Common Questions and Answers about Systemic infection types

Avatar f tn A systemic infection is inside your body so no- I do not have a skin infection. I had a low grade fever for 15 years. I would be the rare case of a working immune system so NONE of the symptoms show as they do normally- In our area no Infectious Disease Doctor will not see you without documentation first of what you have. Evidence I currently have is thrush that has been in my mouth for 3 years and toe nail fungus since 1998. Main symptoms present like many other things...
Avatar m tn If fasting and two hour after food blood samples show normal results, get a glucose tolerance test done. Get your kidney function tested too. Systemic fungal infection is possible such as Candidiasis, Aspergillosis, Histoplasmosis, Blastomycosis, and Coccidioidomycosis. However these are seen in immunocompromised patients such as those on chemotherapy, dialysis, renal dysfunction, HIV, or other STDs. Rarely this is seen in healthy individuals.
Avatar m tn There are different types. I don't think by the sound of it so far that it is anything systemic. Usually those have a cough and other symptoms.
Avatar n tn It is not as bad as before when I could barely stand, but it is still there, and the fact that the pain is still there means I still have a fungal infection. Recently, my doctor said I have a candida infection, and gave me Diflucan (flucanozole) to take for 10 days. I just finished it and there was no apparent effect. Now, I'm not so sure it is a fungal infection. Urine and blood analyses done back in August showed no bacteria in the blood or urine. Could it still be a bacterial infection?
Avatar n tn I think I may have a systemic fungal infection. How can I find out? If I do, what do I do? My ears are bothering me and the ENT I went to today said "there's nothing wrong," though I told him they hurt and pop and I have ringing constantly. I don't think he really considered a fungal condition, though I told him I had been diagnosed with it previously. I also seem to have a vaginal yeast problem, so I'm wondering if it's whole body, like you say. Help!
Avatar m tn The doctors stitched the wound and sent him home for 5 days. Everything went well and his vision although blurred was fine otherwise. He was on systemic antibiotics and drops antibiotics, dilating drops and steroids drops for 5 days and had check up. The doctors said that there is still some inflammation inside the eye and continued with the steroids drops for next 4 days. When my husband stopped them as adviced, he developed severe pain in the eye and half of the head.
Avatar m tn Mycophenylate and other potent immunosuppressive drugs can increase the chance that a chronic infection may reactivate, but to my knowledge there is no evidence they increase the risk of infection if exposed. Your comments suggest you already know this. The risk of catching HSV is low from any particular sexual exposure, even without a condom and when the partner is known to be infected.
Avatar m tn org/posts/HIV---Prevention/what-is-the-window-period-for-hiv/show/1704700 Seeing as I have been feeling pain from the nodes in my arm pit and groin and have a rash, I feel my infection is most likely systemic.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with a fungal ear infection (tropical ear) today - I have had repeatedly dealt with 'swimmers ear' over the past 3 years, sometimes as often as 3 times per year. I have had severe pain in the affected ear, as well as pain in the temple on the affected side. Starting 2 days ago, the lymph node behind that ear (which has been swollen since Nov. 07) became extremely painful. It's like having cramps in the side of your neck at times. My ENT prescribed ZOTO-HC OTIC SOL.
20794198 tn?1508781806 Hi we are not doctors on these sites. But I am a microbiologist and can try to give you some advice. Superficial candida skin infections appear as a red flat rash with sharp, scalloped edges. Smaller patches of similar-appearing rash, known as "satellite lesions" or "satellite pustules," are usually nearby. These rashes may be hot, itchy, or painful.
Avatar n tn With the fever, elevated white cells in the spinal fluid, and difficulty breathing, a systemic infection with spread to the nervous system is more likely than trauma ot be causing her problems. But again, keep in mind I have never seen her personally and cannot give an accurate medical opinion. Hang in there. The best thing that you can do at this point is to keep her in your thoughts and prayers and remain as supportive as you can for her and her family. Best wishes.

Avatar m tn – Coronary artery disease was significantly more prevalent in patients with hepatitis C virus infection, compared with control subjects, based on a retrospective review. The findings were presented at the annual meeting of the American College of Gastroenterology. "An association of coronary artery disease [CAD] with hepatitis C has been suggested, but definitive data are still lacking," said Dr.
Avatar m tn 2) Rarely, some tests may miss HIV. But there is no HIV infection that would be missed by all the tests you had. 3) Your test results also rule out syphilis with 100% certainty. 4) I see no reason for your wife to be tested, assuming she hasn't been at risk other than your mutual sexual activity. 5) There is no such thing as losing both detectable antibody and a detectable viral load. And if that had happened, you would be deathly ill by now, perhaps dead.
Avatar f tn The Sphenoid sinuses are located in the body of the sphenoid bone. This is located just behind the eyes. The inflammation of this sinus often is felt as a nagging headache behind the eyes or on the side of the head. A sinus is an air pocket within a cavity of a bone and has a narrow opening for blood vessels. These vessels are very very small and blood must pass one cell at a time.
Avatar n tn I am a certified herbalist and nutritionalist, and I am starting to think that the cause for all of this may be a systemic candida infection. Candida albicans is the scientific name for yeast. When it becomes systemic it can cause all kinds of problems. Google it and you will find many holistic websites that list the many and varied symptoms. It effects everyone differently, so it can be hard to diagnose.
Avatar m tn the infectious disease specialist i saw, said that if the infection is local, the body doesn't produce antibodies to be detected in a blood test. That is somewhat confusing, because i thought that most of the herpes infections are "local" and not systemic? If my doctor is right, that would mean that all the general info about herpes blood tests and their accuracy in diagnosing herpes, oral or genital, was wrong or at least very misleading. So, is it really so?
Avatar f tn Is it possible I have a rare form of septic bursitis? Could I have some sort of rare systemic infection that caused the bursits? Would it be unreasonable to ask for tendon and bursal fluid biopsies, just to be sure? - Also, would it be advisable to include MRIs of other sites as well (knees, lower back, etc?) - Finally, could some sort of spinal disease that doesn't show up on bloodwork be causing lower extremity issues?
Avatar f tn I think your sister should see her doctor immediately. Cirrhosis of the liver compromises a person's immune system in several ways making them more susceptible to bacterial infections. Certain types of cellulitis (gram negative) can advance rapidly and can be dangerous in cirrhotic patients.
Avatar n tn If it's symmetric it sounds like a systemic problem. not fungal , topical infection.
Avatar n tn If your gum swellings are acute onset and generalized, combined with your systemic condition, my clinical impression is primary herpes infection. Seeing a medical physician and receive antiviral medication is advised.
Avatar f tn Your symptoms sound a lot like a sinus infection that became systemic, resulting in additional signs/symptoms. The course of Abx that you were on was likely not long enough or perhaps not even the correct Abx for your infection. Often these types of infections slowly become systemic if not treated properly. I can tell you that quite of few veterans had this initial symptom but since they were inadequately treated, the infection slowly spread.
Avatar n tn This means that that any viral infection such as herpes which can cause a systemic infection as well as encephalitis may be present at an elevated level in the body but you can't tell where it is unless you know the clinical history or it was directly taken from the cerebrospinal fluid. Correlating the clinical picture and imaging studies along with the labs is essential in making the diagnosis.
Avatar f tn The only problem is he should have tried another systemic antibiotic. Many types of bacteria are resistant to the one he prescribed. Ask for a prescription for the anti-bacterial soap "Phisohex". It is more effective than bacitracin.
Avatar n tn Try a Q-tip dipped in bleach & saturate under ea. nail for 1 min & rinse well. Will whiten & kill some types of fungus. Many naturopathic bs's can also help take a look & suggest cause.
237053 tn?1258832026 There could be another infection involved. Low CD57 counts are usually associated with a systemic infection, but the type of infection need not be of a specific type. Usually cell wall deficient bacteria can trigger this, but there are many, many types of cell wall deficient bacteria that cause systemic infections.
Avatar n tn One can consider various types of genitourinary infection - and can be evaluated with a prostatic exam as well as urine tests for STDs and a urinalysis. If negative, you can consider a neurology evaluation to examine for any nerve dysfunction. Blood tests for systemic disorders that may atpically lead to such symptoms can be consider. This can include diabetes, b-12 deficiency or thyroid disorders. These options can be discussed with your personal physician.
