Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid levoxyl levothroid

synthroid

Avatar n tn In the United States, brand names include Synthroid, Levoxyl, Levothroid, Eltroxin, Tirosint and Unithroid; Generic forms are Levothyroxine sodium USP and L-thyroxine. There is still debate over whether generic thyroid supplements are as effective as thyroid brand name supplements.
Avatar f tn I have been on the drug since the end of January when my endo switched me from Synthroid to Levoxyl (125 mcg). For about 3-4 weeks now I have noticed that my blood pressure is higher than normal, 138/78, it used to be 110/70. I get heart palpitations and my chest feels like it is squezing in the front and the back. I discussed my symptoms with my endo and was sent for a chest CT to rule/out a PE. That came back fine.
Avatar n tn Other brand names of the same chemical compound are Synthroid, Levo-T, Tirosint, Unithroid, and Levothroid. However, please do not change prescription medications on your own. Please discuss with your doctor. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history.
404389 tn?1217030704 Synthroid, Levoxyl, Levothroid, Unithroid. Be careful though. They are the same main ingredient but use different "binders". Personally I cannot take the generic and only do well on the Synthroid - others are quite opposite. You will find many of us out here who swear by a particular brand (or the generic) and refuse to switch because of bad experiences. If you are going to switch, talk to your endo first so your labs can be monitored.
Avatar n tn Levothroid, Levoxyl, Levo-T, Synthroid, and Unithroid are all name brand Levothyroxine drugs. I may be missing a whole other group of drugs, but you may be able to find one of the above. Best of luck.
Avatar f tn Was dx with Graves disease almost 12 yrs ago and had the radioactive iodine treatment at that time. Was placed on thyroid medication and seemed to tolerate it with no problems with allergic reactions. For the past 5 months I've been dealing with medication problems and difficulty adjusting my thyroid levels. It went over active and then underactive. I've been on both generic and brand name Levothyroxine.
Avatar f tn Doc wanted to put me on t4 only ones now. I have tried generic synthroid, synthroid, levothroid, and levoxly and had bad reactions from them all at low dosage. Now not sure what to do. Just wondering if there are some out there that cannot take the t4 only and what do they do?
Avatar f tn synthroid, levothroid and currently have been on levoxyl for over five years. Now that my thyroid is gone is there a preferred thyroid replacement that is best? My surgeon was going to switch me off of levoxyl after surgery, but I resisted and wanted to stay on the levoxyl. I figured my body would be going through enough changes and shock already. I'm experiencing almost steady heart palpitations and heart pounding, since surgery two weeks ago. Could this be related to thyroid med?
Avatar f tn Hope someone can help. I have had low to no thyroid function all my life. I was on synthroid made by "flint" from the age of 4. When flint stopped making it I had to switch to the now "synthroid brand and have had several allergic reactions. My doctor switched me to levothroid made by forest and it was awesome no side effects no swelling in my tongue or throat. I had no swallowing problems.
937837 tn?1285350385 What do you think is better? I am currenty on Synthroid, but I have discovered it contains Lactose, and I have been mildly lactose intolerante for years now. Most of the synthetic brands have lactose, so I think I might go to natural.
393685 tn?1425812522 Yes Thy - I forgot to add that to Synthroid. Please also include Levoxyl on the Synthroid poll please.
1139187 tn?1355706647 I have been taking levoxyl since about 6 months after my diagnosis of hashimotos and I started on levothroid my the ent doctor but my endo prefers levoxyl and I have been taking that ever since January of 2010 or sooner. I have mainly been on levoxyl.
Avatar f tn I started off with levoxyl and ended up with synthroid because i was complaining of extreme exhaustion and it helped me. Instead of being exhausted all the time, it occurs mainly in the late afternoon/evening.
Avatar n tn LEVOTHYROXINE (Levothroid®, Levoxyl®, Levo-T®, Synthroid®, Unithroid®, and others) acts as a replacement for people whose thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. Generic levothyroxine tablets are available. The doctor miss informed your mother all together and should be reported - if what you say is true. RUN to a new doctor with those labs and get her in Synthroid.
Avatar f tn Long story very much shorter, we have worked our way through almost all of the thyroid meds - Synthroid, Levoxyl, Thyrolar, even Armour - and right now I am taking Levothroid and Cytomel. So far, so good. We don't know exactly what it is, but there is no doubt I am reacting to something in the thyroid meds themselves. I wouldn't recommend going off meds for an extended period of time but, if your symptoms improve in a few days, you should ask to have your thyroid meds changed.
Avatar f tn An interesting question. Go to the FDA site and research Synthroid. "Synthroid" is not necessarily "synthroid". By that I mean, for various reasons the brand name is the same, however the composition has changed several times. Also look up Levoxyl.
Avatar n tn I was switched by my pharmacy from Synthroid to the generic, Levoxyl, about 6 months ago and seemed to have developed a facial rash which is somewhat splotchy over my cheeks (more on one side than the other). Is it possible for generics to cause this kind of a reaction. My TSH levels seem to remain in check ranging from 1.0 - 2.25. I am currently on 200mcg/day.
7074596 tn?1387754708 I believe that Levoxyl is the generic for Synthroid.
Avatar n tn I am also on Levoxyl. I switched from Synthroid, mainly because it is cheaper. I do not notice a difference, and that is a good thing. It doesn't cause anxiety. I had anxiety when hypo, so that went away on the meds. You do need to be careful of the t3 in Armour. It is extracted from pig thyroids, who have a higher ratio of t3 to t4 than humans. Give the Levoxyl a good go before thinking about changing. (Like months and until your TSH is optimal.
Avatar m tn I'm currently taking Levoxyl 50 mcg after being on Synthroid for years. It's been 3 months but I feel like I have worst symptoms. 50mcg Levoxyl 5.18.2016 1.22 0.450-4.500 uIU/mL Triiodothyronine,Free,Serum010389 2.7 2.0-4.4 pg/mL T4,Free(Direct)019745 1.55 0.82-1.77 ng/dL 50 mcg Synthroid 2.26.2016 TSH004264 2.34 0.450-4.500 uIU/mL Triiodothyronine,Free,Serum010389 2.6 2.0-4.4 pg/mL T4,Free(Direct)019745 1.4 0.82-1.
Avatar m tn prior to my TT I was taking 50mcg of Levoxyl...post op my endo wrote me a prescription for Synthroid. Is there a major difference and or side effects from these 2 drugs. I am currently on 75 mcg of Synthroid 6 weeks post op and my TSH is now at 12.1...pre-op was at .5...and 2 weeks post op was at 1.0....the switch to Synthroid was at my 2 week post op appt. I am just wondering if the drug switch has anything to do with that...
Avatar f tn Levoxyl is indeed a brand name levothyroxine, like Synthroid. It's the only brand my insurance covers, that's why I take it. It's works out best for me but the name has been a real pain. Now, before leaving the pharmacy counter I have to take my med out of the bag, read it and make sure it says 'Levoxyl - 112 mcg.
