constant and odds are it's not a std going on either at this point. should it get worse, see your provider for further testing.
Avatar n tn I have looked up pictures of strep throat and of oral cancer and it looks like cancer. I am scared that I have contracted hpv and now am developing orpharyngeal cancer. I also read about hiv causing most of oral problems and I was tested in March and came back negative. I also tested myself with an in home kit last month and it was negative. My question is what do I need to do in my next step? Go to a gyno? Ask for std testing? See an ent doc? See a cancer specialist? Get a shot for hpv?
Avatar m tn Diagnosis is the hardest thing, but remember, thyroid cancer is almost 100% curable. As a sibling, you should also be tested, after I found my cancer, my sister was tested and had the same, another sister is being watched.
Avatar m tn Hi. The kind of cancer screening procedures a 46 year old person should undergo depends on his sex, any previous personal history of cancer, the types of cancer the person's family has, and the presence of specific genetic syndromes in the family. For men, baseline screening for prostate cancer should be done at age 40 using both digital rectal examination (DRE) to feel for any overt masses, and Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), which is a blood test. An initial PSA value of at least 0.
