Synthroid empty stomach

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid empty stomach

synthroid

Avatar f tn I know there is an issue of empty stomach and when your stomach is actually empty. I know morning is the best time and I do take it then. I am not new to thyroid meds and took Armour for 40 years - long story. Anyway, basic question is - what would be the problem with taking the first half on empty stomach in A. M. and other half about 5 hours after a meal?
1026267 tn?1257591273 When the instructions say to take Synthroid on an empty stomach and hour before breakfast, does that mean no coffee for an hour also?
Avatar f tn t eat any snacks afterward in order to make sure your stomach is empty by bedtime as Synthroid must be taken on an empty stomach. It typically takes at least 4 hrs, or more, for the stomach to empty, depending on what you eat. It's unlikely to be the Synthroid causing your lack of sleep. You might try taking a calcium and magnesium supplement before bed. They both tend to have calming effect.
Avatar n tn also i am getting different information about whether cytomel can be taken with food, or on an empty stomach. also i am on yaz birth control, which i take several hours after my cytomel--is that ok? please help.
252327 tn?1250183976 30 before I eat anything. I have never thought of taking it at night since they want your stomach empty when you take it. This is the only way for the synthroid to go through out your system.
Avatar m tn I can tell you that synthroid is best taken first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, or just before bed if you eat an early dinner (4 hours before bed or more). You will want to take vitamins at least 2 hours after your morning dose of synthroid (4 hours after if the prenatal vitamins include iron); if you are taking the synthroid at night, you can take the vitamins with dinner or earlier in the day.
Avatar n tn I know have a round of antibiotics (Ampicillin) that I am supposed to take twice a day on an empty stomach as well. Can I take both of these meds at the same time in the morning? Thanks!
Avatar f tn same thing, vitamins can be hard on your stomach, especially on empty stomach.
Avatar n tn You should take your Synthroid in the morning on an empty stomach and then wait at least an hour to eat anything. You should keep most other meds at least four hours away from the Synthroid if you can. I can't. I don't know if Zoloft will mess with the Synthroid. Calcium is a big no-no in the morning. Vitamins should be spaced several hours away, like lunch time. There are other specifics, too, but I forget. Sometimes you have to compromise a little. The key is consistancy.
Avatar m tn Also, are you taking the Synthroid on an empty stomach in the morning, with nothing but a full glass of water, then waiting an hour to eat or drink coffee? Milk and food can interfere with absorption.
Avatar n tn I Take mine first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. My prescription bottle even has it in print "take in the morning". It also states do not take within 4 hrs of taking antacids, iron or vitamins, or mineral supplements. Take with plenty of water.
Avatar m tn Regardless of when you take it, you should take it on an empty stomach (with a glass of water), and wait an hour to eat or take any other meds. Some supplements (like calcium) or drugs should be spaced four hours away. The main thing is to be consistant. You can take it every day with a cheeseburger if you want to, but it will change how much drug you will absorb. Take it the same every day, and you will have fewer problems with dosage changes and hormone levels.
Avatar f tn I researched possible solutions and just started (4 days ago) taking my NT on an empty stomach in morning and taking the synthroid on an empty stomach at bedtime. Mostly, feels somewhat better all ready, but still some gas and stomach issues and low energy with low mood. Do you think I am on the right track????? HELP! I feel like thyroid patients are having to do all their own medical research to find relief.
793305 tn?1493925518 Can I take Levaquin (quinolone antibiotic) at the same time as my synthroid...pharmacist said yes, but I'm skeptical...Everything messes with synthroid...but both need to be taken with lots of water and on empty stomach...kidney infection...my third in a year. How rude.
Avatar m tn Synthroid should be taken on an empty stomach with a full glass of water, then eat or drink nothing else for at least 30-60 minutes. It's also recommended that you not take most vitamin/mineral supplements within 4 hours of taking synthroid (levothyroxine). I did a quick search for drug interaction and came up with the possibility that synthroid may inhibit the absorption of metformin, thereby causing hyperglycemia or glucose intolerance.
Avatar f tn It is recommended to take it in the morning because many have issues with sleep if taken in the evening. It should be taken on an empty stomach and some have problems waiting until the stomach contents are gone before going to bed. Calcium is thyroid replacement's worst enemy. You need to wait at least 4 hours after taking thyroid, before taking any calcium suppliments. That is personally, my biggest challenge.
Avatar f tn Yes, it is possible to have perfectly normal children with normal I.Q's. Keep taking your Synthroid on an empty stomach and I can't stress that enough. Ive had hypothyroid since I was 19, and I am now turning 36. I have three healthy boys. My doctors stressed for many years to take my synthroid on an empty stomach, SAME TIME EVERY DAY, AND DON'T EAT UNTIL AFTER AN HOUR LATER! I take mine first thing in the morning and won't have my breakfast until after I get to work.
320575 tn?1231072041 Thyroid meds should be taken on an empty stomach. When you say your recent blood value, are you talking about your TSH? Did you have your free t3 and free t4 done as well? I personally take my thyroid med first thing in the morning when I wake up, then I eat 1 hour after.
Avatar n tn If I take my synthroid on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning, do I need to wait before drinking my morning coffee?
168348 tn?1379357075 s my first stop, it kind of takes my mind off of my thyroid issues for a little while, and I know all about the empty stomach with the synthroid. Coffee is all I get for a few hours also. Plus it's fun to see what and how everyone else is doing.
Avatar n tn As long as you take Synthroid hours from, before or after, eating/foods or drinks including coffee, vitamin supplements, and other drugs. That is to say, hours of an empty stomach. The reason it is recommended to take it or other T4 medications in the AM and not the PM, is that it can cause sleep problems due to a little boost from the initial swallowing. The important issues is being constant.
1129232 tn?1360800358 m wondering if anyone knows if having a cup of coffee or milk 1 hour after having my synthroid pill can affect the medication. My endo told me to make sure not to take any vitamins with iron or calcium for at least 4 hours after I take the pill. I definitely do not take my vitamins until a good 6 hours after synthroid but given that milk has calcium, i'm wondering if having milk can also affect the pill.
Avatar f tn Its 1:30 AM and I've just woken up because my stomach feels empty, empty tothe point where I'm nauseus and have almost vomitted. This isnt the first time this has happened either. Is this normal? Im nine weeks.
Avatar m tn It says on the information that comes with my med to take it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and don't eat or drink anything for at least 30 to 60 minutes. I've never tried taking it at night. I don't know how that would work, since you are supposed to take it on an empty stomach - would you have to skip dinner, then? Maybe some other members would have an idea.
Avatar f tn oh sorry, my free t4 was normal...did not have a free t3 done. I did read to take the synthroid on an empty stomach. How long have you been on yours? I'm hoping since my tsh wasn't grossly high it will start working within a couple of weeks. my mom and sister have the same issue (hypo) and are on synthroid and are doing well! Thanks again, feel free to comment any time.
Avatar f tn Since Synthroid is T4, and T4 builds slowly in your blood over time, timing is not critical on a daily basis. However, you should take it at about the same time every day, and it's very important to take it on an empty stomach, so most people take it first thing in the morning. You shouldn't eat or drink anything for half to one hour after taking it. I'd probably start by taking it with your first dose of NT in the morning.
