Synthroid side effects in men

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid side effects in men

Avatar n tn Men do seem to have a rougher time of it than women, but we haven't noticed any significant difference in weight loss...mostly in depression. Men seem to take it harder than women. EXCERSICE is the key. even just walking...get up and move, get those endorphins to kick in and the dopemine will follow.
Avatar n tn Plus, there are so many women around here that now want to take it, I'm planning a seminar. So, the side effects will be helpful in discussion. My doctor has been injecting it for 2 years as a maintenance program and so has his wife. Plus, he says in some of his fibromyalgia patients, the hcg has really helped their pain lesson (not in all but in some). Everybody should investigate it for themselves and need to feel good about, wholly, before taking it.
Avatar n tn Well, I'm in the middle of testing now but what I can tell you is that you are supposed to sleep less as you age. This is something you cannot ignore so please look into it even if it has nothing to do with the thyroid. One of the symptoms of hypothyroid that I know of is that your digestion slows down, this means you get more constipated and more time passes between bowel movements (which can lead to all sorts of problems by itself).
Avatar f tn I switched to tirosint about 4 months ago because i thought it was more pure. I was ok on synthroid no big side effects. In June I started getting strange side effects. Hair thinning and breakage and a terrible aches in my joints to the point that I have stop running. My tsh is .33 and my ft3 and t4 are in range but leaning toward hypo. I am really concerned. I am worried about switching back to synthroid and feeling worse now. Anyone have this experience.
Avatar n tn Is it like saying just taking longer birth control pills? What are the side effects? What are the benefits? Has FDA approved? Where i can search more about Yaz? Will it affect my future plan of having a healthy pregnancy? Also, i was told if i do want to get pregnant, i should wait 6 months after taking the birth control pills. is that true?
Avatar m tn But the Endo said I'm on too low of a dose to have any side effects. I'm on .075 mg, he said patients usually don't have side effects until 300, whatever that means. And synthroid doesn't cause breathing issues. He told me to stop taking the med until he tests my FT3/T4 July 23 (finally), and he'll go from there. He said my TSH is still normal, tested Saturday night at the ER, but he wouldn't give me the numbers. Geez, why does it take so long for endo appts,.
Avatar f tn I may have answered my own question about possible (in this case, probable) side effects of Cytomel (T3): Looks like it would aggravate my already-existing symptoms: hair loss, heat intolerance, anxiety, weight gain, menstrual irregularity, etc. Interesting, though, that a T3 med would cause my very symptoms. Doesn't that mean I may need T4, then? I'd rather need nothing...but now I'm even more worried than before.
1139187 tn?1355710247 FLUSH in the face Feeling of getting a head cold Hard to get into a deep sleep Small headache that comes and goes Of course im hyper now, but compared to the way I felt before which I can only describe as near death, I feel much better. Has anyone else had these side effects after starting meds? Also can we drink wine?
Avatar f tn I'm starting to get worried here. Is this a side effect of the Synthroid? Or is it because my levels are messed up? My endo said that when the body is in crisis the first thing it will do is to stop sending nourishment to the hair follicle as that the least important thing in the body and then the hair will obviously fall out. Well hello????? It's been a freakin year now and the hair is STILL falling out. Is my body still freaking out because of no thyroid after a year?
Avatar m tn Since then my physical sense has been a train wreck. Tons of side effects which I believe are from Synthroid. Muscle aches, joint pains, wierd tearing like pains, burning sensations, emotional stress (from not feeling well) and worst of all insomnia bouts. My "old self" had many hypo issues but my daily life did not appear to suffer as much. Yes I do think that men experience many of the same issues. Perhaps they tend to keep it inside rather than posting online.
Avatar n tn I was fortunate enough to be treated with pegylated interferon and ribaviran combination therapy for 48 weeks in 2006/07. I had many side effects during treatment, but I have cleared the virus. The comments from all of you are mirroring my life. I have joint pain in my fingers, wrists, elbows, ankles, knees, hips. I have muscle aches and fatigue from any activity. I have depression. I have lower back pain. I don't sleep well.
Avatar f tn The risk was not extensive, but still present. The unusual finding was that it occurred more in men than women. This was presumably due to the protective effects of estrogen in women. This study did not focus on other sites of fracture common with osteoporosis, including wrist or spinal compression fractures. It did not delve into how many individuals had developed bone loss - only fractures. Another study focused on 194 women who took the thyroid hormone for more than 20 years.
Avatar m tn a) In this study, the researchers tested several nutritional factors to see how they correlate with pre-exercise testosterone levels in healthy men. What they saw was that the diets high in saturated fat and the diets high in monounsaturated fat, significantly increased testosterone levels. Whereas the diets high in protein, or the diets high in polyunsaturated fats, both reduced testosterone levels in a pretty much dose dependent manner.
Avatar f tn Did you both have to take the 50,000 I.U. of Vitamin D and did you have any side effects? I looked up drug interactions and it stated that one of my blood pressure medicines with HCTZ could have a reaction.
Avatar m tn He lubricates my skin, messages my neck and back, then gently turns my head from side to side while pulling my head which stretches the muscles in my neck and back (sounds odd, but this really helps). He can usually feel what we call "crunchies" in my neck. This has gone on for a year. I've been told these are caused by spasms, but noone has ever felt a spasm in my back. Odd, but, with hubby able to give me short term relief, I've just learned to live with it.
Avatar n tn 6 months after living here I noticed a dent in the top of my head on the right side. I have always wore my hair in a pony tail and would have noticed before. I started having headaches about 3 months before this showed up. I went to the dr scared like all of you. The 1st neuro asked if I was from Third Rock from the Sun, great joke but made me a little upset. I eventually saw another and they took 2 years to get my headaches under control. I have since noticed my head sinking continuously.
Avatar n tn It usually happens on the palm side of various fingers, but in April, I had one rupture on my knuckle. I'm very interested in any comments.
1202943 tn?1347844252 Could you please advise me as well who the doctor is? I am currently on synthroid and cytomel and just had a run in with my current endocrinologist, starting to have the same familiar pain when turning my head to the left, which has always been when I needed an increase, my TSH has gone up over the last few months, but she refused to increase.. she suggested I go to my primary care for a neck evauation and for chills...
Avatar n tn I have had the warm sensation in the back/side of my upper right thigh for about 5 days now. It lasts for about 3/4 sec's then goes away. The first day it happened twice and now it happens frequently throughout the day (8-12 times). I do have health insurance and plan to make an appointment tomorrow. I will let you know the outcome of my visit.
Avatar n tn Long history of vaginal redness during period with external skin effects. A lot of blood in urine one day prior to diagnosis, not related to bladder infection. Diagnosis made by urogynecologist after discharge increased with using health store suppositories for maintaining vaginal ph. This led to my diagnosis. Amoxil 500 was given and no more problems! Husband was not treated and he is fine also. It has been a year now.
Avatar n tn I actually feel a crackly throat the next day like I really had smoke in my room. I had a loser family living on the other side who had a grow up going on in the house. That is a totally different smell all together. This is definitely coming from me.
Avatar n tn About six years ago, I noticed nasty little puckers and crepiness in the crook of my elbow. About six months ago, the skin under my underarm (on the inner side of my arm) started to look saggy. I have an antiaging blog and have used this to document everything logical to be done about this since many of my readers are experiencing the same.

Avatar n tn I don't know the exact statistics, but I do know that thyroid cancer, well, all thyroid problems, for that matter, are more common in women than men. I'm guessing that's why there are less men here. There are lots of smart people here who are more than willing to answer any questions you might have. Good luck to you!
Avatar n tn I shelled out over $850 in out-of-pocket expenses in April, for NOTHING. It will take a lot to get me back in a doctor's office. I pray you get better.
Avatar f tn I am now taking 300 mcg of Levoxyl and I am feeling much better. All doctors try to push synthroid but it has a LOT of side effects and most are not sure what they are, yet. I have heard many women on forums commenting on the adverse affects of synthroid. Please talk to your doctor to switch you to levoxyl and try getting pregnant abt 6 months after that. I have had a thyroid problem (at least became aware of it) since they found out at 7 yrs old. It was hyper-thyroidism.
Avatar f tn If you are receiving too much of this medication it can have serious side effects. Levothyroxine (synthroid) takes time to build up into your system which is why you may have felt okay on it initially. I would suggest that you contact a medical professional. Any chest pain is serious. I would urge you to go to Urgent Care and have your symptoms evaluated. Make sure you take ALL the medications and Vitamins you care currently taking with you.
Avatar f tn I am also in menopause so I am not sure if this is why I am sweating more or the Armour. No other side effects thus far. I was on synthroid and it nearly took all of my hair out. I hated it.I kept asking the doctor about it and he was saying that it was nothing they could do because synthroid was the best medication to take. I think it may be but if you don't mind going completely bald then yes by all means take it. Has anyone else had side effects from any of these medications?
198187 tn?1190637930 My prescirption plan E scripts charges $20 for three month supply of generic and $70 for three month supply for synthroid. I cannot take generic because it does not work and I get side effects.
