1139187 tn?1355706647 With men, the issue of concern is testosterone deficiency, while with women the concern is excess testosterone production. A total testosterone may be ordered prior to or along with a SHBG test. In women, small amounts of testosterone are produced by the ovaries and adrenal glands. Even slight increases in testosterone production can disrupt the balance of hormones and cause symptoms such as lack of menstruation (amenorrhea), infertility, acne, and male pattern hair growth (hirsutism).
594189 tn?1386916607 Even slight increases in testosterone production can disrupt the balance of hormones and cause symptoms such as amenorrhea, infertility, acne, and hirsutism. These symptoms and others are often seen with polycystic ovarian syndrome, a condition characterized by an excess production of androgens. SHBG and testosterone testing may be useful in helping to detect and evaluate excess testosterone production and/or decreased SHBG concentrations.
Avatar m tn Having extra estrogens triggers your body to slow its production of testosterone. And the less testosterone you make, the more belly fat you accumulate and the more estrogens you have. Researchers have also targeted midriff weight as the strongest predictor of a condition called symptomatic androgen deficiency, or AD. It's marked by low libido, erectile dysfunction, osteoporosis, depressed mood, lethargy, and diminished physical performance.
Avatar f tn I never Said that it would be caused by low testosterone but that it’s associated with it. A varicocele can impact testicular growth and hormone production.
Avatar f tn How low were your testosterone levels when they were low? Have you tested again since the project is over? One thing to note, is that this can be dangerous to women if they are pregnant or breastfeeding, so if any of your partners are breastfeeding or pregnant, you shouldn't use it. They shouldn't even touch it on your skin. It's designed to use daily for men with low testosterone, and all the studies were done of men with that condition.
Avatar m tn The reason for this as I understand it is that the single dose of cream/gel/injection is high enough burst, that the pituitary gland senses the high level of Testosterone, and then believes that there is PLENTY of testosterone, so it reduces the LH and FSH to shut your testicles down of production. And virtually ANY amount of outside testosterone is enough to flip the switch in the Pituitary and shut down testicle production.
135456 tn?1301437624 re a man using prescription opioids to treat chronic pain, you may be at a higher risk for having low testosterone. The use of certain pain medications, such as opioids, may decrease the production of testosterone. A study published in the Journal of Pain showed that up to 74% of men using opioids for treatment of chronic pain have low testosterone. I just ran across this and found it very interesting.
Avatar f tn Vitamin A is important in testosterone production. Good sources of this in a healthy diet are the dark green leafy vegetables, salmon, and red and orange fruits and vegetables. Salmon has an added benefit in that it reduces a chemical in the blood stream called sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG). When testosterone encounters SHBG in the blood it is effectively mopped up and taken out of circulation. If you are trying to increase your testosterone there are certain foods you should avoid.
Avatar f tn t for me so I stopped ,even tho I only took it twice and stopped early ,will it still surpress my natural testosterone production? If so how long till it kick starts again?
Avatar m tn The nurse said that this was good enough for IVF treatment. At this point I was on testosterone (sustanon) injections after coming off Testogel which I had been using on and off for 4 months. In February 2010 I had Stereotatic Radio Surgery (after not freezing my sperm as my consultant believed it would all be ok). I was also starting on the new Nabido (testosterone) injection. I went back for a further sample in June 2010 and there was no sperm at all. My FSH level was 0.
Avatar m tn Explain it as a hormonal disorder, a mismatch between your body structure and its chemistry Your body is structurally unprepared to handle the chemicals (hormones) that it produces, and this causes a wide range of problems. For someone who's already testosterone-dominant, an equivalent disorder would involve reducing testosterone production and increasing estrogen production in his body.
1462489 tn?1285945325 Testosterone production is controlled by the following negative feedback loop. Restoring Vitamin D to normal levels may help increase LH production which signals the testes to make testosterone. Read more at http://www.************.com/boards/showthread.php?
Avatar m tn You need a prescription, and before that a testosterone test, taken early in the morning, before breakfast. If you have normal testosterone and start on the gell, your testicles will lower production, so it doesn't do much good.
623156 tn?1322865851 Research has shown with 15 mgs a day in men it can increase semen and testosterone production, in women it can help ovulation and fertility. Natural resources of Zinc are fish, oysters, crab, turkey, chicken and beef. In the newsletter it was mentioned that there have been conflicting opinions about fertility boosting foods. I'm the ultimate optomist. It's seems to be a more wholistic approach. I would check with your dr and see what she or he has to say.
Avatar f tn Hypothyroidism may be more common in PCOS -- which is what you appear to have. Testosterone production from the ovary is increased by insulin resistance. Metabolism tends to be sluggish -- but not due to the thyroid. Metformin usually induces 5-7 pound weight loss in these cases, but I have not dealt with this issue for many years so there may be more up to date data. If thyroid levels normal, looks like thyroid is ok at this point.
Avatar m tn Spoke with my Urologist who prescribed phenlyephiprine to self inject - works, but erection returns after returning to sleep. He also put me on Lupron which stopped my testosterone production - worked best, but hate the side effects on no testosterone. Is there anything I can do for this w/o being on Lupron? Is there a way to perhaps lower my testosterone w/o stopping production? HELP PLS I WANT TO SLEEP SOOOOOO BAD.

Avatar n tn I am aware that drug and alcohol use inhibits testosterone production. I used to be an abuser, but have not binge drank or used illicit drugs in over 18 months. This discussion is related to testosterone threapy/prozac.
Avatar n tn With regards to your low testosterone levels, have you been evaluated along this line? Low testosterone may be due to several factors including underlying systemic conditions such as hormonal disorders caused by problems in the pituitary, mumps and previous trauma or injury to the area. The best treatment is to identify the cause of the decreased testosterone levels and have this cause treated or managed. In your case would you know what could have caused the decrease in testosterone levels?
