Tarceva and brain tumors

Common Questions and Answers about Tarceva and brain tumors

tarceva

Avatar n tn When my mom started the Tarceva, she had cancer on her lungs, liver and brain. She had radiation on her brain and along with the Tarceva, that cleared up. It also took away the tumor on her liver and two of the tumors on her lungs. The other two tumors on her lungs shrunk in half. I hope this helps. Like I said, she had to go to a University hospital and join a clinical trial. Her first doctor read her scan and gave her 6 months to live and said have a nice day.
Avatar n tn A good friend was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the right lung at the end of Dec 2007. An mri this week shows 7 tumors in the brain. She has not started any chemo/radiation yet. She is 52 and in good health. I lost a brother to a brain tumor so understand the severity of the mets. I'm doing research as quickly as I can to help she and her husband make an informed decision about what to do...if anything. The local drs are recommending 4 weeks of full brain radiation followed by tarceva.
Avatar m tn He had undergone radiation to lung and several rounds of chemo (Carboplatin, Taxotere, Cisplatin, Gemzar). He also had surgery to remove one brain met (January 2014) and one kidney (May 2014)… CT scan in December showed no mets outside lung and lymph nodes…. He started Tarceva this January but it seems it did not work as the cancer spread to brain….
Avatar n tn In 2005, he had Tarceva. In 2008 they discovered metastasis to the liver (3 lesions) and he underwent chemo again (I think Avastin) and he finished the treatment in March. The doctor said the tumors in both the lungs and liver were smaller. For the past 3 weeks he´s been vomiting, but sporadically. There is no pattern. It doesn´t matter if he eats lightly or heavily. Some days he vomits once, some days nothing. He went to see a Gastroenterologist. They did a sonogram...
Avatar n tn 4 rounds of chemo of taxotere and cisplatin seem to have not worked as now he has mets in his liver, bones and adrenal glands. His doctor is aftraid that Tarceva is not recommended to someone with mets to the bone. That is not what I read. Can you please let me know if Tarceva is for him and whether that can hep stop or slow down the disease? Thanks.
Avatar f tn If the node is positive for cancer metastases, this may imply disease progression in spite of Tarceva intake. Tarceva may have to be replaced with another more effective chemotherapy drug. Radiation therapy to shrink the node and relieve the swelling may also have to be done. Consult with your oncologist as soon as possible so you can be properly assessed.
Avatar n tn But I read on here about others who had Lung cancer that went to the Adrenal Gland and brain etc. and they had surgery or radiation? Also do you know of a Doctor up here near Buffalo New York other than Roswell Hospital that we could go for a second opinion.? Thanks for your help!
Avatar n tn The tumor is about the size of a golf ball and has grown through/into the carotid artery and into the optic nerve. My neurosurgeon is unable to do the surgery because it is too complex. However, he is looking for someone who can do it, but it is taking him a long time and I am having no communication with him. He hasn't called me back, and I have talked to him in over a week. Does anyone have any suggestions as to whom I should contact or ather steps that I should take?
671285 tn?1292660161 I posted a similar question in the Neurology sight and I have yet to get a responese. I will keep my eye on your post. I had three MRI's and two CT's which brought back no resluts for brain tumors. I was told by one doctor that brain tumors do not hurt and another told me they can be bothersome. I have relatives on my both parents side who have passed on from brain tumors, one younger than me, so I also asked on my post is they are genetic.
Avatar m tn i smell burning now and again wathed something on telly and this person did the same but had a tumor is that corect
Avatar f tn Later months went to the Dr feeling strange and sent to the ER for possible heart attack. Did a cardio cath and found nothing. Primary sent me to a Neurology Dr who read CT scan wanted to do a MRI. MRI showed 1 cm meningioma in the left frontal lobe without significant mass effect or associated edema. Ventricular size remains normal linits. Also scattered T2 hyperintensities within the periventricular deep white matter of both hemispheres.
Avatar n tn The vast majority of headaches are not brain tumors. Brain tumors are actually very rare, and headaches can be caused so many different things. Headaches are just one of many symptoms of brain tumors (and they are rarely the sole presenting symptom). Also, in 3-4 years you would have most likely developed other symptoms (or be dead by now) if it were a brain tumor. That said, it might be appropriate to have an mri to help figure out what is going on.
Avatar n tn Having a brain tumor given that it can destroy or disrupt the functioning of the brain can easily cause extreme disruptions with the emotional part of the brain (depending on where the tumor is located) and what can seem like extreme rage can be part of it. That is not the same as having a bad temper and its not part of a psychiatric disability. Might be worthwhile to post the question in the neurology forum.
Avatar m tn I have two tumors, one in my frontal lobe and one over my pituitary gland. I need to have them removed but I don't have medical insurance. I am also type 2 diabetic. Can anyone help me to find the help I need to get the tumors removed? I have also recently joined the unemployed due to my office closing. Any help is greatly appreciated.
365470 tn?1232747095 Is your husband participating in a clinical trial? Sutent and Tarceva have some similar side effects, which is a rash and diarrhea, however patients who have hypertension may have problems with blood pressure on Sutent. Alternatively, perhaps there was simply some misunderstanding when the doctor was discussing the treatment.
Avatar n tn Have you come across any cases of rashes caused by Tarceva and further treatment? Or do you have any recommendations for what to do? My next dermatology appointment is not until September but I feel like there should be something more my team should be doing.
Avatar f tn Hi. Which particular "chemosensitivity test" are you referring to? There is no single laboratory procedure which can test for the sensitivity to chemotherapy of all types of tumors. In breast cancer, there's the Estrogen Receptor (ER) and Progesterone Receptor (PR) assays to determine sensitivity to hormonal treatment. There's also the HER-2 (human epidermal growth factor receptor 2) assay for determining sensitivity to Trastuzumab.
Avatar n tn Hi Ann, I just joined the forum myself but I looked up trigimenal neurlagia , it said it can be caused by nerve trama during a dental procedure. Avatar m tn My mother started taking Enbryl in 1998 or 1999, and was diagnosed with a large menengianoma brain tumor, which she had removed in 2003. Since the surgery, she has been on Remidcade. And during the hole time on Celebrex that has had a class action lawsuit. She now is totally disabled, can hardly walk or communicate, in diapers, with nerve damage similiar to MS symptoms. Belive it or not, her doctors still have her on the meds. I getting her off ASAP!
Avatar n tn DocumentID=14651 No evidence of meningioma or other brain tumors have been documented in preclinical studies on mice and rats as per this site. However the drug is still under research by Pfizer for certain indications and also for safety labelling. Hence you can contact the company if you have a doubt regarding this.
Avatar f tn It can show tumors if large or causing mass effect on adjacent structures but may miss smaller or more subtle tumors. If high clinical concern for tumor, consider MRI brain with and without contrast. However, different clinical scenarios may require tailored approaches. For more info: https://acsearch.acr.
