Avatar n tn Thanks in advance, Lynn ___ Dear Lynn, Difficulty swallowing can be due to food sticking (called dysphagia) and pain with swallowing ( called odynophagia). You do not provide details regarding your age and concomitant illnesses, information that may facilitate the workup of your problem. Sometimes people will complain of difficulty swallowing if there is a sore tongue, ill-fitting dentures, oral infection or reduced production of saliva.
Avatar n tn For the last two or three months I have had to eat very, very small bites, wait between bites, and still sometimes it seems to back up in my throat. Swallowing liquids seems to be the worst. After eating I have thick saliva on my tongue, and this stuff in my throat caused my mouth to produce excess saliva so I swallow and swallow (kind of like when you are going to vomit). Once or twice a day now this saliva comes back up.
Avatar f tn At times the food gets stuck in my throat, it causes a lot of pain in my sternum area and I begin to choke and gag. I can actually feel my throat force the food back up into my mouth. I have also experienced from time to time my throat going very dry and causing me to start to gag to the point of almost vomiting I take a deep breath and have to concentrate in order to not vomit.
Avatar n tn thank you.
Avatar f tn For the past three days, I've had the feeling of something being stuck in my throat and I've had difficulty swallowing. If I'm eating or drinking it's fine, but I feel like I have to put in extra effort when I'm just swallowing saliva. I haven't taken any pills recently and haven't eating anything that I believe would irritate my throat. My dad did use Endust for my laptop and after I used it, my hands and lips (I have a tendency to touch my lips often) felt bitter.
Avatar f tn For the past 24 hours I've been having difficulty with swallowing. I've had this issue before, but it usually comes on in the evening or when I'm going to sleep. But this time it's been an entire day and not getting better. The symptoms of this are- Food and drink are only mildly hard to get down. The real difficulty is the swallowing when not eating/drinking. I guess it's a reflex? Something I don't really notice usually, like blinking.
Avatar n tn Such tests include a video-swallowing study of the muscles in the mouth and throat, barium esophogram, and sometimes assessment by a physician specializing in speech and swallowing pathology. If the problem is not in the throat, the function of the esophagus can (and should) be assessed by an esophageal manometry study, where the pressure and motility (contractile function) are determined. Lastly, as you probably know, reflux disease can cause swallowing difficulties.
346570 tn?1267500027 When I first started with the panic, I remember feeling something at the back of my throat. It bothered me so much that I took a flashlight to my throat and realized it was my large uvula! Try not to focus on your throat or swallowing. The more you focus on it, the more aware of it you become and thus starts the cycle. Easier said, than done, I know.
Avatar m tn Have difficulty when swallowing solids and occasionally liquids. Food seems to get stuck, liquid usually helps, yet sometimes does'nt and can cause coughing and choking. Friend said he had similiar symptoms and had a growth in his throat (ring of tissue) discovered through endoscopy. He does'nt know what it was called, but said his Doctor performed some sort of procedure to break the growth, allowing food to pass more freely.
Avatar n tn I have been having difficulty swallowing for a few months (food particles sticking in throat regularly) and having to swallow several times to get them down. I also have thick throat mucus. My maternal grandfather died of ALS but all 4 of his children are in their 60's and have no symptoms yet. I feel like I trip on my right foot more often than the average person. I am concerned about the source of my swallowing problems!!
Avatar f tn I had cardiac bypass surgery in NYC over a year ago.. It took a long time- about 13- months before my swallowing was 'normal.' My advice to you is to see ear nose and throat doctor that specializes in swallowing and voice disorders. In NYC they have an in office test using an instrument called FEESST which allows them to observe the swallowing process in real time using a fiber optic scope.. This will give you the answer to your problem .
Avatar f tn During a Modified Barium Swallow it was determined my muscles in my throat are not working and neither is my epiglottis. My tongue is also extremely weak toward the back of my throat. Are there several neurological diseases that can cause this diagnosis? I also have extreme weakness in my extremities and my foot drags on the right side. I also have a tremor of the right hand and arm. If you shed any light on this diagnosis I would certainly appreciate it.
Avatar f tn The last few weeks I have found my eating has slowed right down in terms of pace as I have been a lot more conscious about swallowing and haven't been able to swallow as freely as normal. Yesterday I decided to look in my mouth and I notice that I have a lump at the back of my throat. I had my tonsils taken out when I was younger, but they always said that some has been left behind in the scar tissue.
277836 tn?1359666174 Thank you, for posting such a complete list of stress and anxiety symptoms ! I have severe anxiety, and panic attacks... and have recently been diagnosed as "cardiophobic" - ie I am irrationally afraid of having a heart attack (despite being a female in my mid 30s). Every one of these symptoms, I have experienced at one time or another.
Avatar m tn These happen at end of my throat... And also I observed I started snowing after these issues came. I used to smoke 3 times a day... Does anyone has any idea about this symptoms ?? Is it a serious problem ??? Please help me out...
Avatar n tn Hello I'm a 17 year old male 5'9 144lbs, I have been having issues breathing and major problems swallowing for the past few days, I went to the ER, the guy there thought I was crazy, after that I went to another ER, they said I had strep throat, I didn't have *any* symptoms of strep throat (it was confirmed that I don't have it by the third ER).
Avatar n tn You will need to consult your primary care physician who will examine your throat and may ask for some tests like barium swallow or endoscopy to determine the cause for difficulty in swallowing. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn The common causes for pain while swallowing are inflamed tonsils and GERD. Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is caused due to reflux of acid from the stomach into the esophagus. It could also be due to disorders of the esophagus. You will need to consult your primary care physician who will examine your throat and may ask for some tests like barium swallow or endoscopy to determine the cause for pain while swallowing. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Simply, honestly I went through a time of just not eating, and then have spent 3 and a half years being sick numerous times every day. Now, I can't swallow properly, and my throat feels like it is clogged ALL the time, and it's stopping me sleeping, and it's really uncomfortable, and is worrying me loads! I'm worried that it might be my own fault, and I don't know what to do. It's also really interfering with my singing.
