Synthroid vs levoxyl doctor

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid vs levoxyl doctor

synthroid

Avatar f tn Hello the only thing I know to be true with me is; 6-7 years ago my doctor gave me levoxyl, generic for synthroid. I don't remember now how long into taking levoxyl that I didn't feel right anymore. I remember telling friends, family, doctor that something wasn't right, I felt like I was loosing my mind; crazy. And everyone would say nothing is wrong and nothing was wrong even at doctors. I never put it together with the change from synthroid to levoxyl.
Avatar f tn Levoxyl is indeed a brand name levothyroxine, like Synthroid. It's the only brand my insurance covers, that's why I take it. It's works out best for me but the name has been a real pain. Now, before leaving the pharmacy counter I have to take my med out of the bag, read it and make sure it says 'Levoxyl - 112 mcg.
280485 tn?1249013844 t remember the transition from Levo to Levoxyl but i can certainly tell you about transition from Levoxyl to Synthyroid . Last month my doctor change my brand from levoxyl to synthyroid since after week i am having muscles and joint pain which is killing me every day , it is so bad that i can coop up with my daily work and also very dry mouth i think because of that my tongue is white all the time .
Avatar f tn I am probably going to change to synthroid. My doctor wanted me to go on levoxyl my heart races on that. I know there are some chemicals that hurt your thyroid. One is Tricloscan in toothpaste, fruit of loom underwear and many more. You should check it out.
535882 tn?1396576685 ve been on generic, Synthroid and Levoxyl, and I see no difference at all. However, many members report having much better results with one or the other.
937837 tn?1285350385 What do you think is better? I am currenty on Synthroid, but I have discovered it contains Lactose, and I have been mildly lactose intolerante for years now. Most of the synthetic brands have lactose, so I think I might go to natural.
Avatar f tn I was just curious about taking generic Levoxyl. I have been reading that taking the generic may not keep your levels accurate since none of the generics have the same potency. I have been having weird symptoms that i believe are related to taking the generic form of Levoxyl. Like heart racing, dizziness, shortness of breath, itching, irritability. Has any one else had any issues with this?
Avatar n tn The FDA has determined that generic Levothyroxine and brand-name Synthroid and Levoxyl are equivalent. The FDA requires all drugs, both brand-names and their generic counterparts, to be proven safe and effective. Since generics use the same active ingredients and are shown to work the same way in the body as their brand-name counterparts, they also have the same risks and benefits. From my re/search, I have found the Levoxyl has the least inactive ingredients.
Avatar n tn Synthroid is a made-up brand name. The actual composition of the medication has changed several times since it was introduced. In addition there were problems at the manufacturing facility, primarily involving quality control issues, resulting in one plant being closed by the FDA. In fairness, I believe these problems have been resolved. As goolara stated, many people take generic and do just fine. Do not purchase on the internet, and always insure you buy from a reputable manufacturer.
Avatar n tn Thanks for that info, Kitty. I didn't know there was that much inconsistency in active ingredient, as well. The info about the Synthroid website is very helpful. I'll have to ask my wife what my Synthroid is costing at the pharmacy. I don't know what I am paying for it, but I know this morning our pharmacy bill was over $1,500 and Barb took them $400. With three of us taking all sorts of meds, the bill adds up quick.
Avatar n tn In the United States, brand names include Synthroid, Levoxyl, Levothroid, Eltroxin, Tirosint and Unithroid; Generic forms are Levothyroxine sodium USP and L-thyroxine. There is still debate over whether generic thyroid supplements are as effective as thyroid brand name supplements.
Avatar n tn I think you are confusing Synthroid with Armour. Synthroid is a synthetic T4 medication, as is levothyroxine. The difference is the fillers and the price. As far as consistency, all the thyroid medications have had some issues. I am on Armour and I have been on the same dose for almost 5 years, so for me it is very consistent. Each of us do better on one medication over the other. There's no one medication for all.
Avatar f tn Don’t know the difference between the two and I am assuming which ever one you take is based on the condition you have? Also there is a Synthroid that people take is it the name brand of Levothyroxine or is it a completely different medication?
456333 tn?1206973213 I believe Synthroid, Levoxyl, Levothroid and Unithroid are the 4 brand names and I think they are made somewhat differently, differently enough that you are never recommended to switch between them month to month. Have you had any recent blood work to see what range you are in? I know jitteriness can be a side effect of the meds but it can also mean you are on too high a dose along with anxiety, restlessness, nervousness, insomnia and a racing heart.
Avatar f tn An interesting question. Go to the FDA site and research Synthroid. "Synthroid" is not necessarily "synthroid". By that I mean, for various reasons the brand name is the same, however the composition has changed several times. Also look up Levoxyl.
Avatar m tn I've been reading the previous discussion about generic vs branded medicine as it relates to hypothyroidism. I am on Levothyroxin and need to know if it's the same as Levothyroxine. Thanks This discussion is related to Levothyroxin versus Synthroid.
Avatar f tn I started off with levoxyl and ended up with synthroid because i was complaining of extreme exhaustion and it helped me. Instead of being exhausted all the time, it occurs mainly in the late afternoon/evening.
1139187 tn?1355706647 I have been taking levoxyl since about 6 months after my diagnosis of hashimotos and I started on levothroid my the ent doctor but my endo prefers levoxyl and I have been taking that ever since January of 2010 or sooner. I have mainly been on levoxyl.
1468158 tn?1363026295 hobojo... The thyroid tests you need to determine if you are hypo are Free T3, Free T4 and TSH. Don't let your doctor get by with only testing TSH; that's probably what they've been doing, which is the reason you've been "normal" all the time. Also, make sure you get a copy of the report after you have the test done, and keep it for your records... I have all of my blood test reports since 2000, so I can go back and check and compare...
Avatar m tn I'm currently taking Levoxyl 50 mcg after being on Synthroid for years. It's been 3 months but I feel like I have worst symptoms. 50mcg Levoxyl 5.18.2016 1.22 0.450-4.500 uIU/mL Triiodothyronine,Free,Serum010389 2.7 2.0-4.4 pg/mL T4,Free(Direct)019745 1.55 0.82-1.77 ng/dL 50 mcg Synthroid 2.26.2016 TSH004264 2.34 0.450-4.500 uIU/mL Triiodothyronine,Free,Serum010389 2.6 2.0-4.4 pg/mL T4,Free(Direct)019745 1.4 0.82-1.
Avatar f tn I have been on the drug since the end of January when my endo switched me from Synthroid to Levoxyl (125 mcg). For about 3-4 weeks now I have noticed that my blood pressure is higher than normal, 138/78, it used to be 110/70. I get heart palpitations and my chest feels like it is squezing in the front and the back. I discussed my symptoms with my endo and was sent for a chest CT to rule/out a PE. That came back fine.
280485 tn?1249013844 But the bloating and joint issues I had experienced on Synthroid only partially disappeared with the Levoxyl. Was my body missing the T3? It was over two months before I went back to the doc to tell him that he was right and I wanted to add the cytomel back in and hopefully ditch the joint/bloating issues. I had decided that I'd trade pain for sleep anyday... I'm now 3 weeks on the Levoxyl/Cytomel combo, but it's totally a different ratio than last time.
Avatar f tn Sme say its a combo of pig, cow and a few other animals, LOL. 3) It is too hard to fine tune the dose because it comes in grains vs mcgs, so synthroid is easier to prescribe. From what I read here on the message boards, I don't see any proof that synthroid, or generic levoxthyroxine is any better at regulating thyroid problems. Seems pretty touchy either way you go.....but as you know, it's just an opinion that is typically disputed according to your own experience.
