Avatar n tn I am 42 yrs old and my medications include Toprol, Simvistatin, and now recently added both Loestra and Synthroid 25 mg. for an enlarged thyroid. Since starting the BC and SYnthroid, I have gained about 10 lbs. I know that some of it is inactivity in the winter, but I don't normally gain like this. I started the Synthroid in November, and feel MUCH better.
Avatar n tn So when I am underactive and just started medication and didn't have problems before with periods that is still normal...ok.
Avatar n tn Now here I am 60lbs heavier healthy eating but cannot lose weight. Can anyone please provide me wiht some information as to how to lose the weight and what I can expect realistically. Are any diet aids- pills safe to take without risking my heatlh. I excerise 3-4 days a week not sur ehow else to fix this disease.
Avatar n tn Your levels being stable can affect your weight loss (if you have any). I found I didnt start to lose weight until my levels were stable. Any amount of exercise I did ...did absolutely ZILCH. Except make me more tired than I already was. In time when levels stabalise...so too does the weight. But dont forget that the weight BEFORE treatment is HYPER/HYPO weight and if you was Hyper...then you may not get back to that weight. I gained 16kgs (hyper) and weighed 71kgs....I now weight 65kgs.
Avatar n tn Post your FT3 and FT4 levels. If you can't lose the weight, maybe you'd benefit from your levels in the upper 1/3 of the range, not just 'in range' as so many clueless endos are apt to leave you. The reason many of us don't lose weight is because many endos still don't test/treat FT3 levels.
Avatar f tn Could be from hormones, could be from almost anything really. I lost fifteen pounds in my first trimester but that was because I was really sick and couldn't keep food down. Don't worry about weight, your doctor will tell you if need to gain more or less if they are concerned. But every pregnancy is different. I've only gained back four pounds of those fifteen and I just started my third trimester. My doc says that's fine because I already have extra weight and baby is healthy.
9595194 tn?1404749116 Untreated hyperthyroidism causes the weight loss, diarrhea, irritability and hand tremors, rapid heart rate and palpitations. Left untreated, it can cause thyroid storm, which can be life threatening, as well as irreversible heart damage. Hypothyroidism causes the weight gain, constipation, cold intolerance, slow heart rate, depression and left untreated, can cause myxedema coma which is a life threatening condition and requires emergency treatment.
Avatar f tn Hi Kim, If your levels are truly where they should be, you should not be gaining weight if you are eating correctly. Diet is the biggest factor in weight loss, and exercise helps out a lot too. I'm reading a great book by Jillian Michaels - Master Your Metabolism. I haven't completed it yet, but it seems good so far. Also, there's another book I've read which was very informative and helpful. It's named The Thyroid Diet by Mary J Shomon.
Avatar m tn I'm using Synthroid for weight loss and muscle growth whle training. Does anyone know - is it safe to buy Synthroid online in places like this? Too cheap and no prescription needed, so I'm not sure.
Avatar n tn i was under the impression the hairloss and muscle loss would get better on the pills. ive only gained 5 pounds but my body has turned to mush and look like ive gained 30 pounds with no muscle mass at all, all soft flab. anyone have a suggestion? hope so--ill check tomorrow.
Avatar m tn Yep, I read it all. Things often don't look so long until it gets posted in one place -- I realize that when I get "long winded" sometimes.........lol I've done a bit of studying on Ayurvedic medicine and have come across ashwagandha a lot, but have never seen it related to thyroid function. I've mostly seen it in relation to adrenal support and for weight loss - I can vouch that it doesn't help with weight loss.
Avatar f tn My doctor put me on metformin yesterday, 500 mg. I am wondering what i should eat with both that will help with weight loss? and if 500 mg of metformin is enough to lose the weight? and obviously any insight you can give me. Thanks!! Avatar m tn Do you guys have any explanation for the weight loss and reduction in testosterone levels? The loss in testosterone and weight is very large given the time span. What are some suggestions? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
1438633 tn?1283891249 It gives your stomach the chance to be able to tell when it is full. And you will lose weight. As far as the headaches, I too get them and was sent for a EEG and was told it was abnormal and was put on seizure meds for that. Do you get any other weird symptoms when you get the headaches.
822804 tn?1298226302 I am 27 years old and am hypothryoid currently taking Synthroid 150mcg and Cytomel 25mcg but am only taking 1/2 tablet daily.I am experiencing hair loss now...larger than normal clumps are in my hairbrush after brushing my hair and I am also losing hair throughout the day, strands here and there.Would this mean that my meds need to be increased or decreased?what should I do?I do not have a thyroid anymore - i had a total thyroidectomy a little over a year ago.
Avatar f tn My dentist says that can cause bone loss and its happening to me, I cannot go off the synthroid, Is there anything other than calcium tablets I can take to offset the damage the thryoid pills are doing to my teeth.
Avatar n tn Come to find out Metformin and Lipitor side effects are diahrrea and due to that you will lose some weight. Both medication targets weight loss my Doctor says, no need to be alarmed. It's safe.
Avatar f tn I have hypothyroid and Hash's and my daughter has many of my symptoms(fatique, weight gain, hair loss etc.) so she went to her dr. The dr gave her a prescription for generic Synthroid 50 mcg. Her test results are: Tsh 1.85 ( .45-4.5 ) T4 free 1.45 ( .82-1.77) T3 free 3.3 ( 2.0-4.4) She has been diagnosed with pcos and is also Metaforim. She has been watching what she eats and exercising. She is even trying to train for a 5K but having a difficult time.
Avatar n tn ve looked at some of the weight loss pills and even tried hoodia, but it did nothing for me. I do know that some of the weight loss pills can cause rapid heart rate and other things, so could be dangerous. I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks to all.
214901 tn?1227567555 Low B12 and low ferritin will also cause hair loss. I had low ferritin, and my hair loss has improved since taking 2 iron pills/day. My temple areas are filling back in. I would have to say I lost about 50% of my hair since May 07, but it was thick to start with and curly, so curls make it look fuller than it is. Going short helped as well. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Low energy, feelings of fatigue, anxiety, depression, mental fog, body aches and weight loss. Normal weight for me is 132 to 135. I am currently at 129 and I will drop to 125 over night. I have found bloodwork from 1999. Appears I have always been on the hyperthyroid side. Here is my bloodwork info that I have. 1999 TSH - 1.0 Everything else appears normal. In April 2010 - couple months after thyroidectomy TSH - 0.04, Free Thyroxine 1.15, Sept. 2010 TSH 0.02, T3 in normal range, T4 2.4.
