Synthroid vs thyroxine

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid vs thyroxine

synthroid

Avatar n tn I agree that there is debate over the use of generic vs brand name. I actually did better on generic levo than I did synthroid, but everyone is different.
Avatar n tn I have been on Synthroid for 8 years. After all of these years on Synthroid, I still have all the symptoms. My worst symptom is the severe fatigue! For the last 2 years I have asked my doctor to try a different medicine ( Armour ). He states that " You're fine! You're tests are coming back normal. There is no difference in the medications." I would like to know if there really is a difference between Synthroid and Armour.
Avatar f tn I've had a total thyroidectomy due to nodules beginning to tangle around vessels--never was hypo or hyper thryoid but this was causing some problems w/beginning to black out and making my seizures worse. Now I'm trying to get this regulated but my dr. prescribes only one refill. I'm very disorganized cognitively as it is thus I've gotten in one or two weeks late for my first two blood tests.
Avatar f tn t see the indication for the synthroid if the baseline TSH was .02 - this is hyperthyroid and synthroid should not be used. Would consider and endocrine eval (or second opinion) to re-establish a definite diagnosis (ie graves vs hashi vs functioning nodule).
87651 tn?1259602403 Have been on Synthroid for 5 days now and I wanted to know if I can drink milk right away after dose or wait? I thought it was waiting 4 hours? I took mymeds today at 6:15am and had a bowl of cereal and glass of milk around 10am. Should I wait longer in the long run?
Avatar n tn There seem to be a lot of people implying that synthetic thyroxine is no good, but surely if as many as 1 in 50 women suffer from hypothyroidism, loads of people must be OK on it. I find it very worrying to read that the treatment I have put on may not work at all. I was started on 50mcgs for a month and it has since been put up to 75mcgs and I am hoping to see some improvement in how I feel soon. How long does it take for the thyroxine to kick in and start to make you feel normal again?
Avatar f tn In the meantime my general doc would like to help me raise my t4 by starting on a very low dose of Thyroxine or Synthroid. My doc reccomends the Synthroid. I was just wondering if anyone has any input of Thyroxine vs.Synthroid from personal experience or knowledge. I will be calling him in a few hours to let him know which one I prefer. Thanks!
Avatar m tn My latest blood work up which was about 3 weeks ago was T4 free 1.29, Free Thyroxine Index 2.2, T3 uptake 30, Thyroxine T4 7.2, T3 141 and TSH .022. Previously when on Synthroid while not feeling the best I had no palpitations and my TSH was .048, T4 9.0, T3 uptake 30 and Free Thyroxine Index 2.7. Thoughts please..scary stuff!!
410801 tn?1220119445 Hi, i have been reading so much on Synthroid VS Armour, and i am tempting to switch to Armour myself.. before making that decision, I wonder, how many of us, who are on Synthroid, and are happy. we probably heard more negative feedbacks, and there might be plenty of us are happy with Synthroid?
Avatar n tn The simple answer to all these questions about why levothyroxine vs thyroxine is money! No one can patent a naturally occuring hormone, enzyme, or nutrient, but if one can discover or synthesize a chemical that acts a lot like the real McCoy, then you can charge an arm and a leg for this patentable item.
Avatar f tn I have only 10% left and so have to take thyroxine for life. Apart from regular blood test which can result in my medication being changed I havent had many problems. I am currently on 125mcg. Recently I was diagnosed with pernicious anemia which Ive been told is another autoimmune disorder. This was only discovered after Id had various tests for a stomach complaint which came back clear except for mild gastritis.
Avatar n tn I just started taking synthroid for small hypothyroid condition . I have been on Keppra and Lamotrigene for many months for seizures. No problem with seizure meds but began having terrible oder issues ,everything smells horrible - skin, food , lotions, shampoos etc. Could this be interaction with these meds . ?
1178465 tn?1264081415 Hello, I was diagnosed with a multinodular goiter, caused by low thryoid levels in October. I was having my periods every 3 weeks for years before this. I was put on 125 mcg Synthroid to keep the goiter from enlargin further and perhaps to shrink it. For two months after I started Synthroid, I was thrilled to get normal periods back, every 4 weeks. No since that 2nd period, I started bleeding just 2 weeks after and it's been almost a week now, not bad bleeding but more than spotting.
Avatar f tn Just for your informaton, Thyroxine (T4), T3 Uptake and Free Thyroxine Index, along with Total T3 are all outdated. Thyroxine (T4) is the same as Total T4. Both it, and Total T3 are both bound and Free hormones, so they don't tell us much. Free Thyroxine Index (FTI) is an outdated way to calculate Free T4. T3 Uptake (T3U) is an indirect way to measure Thyroxine binding proteins. T3U and T4 are used to calculate the FTI...
Avatar f tn Had been feeling terrible when I was switched by my mail order to Synthroid instead of Levothyroxine. Dr. also said I was hypo. Recent test results TSH - 7.93 - Thyroxine Free 0.80. Can some people tolerate Levo better than Synthroid. Don't know if my symptoms of nausea, bloating, depression, hot spells are due to Synthroid or hypo. Thank you so much.
Avatar n tn Several months ago (3 to be exact) I switched from Synthroid to Thyroxine and since that time I have gained 5 lbs a month even though I'm working out, eating right etc... Today I start back on Synthroid. Does anyone know how quickly the weight comes off when switching from generic Thyroxine to Synthroid? I would appreciate your feedback so very much. Thanks!
Avatar m tn I started taking .1mg thyroxine for hypothyroidism 1 week and 1/2 ago. I started feeling so much better a couple days ago. My thyroid gland (or pituitary) has defeintly gotten a kickstart. I do not want to stay on this medication though. I want to pursue alternative therapies (nutrition, acupuncture, supplements). I will be discussing this with my doctor but am looking for a little background on how this all works.
