A lunar eclipse takes place when the sun, earth and moon are all perfectly aligned with the Earth in the middle. When the moon passes behind the earth, the sun's rays are blocked from striking the moon. This can only occur when the moon is full. Unlike a solar eclipse, which can only be seen for a few moments from any specific spot, a lunar eclipse can be viewed for several hours. The eclipse will happen Monday night on the West Coast and during the early hours Tuesday on the East Coast.

A National Geographic (fairly reliable I would say!) article I just read said it is the third in four with the last eclipse being at the end of September with the four combined being called a tetrad. I wouldn't worry too much. Thanks for mentioning it but we already survived two others! I have heard of hurricanes effecting pregnancy but we dont have to worry about those just yet! Have you ever seen Vitreous liquefication caused by the sun/eclipse? I wondered if the irritation/inflammation from looking at the eclipse resulted in the Vitreous syneresis. The opthalmologist and retina specialist have said there are no signs of inflammation or damage to the retina by the sun. It just seems odd that this all happened after the eclipse. Advice to all:. Never look at the sun, even for a few seconds! What are your thoughts on this Dr. Hagan.

The night of an eclipse you have to lay down for two hours but it can't be on your side? Interesting... My husband is VERY Superstitious...if a black cat even comes near him, he walks backwards for days! LOL So did you have to wear red all day or just when the eclipse happens? I might have to throw something red on now! Just a red shirt or are you decked out in red??

Just kidding I watch too many vampire wearwolf shows. I am not sure about an eclipse but I live in southern Ontario and we have been able to see the northern lights last few days which is pretty amazing.

Google. Based on your location, some places are in the morning (the Americas), some places are in the evening (Asia). Europe will not be able to view the eclipse.

m not so sure what the eclipse means in other culture but in the Hispanic culture (which is very spurious) we believe that the eclipse has enough power to harm our baby..we believe that the eclipse could "eat" pieces of the baby..and by eat I mean damage parts, like the ears, toes, lips, noise..so we wrap red string around our bellies and pin safety pins on our bra..thats supposed to ward off the rays of the eclipse from the baby...

I've heard of this but I don't believe it. It's basically a superstition, an ancient belief dating back as early as the Aztecs! They believed that an eclipse was 'a bite on the face of the moon' so if a mum watched the eclipse the same would happen to her baby - e.g a birth defect such as cleft lip. Apparently, a mother must carry something metallic - a safety pin on underwear is a common precaution. The red thing is also very common, underwear or some sort of red ribbon....

I cut vegetable..and didnt stay indoor..was out in the garden..just now I remembered that we had an eclipse today..my hubby is totally mad at me fr frgting it..

& the eclipse was in the morning like at 1am & it stopped at 5am there no eclipse tonight

I agree with the eclipse situation I hate negative superstitions like that I want to hear positive things only this is my first I have enough running through my mind about parent hood and labour I really cant hear anything negative right now

Absolutely ridiculous. Obviously, the Aztecs did not the OB knowledge that we have today. Just like at one time people thought the earth was flat. A cleft lip will form during organogenesis which is mid 1st trimester.

It's a Mexican thing, goes back to the Aztecs and their beliefs back in the day in ancient times. I wore a pin and key on me for the solar eclipse that happened today just to be safe.

Wear something red for the rest of the day.

Nothing will happen to your baby because of what you wear or don't wear or carry or use or where you go during an eclipse. We really do live in the 21st century and don't burn witches at the stake anymore. Holding a knife won't injure your unborn fetus. I guarantee you that wearing a safety pin on your clothing will not increase or decrease risk of cleft lip or cleft palate. And birthmarks don't come from the moon.

I'm going with myth here. The reason: if expecting during an eclipse caused cleft lip or disfigurement, then all babies ever born following an eclipse would have said malformation. Obviously, this is not the case or else thousands of mothers all over the world would have all had babies like this within months of each other. Don't let those stories scare you!!!
