Avatar n tn A scan is the next step -- if the nodule is "hot" then FNA biopsy is not needed. The scan will help determine cause of hyperthyroidism. In meantime ask your doctor about beta-blockers to slow heart rate while waiting thyroid eval. FNA does not "spread cancer". This is a relatively sudden onset of a 3.4cm nodule - it could be thyroid inflammation (thyroiditis) with some bleeding into a pre-existing nodule/cyst.
Avatar f tn In terms of the types of HPV that can cause throat cancer, does anyone know what the approximate clearance rate is in men? Most of the studies I've looked into just talk about the clearance rate over a relatively short period of time, such as 6 months or a year. But I'm wanting to know what percentage of men clear these types of HPV on their own at some point in their lives, whether it be 6 months, 5 years, 10 years, etc.
Avatar m tn We have had her MRI done every 6 months to monitor the growth - and there has been no growth so far. Lately, she has reported phantom smells, and burning sensation in her throat and watery eyes whenever she has a blocked nose because of cold. I want to get an idea that - Do these new symptoms indicate that there might be growth in the tumor? The family's decision is to postpone the brain surgery for as long as possible, for all the risks involved.
Avatar n tn I am 36 yo male. 2 months ago I noticed a small white growth (omg) in my throat and I went to 2 ENT's told me its a papilloma and I can choose to remove it or leave it be as treatment is not medically necessary. I chose to remove it because I couldn't stop looking at it and the biopsy confirmed its a squamous papilloma most often associated with HPV. Two days after having it surgically removed I went to a gynaecologist to do oral HPV PCR test to see which type I had.
Avatar n tn Somebody I know with a tumor in her throat has recently been recommended to cut her hair shorter in order to siphon nutrition away from hair into more vital parts of her body. To me, this seems utterly nonsensical; hair is dead (and I've found that dead things don't require a whole lot of nutrition).
454046 tn?1244565593 Follicular cells are thyroid cells - so that alone does not need removal. The symptoms and growth rate however make surgery appropriate. If by "follicular cells" they meant "follicular lesion" then it's about a 20% chance cancer. If not, then it is 5% - give or take...
Avatar f tn If the nodule has grown then FNA should be done. Growth is most often benign and not cancer. Repeat ultrasound is the next step.
Avatar n tn Hi, Breast size bears no relationship to breast cancer or ability to nurse a baby. As you age ,the body's rate of metabolism slows down which tends to cause weight gain. Also if the diet is rich in fatty foods it tends to accumulate in fat deposits of the body. The breast tissue is predominantly fat cells. Reduce the amount of fat and excess carbohydrates in your daily diet to lose weight as well as reduce the breast size.

Avatar m tn 5 microg/kg per day) on the rate of growth of liver cancer cell line xenografts in nude mice was also investigated. In vitro, proliferation of Hep-3B, PLC/PRF/5, and SKHEP-1 cells was significantly inhibited by 1,25-(OH)2D3, while HTC and Novikoff cells were more resistant to the inhibitory effects of the drug. In vivo, treatment of SKHEP-1 tumor bearing nude mice with different doses of 1,25-(OH)2D3 significantly retarded tumor growth without the development of hypercalcemia.
Avatar f tn The doctor 1st thought it was a goiter but tests have shown that it's a form of cancer. Is this something that is easily removed & is there a history with these procedures? survival rate? This discussion is related to solid mass cancer?.
Avatar m tn It could be a number of things - acid reflux, scarring from surgery, re-growth of nodule/cancer (not likely) to name a few--- you should see your doctor to sort this out. From thyroid cancer standpoint, would do thyroglobulin panel and ultrasound to start.
Avatar f tn For roughly six months I have dealt with tonsil stones due to that,I am fairly aware of my tonsils. One day maybe 4 months ago,I noticed a a hard protrusion coming from my throat that was rubbing against my left Tonsil. It feels like bone at the base and hard cartilage at the top. It is slightly pointed. It is not painful and immovable at the base very slightly moveable at the top.
166039 tn?1256422867 I recently sound a little hoarse and clearing my throat a lot. How fast does lung cancer develop? I am supposed to wait 4 months to get this nodule looked at but I am still not feeling like myself. Should I call my doc and demand something else be done? Someone also told me that non-calcified nodules are not good to have. Any advice because I am worrying myself sick!

Avatar m tn Throat tenderness but not pain (more a feeling that something is there), constant need to clear throat but no coughing, dry feeling in throat, slight pain around jaw, ringing in ears, small round bump with warty temperance right next to uvula.
Avatar n tn It participates in these processes by producing thyroid hormones, the principal ones being triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). These hormones regulate the rate of metabolism and affect the growth and rate of function of many other systems in the body. T3 and T4 are synthesized from both iodine and tyrosine. The thyroid also produces calcitonin, which plays a role in calcium homeostasis.
Avatar f tn It can also be caused if your salivary glands, which are the glands that keep your mouth, tongue and throat moist, are not working well and this allows your throat to become very dry. It is not enough for the doctor to examine your throat, just by looking in your mouth. You should see an ENT specialist who can use an instrument called a fiberoptic laryngoscope to examine all areas of your nose and throat. This exam would be important to both find the cause and to give you peace of mind.
