Avatar n tn Metformin may contribute to weight loss in some diabetics.(11) However, weight loss does not appear to be one of its primary benefits. Glucophage may also be of some value improving success with in vitro fertilization, lowering cholesterol, and improving energy.
583580 tn?1231136383 I do cardio and I try to lift weights but theres my problem. Everytime I start a lifting program even though its low weight more reps I gain mass. This frustrates me cause it doesnt go away. I dont lose inches or weight I get bigger. Whenever this happens I stop lifting cause I dont want to get bigger. I know they say that a woman cant get bigger because she just doesnt produce the same hormones as a man but why would I be gaining mass if this were so.
Avatar f tn Yes, weight gain is common and changes to body shape (even without weight gain) due to the loss of pelvic integrity from severed ligaments is a given. And unfortunately, no drug or supplement can adequately replace what was taken from the body. Granted, there may be some things that help but there is no true replacement. That is why it is such a travesty that hysterectomy and oophorectomy are grossly overused and women are not told the medically documented aftereffects.
Avatar f tn Long term pain management with opiates cause sexual dysfunction of 50% of all patients, both men and women. It causes testosterone deficiencies in both men and women, which is called hypogonadism. Docs are supposed to monitor testosterone levels, but seldom do because the topic just doesn't come up in the Doctors office. It's not just men that need to worry either, in fact it's of critical importance to women. Check it out, there's a lot more to read: pain-topics.
Avatar m tn Only one mentioned him and the fact that he does all the tests and knows how to treat with all hormones. All other women never mentioned testosterone as part of the equation.( 35 women all menopausal) I completely trust my doctor on regards to the thyroid affecting the sex hormones. He's been practicing for over 26 years. A lot of the information he tells me is not available on line, no surprise!
Avatar n tn Due to 8 day periods acne ,weight and hair loss the Physician ordered some labs. Her TSH was 4.9 and testosterone 98. What should we do next? Is there a relationship between the two? She was a soy formula baby due to colic. She had alot of ear infections as a child and had a T&A at 4. She has had sinus infections every year. Also over the years she has complained of pain behind her knees and pain in her fingers. This year she had a short duration which appeared like trigger finger.
Avatar m tn Body fat contains aromatase, an enzyme that converts testosterone into estrogens, the female sex hormone in women. Having extra estrogens triggers your body to slow its production of testosterone. And the less testosterone you make, the more belly fat you accumulate and the more estrogens you have. Researchers have also targeted midriff weight as the strongest predictor of a condition called symptomatic androgen deficiency, or AD.
Avatar m tn Do you guys have any explanation for the weight loss and reduction in testosterone levels? The loss in testosterone and weight is very large given the time span. What are some suggestions? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
Avatar m tn Her Doctor could test her hormones and see if the testosterone level is in the normal female range. Weight gain, loss of energy and sex drive all sound like abnormally low testosterone levels. I'm reading between the lines but if you are concerned about the penis she probably is too. Some TS people simply can't afford the full procedure so I think you might want to look at insurance that covers it or setting up a savings plan.
Avatar f tn I am a larger woman and struggle with weight loss, doctors in the past have put me on contraception to regulate my periods as trying for a baby, but then as soon as I stop they stop. Myself and my partner haven’t used protection for the last 3 years in hope of conceiving however nothing has happened. Could I have PCOS? How do I go about being tested for it?
Avatar m tn Your testosterone is apparently in the normal range. How do you know that this is low for your age? Also, losing weight only benefits can bring to you if you have it in excess. So, you mean here that you have 100 pounds more than normal for your age and height? That sounds to be a lot, especially combined with a sedentary job. Regardless of testosterone considerations, losing weight is a no-brainer in your case.
Avatar f tn t until your 26. They told me my weight was to blame but how can that be wen women every day much larger than I concieve every day? Please I need advice as I just got married and we want very much to have a little one of our own as I have a son and he has a son.
393685 tn?1425812522 Androgens secreted by the adrenals provide the majority of DHEA for both men and women. For women, the adrenal glands are the major source of testosterone. Imbalances in the adrenal system can contribute to problems with the nervous and immune systems, body composition difficulties, blood sugar irregularities, and high androgen levels.
Avatar f tn How is your estrogen and your DHEA-S? When your doc tests your testosterone, does he test bio-available testosterone, and does the doc test sex binding hormones, LH, FSH, to get the entire pic of your androgens and how your body is using the testosterone? Estrogen and testosterone and very very closely related - so it could be that your testosterone is simply converting over to estrogen instead of staying as testosterone. This cannot be controlled really - it just happens.

Avatar m tn The more I researched about the possibility of weight loss and HCV treatment meds, I knew it would be the kind of weight loss I did not want if it happened to me. So far, I am not responding to the meds as well (virologically) as I would like- but I still have the sides. As we all know - a lot of sides will happen no matter what. Try a Google search on amino acid Glutamine (L-Glutamine).
Avatar m tn So far the medications have worked for me, but it is important to discuss it with your doctor. Although there is no cure, it can be managed. Weight loss has also helped me. It's tougher to lose with PCOS, but possible.
Avatar f tn Why would you be given estrogen with elevated estrogen? My reasons for weight gain/difficulty losing weight were severe insulin resistance and untreated hypothyroidism. My hip to waist ratio was 0.96 due to insulin resistance.
Avatar f tn If you are overweight, which is pretty common with this condition, then weight loss (does not need to be much, often just 5%-10% does the trick) often helps normalize periods. If weight loss does not work, or you are unable to lose weight, or are not overweight, then you will probably need medication. Regarding your concern that medication will mess your system up more, this is not the case. The irregular periods are not due to medication, and are neither made worse nor cured by medication.
