Avatar f tn There are several people here who have had expereince with blood sugar problems and treatment. Some used stuff like metformin or even insulin throughout treatment. My expereience was that high blood sugar levels went away while on treatment. That was a result of the red cell killing abilities of the ribavirin.
Avatar f tn We are almost 33 weeks pregnant currently, and i have been taking metformin the entire pregnancy- usually they take you off the metformin at around 12 weeks or so.. studies show that continuing the metformin when you have insulin resistance or PCOS does decrease your chances of miscarraiage. however i believe the studies show that coming off at 12 weeks is good, the benefits of it are done with at that time..
Avatar f tn Im taking metformin ,they told me its safe to take and im also on novolog insulin as well
393893 tn?1283551230 Other people have mentioned taking it after you eat, not with your food, or before. But, with pcos, the metformin could help everything to stabilize enough so that you could ovulate on your own.
Avatar f tn And I highly doubt they would give it to a 17 year old. Metformin like I said, is for insulin resistance. not every woman with pcos is insulin resistant. I have pcos, and I didn't need metformin to get pregnant. I did have to use clomid though. Being that metformin is considered a diabetic drug, if she needed it, I don't think they'd deny her, but I'm not certain.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Metformin since January when I was diagnosed with PCOS. The Metformin helps to regulate my insulin, and in turn, it helps me to ovulate. PCOS leads to issues ovulating regularly or on your own. Being insulin resistant does not mean that I am diabetic, just the issue with my ovaries and ovulation.
Avatar f tn Yeah, I had last year with my son, along with insulin, and I kept taking it after I gave birth, and now I'm pregnant again, and I'm gonna use it, for me, it worked, and is safe for pregnant women, I don't think they would prescribe it if it wasn't
Avatar f tn I been on metformin for 9 years its suppose to lower your blood sugars and help with you regular menstrual cycles but it only works when taking eveyday diet and exercise. In my opinion if your looking to conceive im not sure how well it works. I still havent been pregnant. But i am trying this new supplement Called pregnitude i wish you luck.
Avatar n tn I'm newly diagnosed diabetic and taking Metformin 500mg 2x a day. I have been taking it for about 10 days and have had the worse cramps and stomach pain! I'm not sure if it is my pre menstrual, which never feels like this, or the new medication. Has anyone had stomach pains or cramps as side effect of Metformin? I'm also taking Lisinopril-HTCZ.
245020 tn?1209657943 Metformin was a nightmare for me at first: I started with 500mg a day for a coupole of weeks, then 1000mg for a couple of weeks, and finally up to 1500. Initially I tried to increase after just a few days at each level, and this made me dreadfully ill. And I mean--DREADFULLY nauseous, dizzy, tired. If you search under "Metformin" on this site you will probably see when I posted the same question.
Avatar f tn t have kids and nor would I be a good candidate for fertility treatments, but, I had a healthy baby girl in July 2013 (prior to pregnancy was taking metformin For 1 year) and by May 2014 I was naturally pregnant (after baby #1 I was no longer insulin resistant so I hadn't taken metformin) again with a baby who's doing splendid.
Avatar f tn hi , im very confused after my last visit with my endo , he is insisting on me taking metformin to make my cycles regular , but also says i dont have a insulin related pcos after my question about risk of diabets and asking for a GTT . ( i also have prolactianemia because of the micro adonema on pitituary so i assume mine might be related to this one ) .
Avatar f tn I also take metformin 2000mg and I found out personally that taking the metformin with dinner does not make my stomach hurt. I can only tell you what helped me. Try it and see if it helps you. Be well.
568322 tn?1370165440 This is the first study showing that taking insulin sensitizers (like Metformin) to decrease INSULIN RESISTANCE, increases SVR. I have waited a long, long time for this study. Now we can use this study to get doctors to test people for insulin resistance and prescribe Metformin. Success rate is about to go up.....yes! TRIC-1 Study: Metformin Added to Peginterferon alfa-2a and Ribavirin Improves RVR Rate in Treatment-Naive Genotype 1 HCV Patients With Insulin Resistance.
Avatar f tn Metformin does damage the kidney's I am proof of it. Before taking metformin my doctor did a full set of blood tests. After taking metformin for a year it was found I was in stage 3 renal failure. I got taken off of metformin my kidneys showed improvement, then they put me back on it again my kidneys showed problems. I was taken off of it again and again my kidney function showed signs of improvement. I was put in metformin a 3rd time and within 3 months my kidneys showed issues again.
Avatar f tn For example, according to one study, which looked at 39 women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and hyperinsulinemia (excess insulin in the blood), treatment with Metformin for women with PCOS resulted in a decline of insulin as well as total and free testosterone, leading to significant improvement of clinical manifestations of Hyperandrogenism (the excessive production of androgens in women) and an improvement in menstrual cycles (3).

Avatar n tn ve been diagnosed with PCOS, and prescribed with Metformin for the same reasons, I feel amazing on it, at first I had a reaction (severe runs) but powered through and it is also what helped me fall pregnant. I am still on it now that I'm pregnant but from my experience, the metformin does not, or rather has not caused exhaustion for me, probably in fact the opposite. I think your doc needs to investigate if the two drugs are counter acting each other.
Avatar n tn I was just dx with PCOS last week and put on Metformin, the same meds. and dosage my husband is on for diabetes. You have to take it with food. AND... follow a lower carb diet. Carbs can make you feel sick and get the runs if your taking Metformin. I am taking 1500mg, 500mgs 3xs a day. Always with food or milk. Did your DR prescribe folic acid with that. I'm taking 4 - 1mg tabs aday. When I was taking it in the morning with the Metformin I would feel sicker.
