Avatar f tn I was on prednisone and medrol pack numerous times all the while having undiagnosed hypothyroidism and didnt notice any problems. However Im not on those other medications so I cant vouch for that. I would call the phamacist and see what they say about it possibly interacting/causing problems.
Avatar f tn t eat or drink anything for 30-60 minutes. Other medications should be separated from levo by at least an hour or they can interfere with absorption. Supplements, especially, those containing calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc and other minerals should be separated from thyroid meds by, at least, 4 hours.
Avatar f tn Hi, I was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism and I take 125mcg of Levothyroxine a day. My doctor put me on iron tablets and she wants me to take them 3 times a day. The following has been advised of me: To take 1 iron tablet 3 times a day To leave 2 hours away from the thyroid medication. I have looked on other sites and have found that patients need to leave 4 hours away from the thyroid medication, ideally.
Avatar f tn Hello, It is common for few medications to interact with levothyroxine. It is better to avoid amiodarone, antidepressants and lithium while taking levothyroxine. If it is very important and need to be taken then it is suggested to be taken at least a four-hour window in between taking them and taking levothyroxine. It is possible that these two drugs are affecting each other. It is best to consult your attending doctor and get evaluated. I hope it helps. Best wishes and kind regards!
Avatar m tn Hi Exepients are substances added to tablets, syrups and other forms of medications like coloring agents, certain salts, sweetening agents etc. You could be allergic to them. However please rule out all causes of brain fog that I enumerated before to be on safe side. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar n tn In terms of taking levothyroxine and cold medications -- there is usually not a problem provided that the thyroid levels are normal. The concern comes primarily if you have an over-active thyroid, which does not appear to be the case for your daughter. There have been recent concerns about children's cold medications and safety in general. Check with her pediatrician to see what is recommended. Taking the levothyroxine is not likely to influence the choice of cold meds though.
Avatar n tn I think you are confusing Synthroid with Armour. Synthroid is a synthetic T4 medication, as is levothyroxine. The difference is the fillers and the price. As far as consistency, all the thyroid medications have had some issues. I am on Armour and I have been on the same dose for almost 5 years, so for me it is very consistent. Each of us do better on one medication over the other. There's no one medication for all.
988694 tn?1332359479 Also, after reading the following, it made me wonder if you are taking any medication (other than thyroid meds) or supplements that could be causing a lack of absorption of the thyroid med. ___________________________________ The cholesterol lowering resins cholestyramine (Questran) and colestipol, and the antacid medication carafate may bind levothyroxine in the gastrointestinal tract and prevent its absorption.
Avatar m tn 45 and FT4 = 1.00 . Do you suggest taking levothyroxine? Is it likely to be cancer?
Avatar n tn If you are taking generic, try switching to a name brand Levoxyl. I am certainly not an authority on the subject. I'm recently hypo after RAI. Only been on Levoxyl for 30 days. I've heard that so many have problems with the generic that I decided to skip that part and request brand name to start with.
Avatar n tn I stopped taking Levothyroxine three months ago, and my TSH is now 2x the initial level prior to taking thyroid medication. My Free T4 was and is within the normal range. Can being on the medication permanently suppress/reduce thyroid function? Would you expect the TSH will return to normal, and how long should I wait? Also, I lost a significant amount of hair from the medication-does complete regrowth usually occur, and how long does it usually take to notice?
Avatar f tn You have nodular goiter and Hashi with high-normal TSH --- I often treat these with levothyroxine, but not in all cases. It is not mandatory.
Avatar n tn He started me on synthroid and worked with it for a while til I was taking synthroid0.2mg with 0.05of Levothyroxine. He checked my levels about every 6 months. Well about a month ago he checked it and it came back abnormal. He kept me taking the same meds. I went back for my checkup about 2 weeks ago and he checked it again. In a few days the results came in and the nurse call me and said I was taking too much medicine. She said my thyroid had dropped to 0.
Avatar f tn This study clearly showed that 10.4% of those taking levothyroxine experienced a fracture within 4 years of using the properly prescribed dose. Higher prescription doses resulted in higher occurrence of fractures. An extended retrospective research study in the United Kingdom was performed with over 23,000 patients. Those who used levothyroxine showed an increase in fractures of the femur bone, the strongest bone of the body. The risk was not extensive, but still present.
Avatar n tn Okay, I'll admit it. I've not been taking my levothyroxine. Everyone tells me I could die from this and I've read some of the posts here about people going into comas etc but I've not had that. What is really going on and what are the possibilities of anything truly happening to me? My endocronologist is one of those that doesnt like questions and just says take it. I'm one of those people that has to know why. PLEASE!
Avatar m tn I wonder if these medications could have caused or contributed to these problems. I read that these medications could contribute to metabolic disorders and abnormal heart rhythms. Are any of these things true?
Avatar f tn It seems like your problem is not so much the interaction of the Covid-19 vaccine with the medications you're taking, as it might be between the vaccine and the conditions for which you are taking the medications. For example, if you have high ESR because of anemia or chronic infection, ask the doctor if those things are problematic in regard to getting the Covid shot. And definitely ask the doc about any issues relating to hypothyroidism when it comes to getting a Covid shot.
1010161 tn?1251921429 I've been taking levothyroxine (on my doctor's advice) for one week. Already it seems I'm feeling side effects. The most prominent one being an increase in anxiety. I'm already taking clonazepam (.50 mg/day) and sertraline (100 mg/day) for anxiety/panic attacks. And those medications were working until I started taking levothyroxine. I've also noticed I seem to be kind of gittery and my muscles feel weak sometimes. Are these normal side effects from the levo?
Avatar m tn My TSH was 3.58 on 4/8/13. By 5/8/13 after taking Levothyroxine it was 2.63. I was originally taking .012 mg. prescribed by my physician. The endocrinologist increased it to .025, and until recently, I still had no symptoms. I have been taking the medication for 3 and 1/2 months (before this I might have indigestion once or twice a year), and now I am experiencing heartburn two to three times per week, bloating, and more pronounced balance problems.
Avatar f tn I have to take metoclopramide for stomach dilation and I take Diazapam plus other meds on the very long list of containdicated medications. Does anyone know?
Avatar m tn Thank you for responding. I found out that they do make 0.3 mg Thyro-Tabs. Shortly after these medications were given he was diagnosed by another vet with Heart Disease and Cushing's Disease. I wonder if these medications could have caused or contributed to these problems. The vet specialist said that the doses were high. He put him on 50 mg twice daily, 0.3 mg in the morning and 0.2 mg at night. He said to increase the Levothyroxine very gradually over a period of weeks and not to exceed 0.
