1139187 tn?1355706647 I have Very high SHGB and very low testosterone. My dr said much of my testosterone is bound and can not be used. High SHGB is probably from long term use of birth control pills. I am switching birth control pills to the lowest estrogen kind to see if it helps. I may quit taking them at the end of the year. I'm not sure how SHGB and testosterone effect my thyroid, but wonder if birth control pills have been an issue in balancing out my thyroid.
Avatar f tn Other causes could be polycystic ovarian syndrome, diseases of pituitary gland, hormonal imbalance of estrogen and progesterone and uterine abnormalities like fibroid and cervical dysplasia. Your doctor may consider tests like serum HCG, blood sugar levels, thyroid function test, prolactin, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSA), estrogen, and testosterone.
Avatar m tn I also suffer from central obesity, have striae in abdominal area, hirsutism and slightly increased testosterone and low transferrin. The low transferrin worries me because I remember being 10 years old and having a depression on my thumb nail. I had no idea what is was and I now think it could of been koilonychia. I am also always cold and I went to donate blood at 23 yr. old, and a needle stick to test for iron was given to me. I was told I had low Fe and could not give blood at that time.
Avatar f tn First, it began with pelvic pain and lead to menstrual irregularity (my menstruation would not stop for 5 months). I was put on BCP - Ortho-Tri - and it stopped my 24/7 menstruation more or less, but not the pelvic pain. Plus, BCP makes my moods highly irregular and my hair to fall out in chunks. I got off BCP after 3 months of crazy side effects and my hair loss/mood swings/bloat went away. But my menstruation got crazy again. I was then put on Synthroid (0.25 at first, then up to 0.
Avatar m tn Hello, Given your symptoms of irregular periods and hair growth on face (hirsutism), it can be PCOS. Diagnostic tests are 2 hr GTT,serum androgen and testosterone levels,LH-FSH ratio, prolactin levels,TSH levels,17-hydroxyprogesterone levels and 3D ultrasound done. One of the most effective treatments is use of contraceptive pills or progesterone pills. It can also be treated surgically and this procedure is known as drilling. Try losing weight as it helps a lot to normalize menstruation.

Avatar m tn It's not just a problem with menstruation and it's not "solvable". You can reduce symptoms, sometimes, by getting exercise and eating right (or losing 10% or more of your weight if you're overweight). I would highly recommend asking your doctor more about polycystic ovarian syndrome - or even researching it on the internet.
Avatar m tn I think now that we really have to ask for a substitute prescription it's just that they say, the medicine in Qatar(that's where she is, now) are not as effective as what we have in Philippines so we're quite hesitant. Hehe. But I think it's the best thing to do. I'm sorry I didn't mention this earlier, as I wasn't not very sure about it, but I could recall that it has something to do with follicles.

988694 tn?1332359479 It was a woman doctor that suggested testing this with my thyroid panel and glucose the same time. Low testosterone in men can create muscle pain, my problem - I had no idea. She new the possibilities of low thyroid effecting all of these. In my case she was right. Free Testosterone levels increased only after thyroid levels did. And my glucose went down, but I have to watch it. So after four months, it was fine, keep in mind I'm also close to 44. 5 or 6 months seems like a while.
Avatar f tn I am having unprotected sex everyday(2x a day) from the day my period stopped(9/28) till (10/22). have irregular period and i believe my menstruation will start on 10/21, it's 25 today and still my period ain't coming but I found a very light brownish mucus from my panty. Avatar f tn I am a 32 year old afro-caribbean woman. My periods started when I was 13yrs old and were abnormal (missed mths). At 18years old they started to get very light and eventually stopped. I have visitd many doctors who took test and placed me on birth control pills which did bring it back but as soon as I stopped taking the pills my period stopped. I was tested for hormonal in imbalances and it revealed that my Testosterone levels were slighted elevated.

Avatar f tn It talks about Reflux Menstruation. I have ovarian cysts that rupture every month, and endo. The endo was either caused from my cysts rupturing or when i had my c-section. If u can find the book, i highly recommend getting it and reading it. It has helped me understand the Endo alot.
Avatar f tn I am on metformin and spironolactone because of my high testosterone levels(came in at 73). I had an ultrasound and that came back normal, which is good. My question is, is there any of you out there that only have the high testosterone level symptom of PCOS and were still able to get pregnant? I have one little boy who is 2, and at the time I had him I did not know I had PCOS. I just went on the metformin and spironolactone a couple of days ago...

Avatar n tn d suggest is to see your doc about this and get him/her to check out your blood levels of estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, FSH, LH and see where everything sits in the grand scheme of things. Many women find that they are estrogen dominant and need a little progesterone to help even things off a bit more. But, only your doc can tell you that for sure.
Avatar m tn But long term use of testosterone and other steroids have transient effects and there is no scientific evidence that performance is enhanced. There is abuse liability so I would suggest you to follow up with a physician or endocrinologist for case to case prescriptions. Take care!
Avatar f tn Suboxone not only effects sex drive it effects Testosterone levels. There is a lot of misunderstanding of this out there. Viagra and Cialis without sex drive equals an erection that allows for sex but no satisfaction to the male if there is no drive. Low testosterone causes low sex drive and erectile dysfunction.

Avatar n tn The doctor checked my testosterone level due to and adverse affect of opiates, and I didnot have any. He put me on supplemental testosterone, but I have read it would come back naturally and taking supplements will stop the natural production of my testosterone. Anyone had this issue.
