Synthroid vs t3

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid vs t3

synthroid

996946 tn?1503249112 Thats a reasonable dose in my mind. The armour will have 17 t4 and 4.5 of t3, but the t3 is stronger. But its such a tiny dose, I dont think you will notice much difference. Your ft3 is in range but its very low. There is not enough to grab from. Its like eating at macdonalds but you are only getting a kids meal worth of food but your body requires a nice healthy meal so that it is way low. My guess is you will have to bump up and bump to a full grain rather quickly.
Avatar f tn health issues that she had for years on Synthroid alone. Her freee t3 was very low while on Synthroid yet her t4 was very high when she began having the heart issue. Now we keep her t3 much higher in normal range and her t4 at mid range and she feels much better in every way! She obviosly could not convert enough of the synthetic t4 storage hormone (Synthroid) into enough of the active hormone t3 on her own for whatever reason.
Avatar n tn Taking a med that contains T3, you can expect an increase in the levels of total T3 and also free T3 in your blood. Since free T3 is the most active thyroid hormone, it largely regulates metabolism and other symptoms. All other things being equal, if your free T3 goes up your symptoms will respond.
5584884 tn?1370371308 Please post your actual thyroid test results, with reference ranges, so we can see what they look like. Just because they are "perfect" on paper, doesn't mean they are perfect for you. You can talk to 10 different people and you'll get 10 different ideas on the need for T3 medication. If your FT3 is high enough without additional T3, then you don't need it, but if you're not converting adequately, you will.
Avatar m tn Cytomel is a T3 only med; synthroid is T4 only med. They are totally different from each other. When taking a T4 med, the T4 has to be converted to the usable T3, when you take a T3 med, that's what you are getting and as soon as you take the pill, it's available for use, with no conversion or anything. Some people do notice more aches/pains if their FT3 is not high enough.
Avatar f tn ) My question to anyone is should i be getting T3? And if Amour has T1, T2, T3.T4 just like if i had my thryoid why wouldnt i want to be on this med and not just the T4? What happens to graves diease now that i dont have a thyroid, and about anyone experiance with hairloss/re growth? Oh yea and about weight.....Im so confused about all this and I want to be well prepared when i go see this new doctor on the 19th. Her are my last labs results from 7/2/13 TSH <0.15 [0.270-4.
Avatar n tn What are the benefits of doing the T3 vs. the Synthroid?
87651 tn?1259602403 He also wants me to stop the Synthroid tomorrow and then 5 days from then start the Armour. He said because the T3 in Armour is very fast acting and letting my body have a break in the 5 days will be an easier transition to the Armour. He said if I go from Synthroid to Armour I could get extremely hyper. Sound about right?
Avatar f tn What would be the determining factor for prescribing armour thyroid vs synthroid (and maybe cytomel)? I appreciate your help very much. It seems like it has taken forever to get the right dosage and help.
Avatar f tn i am also on the generic t3 lio. when i was on synthroid i was constipated more and wt but when i went on the generic the constipation let up and i lost wt. i can t afford the brand my hmo won t pay for it so i am ok with generics- for now ha who knows with the thyroid roller coaster though! good luck and i hope you get your free t3 tested soon.
Avatar n tn 2.8 (Range: 2.3-4.2) Free T3: 3.2 (Range: 2.3-4.2) T3 Total: 70 T4: 9.0 (Range: 4.5-12.0) TPO: 199 Tba: 20 Symptoms were acute anxiety and then, difficulties swollowing, which lead a led to an antibiotic treatment for tonsilitis. I quit the cytomel the day prior to that last lab.
Avatar f tn I have no idea about all the ins and outs of Synthroid vs. Armour. I know that people sometimes have better results with one and then sometimes the other. In my case I found that even though taking a large dose of Synthroid (200mcg), I never became symptom free because my body was not converting T4 very well. When my doctor confirmed this by checking free T3, she decided to change my meds to a T4/T3 combination. I started feeling better very shortly thereafter.
Avatar f tn I have been on Synthroid for about 17 years --- I had a thyroid-ectomy when I was a teenager. my levels have never been consistant so my dosages changes rather often! I am now looking into one of the replacement hormones that has both T3 and T4 , that are all natural! Has anyone made the switch? and how did it work out for you?
Avatar f tn I spoke with the nurse and asked if the test included a t3 test and were my levels off. The test did not include a t3 and they said that the tsh was enough and if it was normal they had no reason to do a t3 test. I recently had lap band surgery to assist with weight loss and have started to see some good results but I'm worried that everything is going to get messed up. I'm working with my lap band surgeon, a nutrionist and had to pass psych screening to receive the surgery.
Avatar f tn Just looking at your test results, your Free T4 and Total T3 results strongly suggest that you are not adequately converting the T4 to T3. It would be far better if you would get Free T3 tests rather than Total T3. Free T3 is the thyroid test that correlates best with hypo symptoms, while Free T4 and TSH did not correlate well at all. So it would be a good idea to always make sure they test for Free T3 along with the Free T4 each time you go in for tests.
Avatar f tn I'm not sure if I've had T3 or T4. I'll have to get a copy of my records. My new doctor has ordered it for the next lab in 4 weeks. If the numbers are normal will that mean that changing to Armor will not have any impact on my symptoms. Before this happened I was perfectly healthy and Synthroid was the only medication I was taking. The only time I went to the doctors was for an annual exam.
