Does Wellbutrin become ineffective after long term use? Do people develop anger issues over time? One doctor told me that these effects are felt early, but would not present after years of use, and today a Psychiatrist told me that my recent emotional (angry) responses were caused by the Wellbutrin and that I needed to change to Lexapro. I'm confused. Can you tell me which is the better answer?
I am a 37 year old male and have been taking 300 mg/day Wellbutrin XL and 10 mg/day Lexapro since experiencing a severe depression episode in September 2005. I have since been going to counseling weekly and maintaing maintenance of these two medications and feel that I have made tremendous improvements. However, I have yet to go back to the stress-free, anxiety-free, depression-free person that I was before this occured.
I was previously on Lexapro for anxiety / depression, but switched to Wellbutrin due low libido while on the Lexapro. I have now been taking 150mg of Wellbutrin XL for about three months, and have noticed no imprvement. If anything, my libido has diminished even more.
Since most people report a boost in sex drive with the Wellbutrin, I was wondering if I am just an atypical case, or if perhaps my dosage is not high enough to experience the improvement.

Does anyone know how lexapro is? I will be paying almost as much as the wellbutrin xl, which i am willing to do to feel better. Do I have to slowly get off of the celexa and make the switch to wellbutrin or can i just switch the next day?
Can you please tell me if Wellbutrin XL will help with anxiety issues. Or can the medication Cymbalta be of better use?
Wellbutrin (bupropion) and Lexapro can be taken together. There is no negative interaction. Strangely, the addition of Wellbutrin to Lexapro is said to reverse some of the latter's tendency to interfere with erection, libido, and orgasm in males (and Lexapro is BAD in this respect). The normal dose of Wellbutrin after titrating up from 150mg is 300mg, preferably in the XL (released gradually over time) form, and the Lexapro is normally one 10mg tab QD.
I have been taking lexapro and wellbutrin XL for a few years. I didn't seem to gain weight. About a year ago I was put on elavil to help with IBS.
I have gained a lot of weight in the last year. I don't have a scale so I don't know how many pounds, but, I have gone from about a 33 waist pant size to a 36 inch elastic waist being too small.
I understand that elavil can cause weight gain. Would the lexapro also be adding to this?
no im on 10mg of lexapro and 300mg of wellbutrin xl. its the best combination that worked for me. and thats what its all about finding the best combination that works for you. it took me over a year to find that combination that worked for me.
m brand new to depression medication and just wondering what folks think about the combination of Lexapro and Wellbutrin. A lot of folks I know had bad problems with Wellbutrin, but really like Lexapro and right now I'm kinda just trying to power through side effects.
Hello, i was taking Wellbutrin Xl 300mg for 2 yrs. the last 6 months i was taking a generic brand. However, i became very depressed i the last 2 months. i was hospilized 3 weeks ago. They took me off of Wellbutrin and now i take Celexa and Remeron. However, i dont like their side effects. So today i switched back to Wellbutrin. Can i do this? i took it around 9:20am this morning, then 20 min later i began to feel lightheaded and my heart was racing. Is this normal?
Apon a follow up visit, a different doctor than the original, prescribed wellbutrin XL 300mg instead of Lexapro. He stated that Lexapro was not effective for anxiety and he preferred to have me on wellbutrin. After researching, this does not seem logical. I am concerned about taking Wellbutrin especially with such a large dose.
For several years now I've been taking Remeron, Paroxitine, Wellbutrin XL and Lithium; everything is at the top dosage. Only the Wellbutrin and Lithium I take during the day. These drops have been going on for quite some time, but now are the very worst they have been.
Last year I had to quit a part time job because of this and got on the sub list. Mornings are my best times til 9:30am, I push myself thru chores and if I do go to work I pray that is only for 3.5hrs.
I just started wellbutrin four days ago. I am taking 150mg XL with Lamictal. (The reason I started the Wellbutrin is because I was taking Celexa and couldn't handle the weight gain). The last two days I have been edgy, angry, yelling, up and down in my emotions. Fine one hour and angery the next. This is worse then when I wasn't on it. I am wondering if these are symptoms starting out with it, gets worse then better? Did anyone have side effects starting this medication?

You may not need anything but the Wellbutrin to be honest with you. I have OCD which leads to anxiety and then to depression. I was on Prozac many years ago and I tried those other drugs over the past year when it reared its ugly head again but I choose Wellbutrin. I was initially on 150 XL like you but I needed a boost when my OCD kicked into overdrive so I went to 300 XL. It did make me more jittery at first but after about 4-6 weeks, it went away and I feel GREAT!
I am on that combination and it works great. I was taking Lexapro 20 mg with Wellbutrin and was fine. How long have you been on Lexapro? My doc started me out slow with a week of 5 mg then 10 mg and so on. I know jumping into 20 mg for me was exhausting. Best of luck.

As I said, we were trying to limit the sexual side effect of lexapro or Celexa by making the switch to Wellbutrain, but as you said, made anxiety worse.Im going to see my psychiatrist on March 2.Well,right now,I'm a bit confused about taking the combo Wellbutrain/lexapro, because sexual side effect still there,so I think Wellbutrain is useless,if lexapro or Celexa works.
I would like to present literature, or something to her so she can change my prescription to Wellbutrin XL. I know taking reg Wellbutrin I am not good with taking more than one pill per day. Also I have heard the regular Wellbutrin, it is too much of a dose at once causing more side effects such as anxiety, shakiness, etc. I would like to fax her a letter so she changes the prescription to XL, but she will probably just get frustrated with me and not prescribe it.
I have been on Lexapro for a few years with no weight gain. You need to give it time to build up in your system and if after 4-6 weeks you're not feeling better, contact your doctor. They always start us out on a low dosage which usually has to be increased at some point to be therapeutic for us. Unfortunately, it is often trial and error as to what will work for eack of us as we all react differently to these types of medications. Once you find the right one, it is well worth it!
I am trying to come off my meds (wellbutrin xl 150 and effexor xr 75) as I would like to become pregnant this year. All my Dr.s say I need to come off the meds. My DR. has me taking my wellbutrin 150 mg once every 3 days and had me take 1 37.5 mg of the effexor for 5 days and no more effexor just wellbutrin. I am feeling tired, nausea and headaches I asume due to no effexor. Should I have been prescribed the effexor diffrently?
