Synthroid dosage for hashimoto's

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid dosage for hashimoto's

synthroid

Avatar m tn You need to bring "attached note" to your doctor's attention, because untreated B-12 deficiency can cause extreme fatigue, brain fog, easy bruising, etc. If left untreated long enough, it can cause tingling, burning, numbness in the extremities. I am, currently, dealing with the neuropathy caused by many years of untreated B-12 deficiency.
Avatar f tn It takes 4-6 weeks for a dosage change of T4 med (synthroid) to take effect. Your doctor gave you a huge increase in medication; 70 days is too long between retest. You need to retest by the end of 6 weeks to make sure your dosage isn't too high; you might very well have been okay with, either 50 or 75 mcg and not had to go all the way to 88. Yes, your TSH is too high. Is your doctor only testing TSH? You should also ask to have the actual thyroid hormones, Free T3 and Free T4 tested.
Avatar f tn s and my Synthroid dosage was increased to 100mcg. Four months later, my TSH was on the rise so my Synthroid was increased to 112 mcg. I am still having classic hypo symptoms but occasionally will have "mixed" symptoms of hyper and hypo thyroidism. Also, I have pain in my neck, jaw, and lymph node areas in armpit, knee, and groin. My doctor says these symptoms are not likely due to my thyroiditis.
Avatar f tn Thank you and I really appreciate your help! I did in fact google it this time. (I love google!) I found a fountain of information. See, I found that my TSH levels are steadily rising, and my endo and I can never get the dosage right, because it seems that once my body gets used to one level of synthroid...it needs more!! I'm currently on 75 mcg of it, and my TSH levels were tested last week at 5.97!! That for me seems really high.
Avatar f tn Is it safe to use propofol for surgery when I have extreme hyper symptoms from Hashimoto's? I have been so tired and fatigued due to a low tsh of .010 for the last 16 weeks since being overmedicated on synthroid. I have some tremors, insomnia, anxiety, panic attacks and extreme exhaustion. Blood pressure and heart rate are normal. I have an upcoming EGD and Colonoscopy as well as a possible gallbladder surgery in December.
Avatar m tn Stay away from the generic medicines. Did the dr run thyroid panel before changing dosage? It takes at least 6 weeks for med to level out, and thyroid labs should be done every 6 weeks until optimum levels are reached and held. Hashimoto's can be a rough ride for some.
Avatar m tn I have been on synthroid for 6 years - just increased the dosage Nov. 2010 but I am now expereincing muscle stiffness/soreness on both of my biceps. Is this a side effect? I went to my doctor and my dosage has been lowered.
Avatar f tn Hi there pursuetruth. I'm sorry to hear that you and your daughter have hashimoto's. My boyfriend was diagnosed as having hypothyroidism, and he takes 50mcg of Synthroid/daily. He has only been on it for about 2 1/2 months, and has noticed some slight improvements, but he is still so weak. His metabolism has slowed due to the thyroid and that causes him to have sluggishness and digestive issues.
Avatar n tn Hello. I am currently taking 100 mg of Synthroid and 2.5 mcg of Cytomel. I feel ok, but could be better. My labs are listed below. This is after 5 weeks on this dose. Please advise whether you think anything should be "tweeked" or if I should just stay where I am at and give it more time. Thank you. TSH 1.24 (.45 - 4.5) Free T3 3.0 (2.3 - 4.2) Free T4 .96 (.61 - 1.
Avatar f tn OK HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH SYNTHROID? I HAVE BEEN ON 200 MCG FOR THE LAST 8 MONTHS AND HAS BEEN FINE, NOW MY THYROID IS ENLARGED AND MY TSH IS 12.8 AND T4 0.78. THEY DID AN ULTRASOUND BUT IT WILL BE FOUR WEEKS BEFORE THEY GET THE RESULTS BACK, THEY SENT IT TO A SURGEON TO READ, HOWEVER IN THE MEANTIME HE INCREASED MY DOSE TO 250MCG.
Avatar n tn Don't go for anything that's not mainstream medicine......It takes 4-6 weeks for the synthroid to reach full potential in your body. If your doctor is treating you properly, s/he would have started you on a lower dosage than you will ultimately need, with expectations of testing every 4-6 weeks and raising your dosage slowly, as needed.
Avatar n tn I am a 21 year old female and two years ago I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease. I went to the doctor due to not having a period, and after she told me the symptoms of Hashimoto's everything made sense (freezing cold hands and feet, slow metabolism....). After being put on Synthroid my period started, but my blood test showed that I was taking too high of a dosage so my doctor lowered the medication. Then my period stopped again.
Avatar f tn I am nearly 49 , 5ft 1 in and am on thyroxin but did go hyper going on the 75mcg dose daily so there is no way , anyone can answer the question about what dose Synthroid someone should be on. Everyone is different. Have you had your labs done? FT3, FT4 & TSH and also your antibodies tests? Get these done as they are the 'marker' for dosage of Synthroid and also gives you an idea of what is going on to be able to try and get your levels stable.
Avatar f tn Hashimoto's is the most common cause of hypothyroidism in the developed world. You should have antibody tests done to see if you have it. When asking for T3 and T4, always be sure to specify FREE T3 and FREE T4, otherwise you will get total T3 and total T4, which are not the same. Total T3 and total T4 are considered obsolete and of little value.
Avatar f tn Tirosint and Synthroid are 2 different brands of T4 medication. Tirosint is a gelcap, containing only 4 ingredients, which are the active ingredient, levothyroxine, water, gelatin, and glycerin. It's basically, hypoallergenic. As a gelcap, it's dissolved and absorbed better than pill type meds. Tirosint starts off at 13 mcg and goes up to 300 mcg. Synthroid is the leading brand of pill type thyroid hormone replacement meds.
Avatar f tn Thank you for taking the time to address my question.
Avatar f tn There's a thread here on to iodine or not to iodine. Typically, it depends on why your thyroid is off -- if it's dead completely, it's too late for iodine (which is what the kelp has in it that helps the thyroid). If it's hyperthyroid, iodine is usually not recommended. And it probably isn't recommended if the problem is an autoimmune disorder, such as Hashimoto's. But there's controversy here.
Avatar n tn Just wondering, my TSH was 86 and I have been taking 100 of Synthroid for almost 4 weeks now. I go to the endo in 2 more weeks, where I'm sure he will do more blood work. Just wondering. Do you feel better? Less fatigue, etc?
Avatar m tn Thank you for your thoughts! When I was prescribed Synthroid, I decided to take levothyroxine instead since it was cheaper. I experienced constipation as well as lethargy. I switched immediately to Synthroid and felt better-no more constipation or lethargy. Apparently my most recent GI upset was due to a virus because it has completely resolved. The only hypo symptoms I experienced were cold intolerance and dry skin.
Avatar f tn What are the reference ranges for the Free T3 and Free T4? Reference ranges vary lab to lab and have to come from your own report. I'm guessing that what you have listed as "Thyroid - 3300.9" is the TPO # you're asking about? I'm assuming that's TPOab, since TPO is an enzyme used to produce thyroid hormone and isn't, typically, tested? TPOab, however, is Thyroid Perxoidase Antibodies - antibodies produced by the body to attack and destroy the thyroid.
2180858 tn?1337716153 I'll have to post them later, but I have been diagnosed Hashimoto's. I have only been on synthroid for two weeks, and off the cortef for two weeks. I'm going to start supplementing with adrenal support.
