Common Questions and Answers about Testosterone in dogs

Avatar m tn I have been experiencing low testosterone myself and I have read a great deal on the importance of testosterone in the male. My male dog is fixed. He is 3 years old and seems very healthy. But i've begun to worry about his testosterone levels and how it effects his health. Is there a natural way to support my dogs testosterone levels. Any thoughts?
Avatar m tn What??? You have fighting dogs or what??!!
Avatar n tn It's about 90 days I think, that the male dog would still be able to sire pups after neutering. I think it is something to do with residual sperm (though how they live that long is, to me, a mystery) I know a male dog who was neutered about 5 years ago. He is still capable of mating fully, though of course he would not now be fertile. But he can certainly do it! So it seems there is still some testosterone in his system, even though he's 'firing blanks'!
Avatar m tn I think there is little or no humping in this case, but he labradoodle did hump a neutered larger golden retriever in the past. The Golden R. has passed away and was both older and bigger, yet the labradoodle what the most inclined to hump. Here I think the lines of the black labradoodle are from more aggressive dogs, has more of a need to dominate.
Avatar f tn Potatoes are ok for dogs too. But it might be best not to give him a food which is high in saturated fat. Go for good protein, like beef, chicken, venison, rabbit, sardines, tuna, and omega oils, and carbs. Because I live in England, we have different dog foods over here, so I can't recommend a food for you to try. But with a little research, maybe you could find a suitable food.
Avatar f tn I found out in 2019 I had low testosterone (0.6) and high SHBG (134), still same numbers as of June this year. Back in 2019, A doctor prescribed me AndrolGel. After a week or two into the treatment I had insane heart palpitations, high BP’s, dizzyness, sweating, headaches, the works pretty much. After a month or two of ER visits and doctors telling me it’s not the AndrolGel, I stopped it. Told me everyone has testosterone in their body speech. My dosage was 1 sachet of 2.5gm 1% twice a week.
Avatar m tn So um.... I'm here because I had this big cyst on my thyroid, but I also have central hypogonadism. It's my impression that doctors in general for psychological reasons really really want to ignore hypogonadism. Anything but that. Also doctors are often very confused and mixed up beliefs. For instance, early pregnancy will stop a young women's growth because of hormones.
Avatar n tn I'd like to know what my blood test results may mean. I've taking diet pills (ephedrine/caffeine) for a few years. In last year my endurance has decline. About 8 months ago I started noticing Fatigue, memory problems, body aches and problems maintaining erections. I started taking pregnenolone and 7-keto DHEA thinking it would increase testosterone. I finally went to my doctor 2 1/2 months ago. He ordered blood tests.
Avatar f tn Yes, one thing some people forget is neutered male dogs can be quite active sexually! As years go by, and the testosterone levels drop WAY down, their sexiness goes downhill. But on many occasions I have seen a complete mating "tie" happen with a female on heat and a neutered male. But apart from the sexual thing -amongst dogs, often the humping behaviour signifies dominance.
Avatar m tn I have read a lot about dogs wetting themselves after being neutered as a result of a lack of testosterone being produced. could this possibly be the issue? what treatment should i seek??
1139187 tn?1355706647 I was just curious to know if any of the guys in the group have testosterone issues and are you currently under treatment for this as well?
Avatar f tn Dont let your dogs be too close to the baby and dont leave your dogs alone with your baby. Get your dogs in a good consistent routine of feeding, exercising, and down time. That will help them adjust to when your baby is here and you wont have all time to focus on them.
Avatar n tn In fact, they could cause him to have a certain amount of stress and tension caused by high testosterone in his system, which could make him restless at times, or even possibly competitive with other dogs. Remove that, and he will be more relaxed. But.....it will not alter his basic character as far as I have experienced, in any way. And as for weight gain -there is usually one reason for that: too much food/wrong food plus too little exercise.
Avatar m tn Hello, Microscopic hematuria can be due to urinary tract (bladder) infection, swelling in the filtering system of the kidneys, stone in bladder or in a kidney, blood disease, like sickle cell anemia, certain medicines and tumors in the urinary tract. Also the causes of low testosterone can be primary, secondary or tertiary and all the causes need to be ruled out.
Avatar m tn It seemed to me that the low testosterone was a contributing factor and maybe starting testosterone therapy it would give me the boost to start exercising and eat better. The doctor stated a second testosterone was necessary to validate the low level and that the insurance companies would not also a prescription without a second low testosterone confirmation. The doctor ordered a second testosterone level along with prolactin and LH.
Avatar m tn My baby has Atypical Cushing's and is being treated with melatonin and lignans; she has been on this treatment protocol for 2 yrs. with consistent improvement until this last test in 10/10. Her Androstenedione is really elevated bringing the progesterones up with it (and probably testosterone as well tho it wasn't included in the assay). Her cortisol is within normal range, tho it is creeping up; estradiol and aldosterone are normal.
Avatar f tn Since the tumors are not showing up readily, is there a test that would better pinpoint them to allow removal of only part of the ovary perhaps? Is appearance of tumors secreting testosterone in both ovaries simultaneously illogical in any way? Thanks!
Avatar n tn Recently, I was diagnosed with low testosterone (Total and Free = 289 with range 250-1100 and % free testosterone = 1.35 with range 1.5 - 2.2). I realize that low testosterone can play a factor in decreased sexual urges or libido, but can the converse be true? That is, can a dull relationship (sexually speaking) actually cause your testosterone to diminish? Thank you!
Avatar n tn He has never been abused and is never left alone for more than a few hours per day. Could high testosterone be causing this aggressiveness or or was he born "wired wrong"?
