Common Questions and Answers about Testosterone for perimenopause

Avatar f tn s it declines more rapidly until it ceases. During perimenopause our hormone levels (Estrogen, Progesterone, and Testosterone) decrease, and ovulation slowly begins to come to an end... If you're interested in becoming pregnant, my advice would be to start keeping track of your ovulation and menstrual cycles now. Also consult your Ob/Gyn if you have any concerns. The healthier and better shape you're in will definitely influence any possible pregnancy and transition into menopause...
Avatar m tn I am 50 yrs old have been in perimenopause for several months now. I had a period for 24 days then I was off for about 2 weeks and on again for 2 days then off again for a couple weeks. I started bleeding very heavily 2 days ago and passed a large amount of clots over those two days. The bleeding has now subsided but I am having some very uncomfortable pain. Is this normal?
Avatar m tn Premature menopause is not unheard-of, however. Also, perimenopause can go on for ten years before menopause, so that would bring the age down to 41 for the beginning of perimenopause. At 39, I would take a pregnancy test if you have been sexually active, and if it comes up negative, I would suspect an ovarian cyst before thinking it is menopause.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your reply. I am scheduled for a pelvic ultrasound soon, so hopefully that will determine whether or not there is anything anatomically wrong. Thank you again.
Avatar n tn There are several that are very accurate, I like the saliva test, it tests for progesterone, estrogen, DHEA, testosterone and cortisol. You can also have blood drawn for the same, but, the blood is only a "snapshot" of what is going on at that moment.
Avatar f tn I am not sure what you are asking? Once your period stops for one year you are considered in menopause but a lot of the symptoms that you get during perimenopause should subside. Are you still having a lot of symptoms 11 years past your last period? But yes once your period stops it won't start back up again. .
Avatar f tn I spoke to my doctor about it and he prescribed a 2% Testosterone cream. I worried about the the side effects (acne and facila hair). What else can I do? I'm too young for menopause and I haven't had a hysteroctomy so I can't figure out the problem. Any ideas or suggestions?
Avatar f tn ) I was apprehensive about taking hormones (estrogen) and my doctor told me he had success with something new that was being done and it was a very very small dose of testosterone. It hardly looks like there is anything in the syringe but I get it everything 3 weeks and my hot flashes are gone! If I don't get them, they come right back.
Avatar f tn Beyond that high SHBG is also caused by oral contraceptives. High SHBG can cause low free testosterone, which is necessary for hormone balance (weight gain, the hot flashes, libido, energy, etc). That could be a huge part of your problem. Your thyroid hormones actually look okay. TSH is good, but that's not a thyroid hormone; it's a pituitary hormone that stimulates the thyroid. Your FT4 is good.
Avatar n tn You need to get individual testing on estrodiol - Progesterone and Testosterone ( for sure ) levels done - An FSH - LS panel will probably range out for you under the follicular phase. I am going to bet that your TSH will come back pretty low with that amount of thyroid hormones coming in and that could be causing the cycle problems for you - Could it cause Progest - to sky rocket - That I am not sure.
975514 tn?1324997938 I just was diagnosed by my doctor with low testosterone, progesterone and DHEA. What causes this? Does anyone here know? I wasn't sure in which forum to post such a question. I have suffered a miscarriage in the past (6 years ago) and am fairly sure it has something to do with this. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
237053 tn?1258828426 s body, since we have different hormones. (except for different amounts of testosterone.) Good old testosterone gives us part our sex drive. Skarey, you bring up a very interesting and exciting subject. Just think, this may hold a treatment to MS that stops it totally in it's tracks. I am anxious to hear how other's comment. Thank Skarey, dearheart....
Avatar f tn m doing labs for FSH and testosterone every 3 weeks. The bioidentical creams I use from Womens International Pharmacy are really good, more superior than stuff you buy over the counter. Because I have put off going to a good doctor for the hormones , thinking it was just perimenopause and "will get better" or even out when I'm at menopause, my symptoms got so bad I could barely function. According to labs I'm really close to menopause.
Avatar f tn i really can relate to what you are going through. 14mths ago i was a regular happy 41yr old mum of 2, then, suddenly my periods started every coming every 18 days. I began having panic attack, palpitations, constantly feeling hot, i got very emotional and i started putting on weight. I saw numerous docs who put it down to stress. I have been told that when i cant sleep or having a panic attack, turn on the computer and read about perimenopause.
Avatar n tn I have been bleeding for 28 days now. It has not been a heavy flow until this last weekend. Three days ago I began passing clots and having heavy bleeding. I feel worn out. I went to Kaiser and had a blood test. I am not anemic. I feel like I am not being listened to or taken seriously. They wanted me to take progesterone in heavy doses. Is this normally the only soloution? Or are they just doing their usual minimum treatment?
402156 tn?1201638074 I wanted what my body made for years and years and I wanted to balance out the little bit of estrogen I was using, too. And,...thank goodness for the testosterone....does more than help with libido. I have to go to bed....I am a night owl but have to get up very early. I will check posts tomorrow.
Avatar f tn Remember, too, that Surgical menopause alone can do a number on you. Granted, not everyone will suffer the same symptoms, but when you think that Estrogen alone is responsible for over 400 functions in the body and now in Surgical menopause (regular menopause allows for at least diminished estrogen and testosterone until you hit the 70's and 80's.) you have no supply from the ovaries (body fat and adrenals take over production to a certain extent).
Avatar f tn i have just gave blood samples for SHBG but i dont know if the testosterone test is for bio-available or not, my doc not up to scratch on this hormone thing and my endo is all for keeping ;me in the dark, i wish i knew more about the whole system. I am on 50mg of DHEA DAILY which makes no difference at all and on fluoextine 30 mg and the testosterone patch but nothing seems to make any difference. moods are all over the place and depression can set in occassionally as nothing seems to change.
864502 tn?1382640699 I was told a couple of months ago that I am going through perimenopause. I have irregular cycles. My 1st cycle was when I was 15 years old. I had one cycle in September and it did not come back the next month. I took birth control pills when I was 16....The 1st set of pills made me gain weight and the 2nd set made me sick. So now my cycles are 2-5 years apart. The last cycle I had was in May 2007.
594293 tn?1222655980 lightheadedness (sometimes it lasts for days), feeling jittery or nervous, mood swings, chills, nausea, change in appetite and bowel habits, irregular periods (still monthly though).....that's the majority of it. It had not even occurred to me that it could be perimenopause until a few weeks ago. I went for blood work yesterday so I won't hear results until next week.

Avatar n tn ve been having ovulation pain for the last 3 years or so - 2/3 days of cramping in mid cycle and then again just before my period started. I thought this might mean I'm perimenopausal, since change is the cycle may precede menopause by several years. In the last few months, the pains became stronger and they cramping lasts longer, sometimes from ovulation until menstruation, sometime accompanied by nausea. Occasionally I'd feel a twinge of pain in one of my ovaries.
Avatar f tn I'm 44 and have been very irregular with my periods for the last few years. I'm on the pill (Yaz) and never miss any. I'm still irregular on the pill even though my GYN put me on it to try and regulate me. I sometimes get my period during the "active" pills and not during the "inactive" pills. My cycle would last anywhere from 3 days to 14 days and would be very light to severe. The last day of my last period was May 1st. I haven't had a period since then.
Avatar f tn after 30 odd years of having 1 or 2 periods a year due to pcos, i have been having a period every 18 days for the last 9 months. Im also having bad headaches and bad palpitations too (worse before my period), the thing is, ive had the usual heart test and hormones checked and all is normal! How would pcos afect my hormones and does it make a difference in perimenopause?
377493 tn?1356502149 I have always been a 28 day girl. For as long as I have been tracking ovulation, I o around day 13 or 14. Some of you know from my last post that I have started having strong symptoms around ovulation...sore breasts, bloating, crabby..lol, etc. This month those symptoms lasted right up until I got AF. Today is cycle day 3, they went away yesterday completely. I know this is due to increased progesterone, but am wondering if you think it might be a symptom of perimenopause.
