Avatar f tn I am taking Effexor XR and it has been a lifesaver for me. I am on Arimidex and was having hot flashes and was depressed after breast cancer treatment. I had been on it before and stopped taking it without any problem. I know everybody is different. It sure helped me!!!
1110049 tn?1409402144 t like to think that ladies who do not need Effexor for depression etc. are being prescribed it for hot flashes. We all know how difficult it is to stop Effexor. I myself am not worried for myself, but for others.
Avatar n tn I don't know if your still out there, but I am 49, taking effexor xr for my hot flashes and want to be weaned off. I was taking 75 mg for a year and a half and for the past 2 months have been taking 150 mg because my hot flashes got worse because of a thyroid condition I've developed in the past 2 months. Were you advised by your Dr. on the dosage? My Dr. told me to take 75 mg for a week, then 37.5 mg for a week. I haven't done so yet, because I've been nervous about the outcome.
746058 tn?1248344665 Hi, My name is Lois (Groggyfroggy) I'm new here. My OBGYN also put me on Effexor for hot flashes and night sweats because I wasn't a candidate for hormone therapy and I'm going thru' menopause. I happen to have POTS, but wasn't put on the medication for the POTS. I became very sick after that with nausea, shakiness, and a most terrible moodiness. I had to be taken off the medication and it took quite a while to get out of my system.
Avatar n tn Hi Grandma 1964, I’m surprised that the estrogen has not helped you with the hot flashes after all this time. It seems that helping hot flashes is the one thing that almost everyone agrees estrogen does do well. What particular medication are you taking? I took Premarin for four months last year, and while it did help with the flashes and night sweats, it did little to help with my anxiety, stress and mood swings. If anything, it seemed to make things worse.
Avatar f tn Hi, I was just discussing hot flashes with someone who works for a Naturopath. She complained to him of her terrible hot flashes causing her to get up several times each night to towel off and change. The Naturopath recommended Vitamin E supplements. Not sure what dosage. But she started taking them and said she hasn't had night sweats since. Worth a shot. Good luck!
Avatar f tn says it works great on reducing hot flashes. If this is so maybe I will cut back on HRT for hot flashes. Thanks!
Avatar f tn I have early stage invasive lobular carcinoma in both breasts. It is estrogen positive. I am 55 years old and perimenopausal. My doctor and I have discussed options and I am pretty sure that I want the double mastectomy, with some immediate reconstruction (no implants). Do you suggest taking Tamoxifen? I'd like to avoid it if possible, since I already get headaches, hot flashes, insomnia, mood problems, etc.
Avatar f tn After this and beginning the Tamoxifen ,I suffered severe depression, hot flashes, excessive sweating . I began Effexor and found it helped the depression but not the flashes. Now a year later, I have started having severe ups and downs and mood swings and the sweating still there among other things. I have been taking the B1 and E suggested. can not find the periden c. no help I finally am seeing an M.D.
Avatar f tn I have been having terrible hot flashes and I don't want to go on hormone therapy so my Dr prescribed Prozac and that didn't help. We tried Effexor which I have been taking for 6 weeks and it helps tremendously but it is ruining my sex life. I took Wellbutrin years ago and it didn't affect my sex life so I'm wondering if this could be a help with my hot flashes.
Avatar f tn There are several antidepressants that can reduce hot flashes. Accupuncture was rated equal to Effexor in one study for reducing hot flahes. Regular exercise had been shown to both increase bone mass and decrease hot flashes. If you are concerned about BC, it makes sense to try some of the (probably) safer alternatives...
378102 tn?1215571666 You may want to ask your doctor about Neurotin (gabapentin). It is supposed to be as effective as HRT for hot flashes, but is a very strong narcotic, so will need to consult your physician and oncologist about possible side effects etc. Good luck.
Avatar m tn m 33 year old female was rushed to the ER due to serotonin syndrome never will I take effexor again. I initially was taking 15 mg buspar and was put on effexor for depression I felt like a zombie didn't eat had no energy I had needle feelings all over my chest couldn't breathe dizzy hot flashes .
Avatar m tn I take Arimidex, an estrogen reducer, following breast cancer. My oncologist told me the Effexor I was already taking would help alleviate hot flashes.
Avatar m tn Hi. My head feels foggy like I am not quite here and I will suddenly get so hot with beads or perspiration. A few seconds later the intense heat calms down. I also start feeling sick to my stomach 15-20 minutes after eating and feel like I may vomit. I have lost 25 lbs in two months without trying. I am a 53 year old female. I started suffering sever hot flashes about 3 years ago after my mom died. I also quit having monthly cycles and have not had one for three years.
Avatar f tn i am switching from effexor to citalopram because the cost is cheaper. i have been taking effexor for mild depression, insomnia, and hot flashes.
Avatar f tn My problem is not only do I feel like I'm on fire constantly, my cloth are on and off, on and off. I sleep with a fam or airconditioner and I also get so cold with shills that I sleep with 3 blankets. I can only compare menapause to HELL. Advise: Keep off the caffeen (Coffee, coke, tea), it will make the hot flashes more intense.
Avatar f tn m not happy that my doctor precribed this for me. She gave this to me for symptoms of hot flashes due to menapause, taking me off of Estradiol. Since I have been on this drug for a year now, it has made me sweat almost constantly, and itch like crazy, I tell her I want off of it. So now I'm taking it every other day till it gone. I was curious if I was going crazy the way my brain is blinking, I'm sweating so bad I can hardly go anywhere, without the embarrament of sweating.
Avatar f tn Increased anxiety is very common when going into peri, and those ‘3 am wake-up calls’ sound like classic night sweats! Many doctors are prescribing Effexor to help with hot flashes and night sweats these days, so it may be that they became more obvious when you decreased the dosage. I don’t blame you for being cautious though, I’ve heard several women say that they had nasty withdrawals when trying to quit Effexor.
11852 tn?1216841443 Just got from the endo. Good news is all my scans came back clean, so it looks like I'm cancer-free. I would be doing the happy dance, but I'm too dam tired to really care. Sad isn't it! Doc ask me how I was feeling and I told her about the extreme fatigue I've felt for a long time. I asked if there could be other causes besides thyroid history and the menopause. Her theory is I'm depressed and Effexor (taking for hot flashes) isn't working.
Avatar n tn m on Estroven now but it takes weeks for it to build up enough to work. Effexor takes care of the hot flashes but the nausea is unbearable! I can see why people get depressed during menopause! It's awful! Then there are those that have hot flashes for a month and it's all over. I'm SO jealous!! But at least I don't have mood swings. Yet!
1361367 tn?1280632089 I am going to speak to my oncologist who originally put me on effexor for my hot flashes 18 months ago. My PCP gave me the instructions above. I think my excessive weight gain in such a short period of time, is from being hypothyroid. I was panicking to remove anything that was attributing to that. I don't need anymore craziness added to the pot right now!
Avatar f tn I had brain zaps for months the first time I went off Effexor, but I had been taking it for some time before I went off.
