Synthroid and calcium citrate

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid and calcium citrate

synthroid

Avatar f tn Take all of your vitamins, b-complex, and vitamin C as far apart as you can from the Synthroid. Many contain iodine and calcium. I've been told by many sources that your body will absorb your vitamins better if you take them right before you go to bed - they have longer time in your body before you "flush" them out. I take two (count 'em 2!) handfuls of meds, vitamins, etc. in the evening and reserve a special place on my nightstand for my Synthroid in the mornings.
536009 tn?1293190781 Just curious are calcium carbonate and calcium citrate one and the same? I have been taking 500mg of the calcium 2xday and each pill has the vitamin d 400. Thanks for that advice... I had hyperparathyroidism,,, and thus had the surgery and now am on this.. I was considering colace...for the old bowel problem....as I really feel the calcium is the culprit of that... Will up my water intake too. Thanks again safe trip!! ..
1026267 tn?1257591273 Did the prenatal vitamin help with the hair loss? I'm starting to get worried about it. I've had periods of hair loss before that lasted several months but then it stopped. This time I'm losing TONS of hair everyday. I am very fortunate to have a head full of thick hair but it's gotten so thin that I"m starting to panic. On the constipation thing, I've tried taking magnesium citrate and it doesn't really help me much with that. I also take calcium citrate.
Avatar n tn To: Dr. Lupo Thank you for the reply to my question on the 26th. I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and have been searching for an answer to the detection of a nodule 3 years ago. Now I have two. I was diagnosed hypothyroid since the birth of my child and on synthroid for 16 years. High TPO's and the nodule detection have sent me to various "specialists" that have increased my meds for reduction purposes. Questions have gone unanswered.
Avatar f tn Any antidepressant can cause this, but Lexapro is known for it. But since you could get this from any antidepressant I wouldn't necessarily give up yet if you think it's helping otherwise. The problem with medications that affect the brain is that they most often interfere with magnesium absorption and vice versa, so adding a good magnesium citrate supplement especially before bed might help.
Avatar n tn The biggest thing I notice is that "it works" - the others didn't. I'm not a chemist, so I can't really tell you the chemical difference between the citrate and the oxide forms, but I've read several articles stating that the citrate form is much more readily absorbed by the body.
Avatar f tn I have been taking 2400 mg. calcium citrate daily as well as .25 mcg. Calcitriol 4 times per day. I also take 100 mcg. Synthroid. My test results for February 23 were as follows: Serum Calcium: 8.3; Ionized Calcium: 1.05; Magnesium: 1.9; PTH: 14.6; T4: 1.2; TSH: 0.09. My test resuslts for March 23 were as follows: Serum Calcium: 10.1; Ionized Calcium: 1.27; Magnesium: 2.0; PTH: 2.5; T4: 1.2; TSH: 0.11.
Avatar f tn It's not the thyroxine that causes the constipation, it's being hypothyroid. I struggled with constipation of and on for years (I believe I went back and forth between hyper and hypo); and now that I've got my thyroid levels close to where I need them, I find that I no longer have to have the "daily help" using the bathroom. I also take a daily enzyme which helps break down food better. Are you taking vitamin B12 shots for your pernicious anemia?
Avatar m tn You can NOT get Armour in the USA without a pescription! The whole idea that Armour or T3 medication cuases osteo is false. It is true that speeding up your metabolism (which is what getting sufficient thyroid hormone will do) will cause increased rate of everything in your body. So the loss of calcium is a SEPARATE problem. The fact that the rate is increase to make you feel will for everything else simply means that you need to take care of the osteo sparately.
219522 tn?1251760629 I hate those big calcium pills, I have to take calcium citrate cause I had gastric bypass 6 years ago, calcium citrate is the only calcium that gastric bypass patients can absorb. I have had the lips and fingers tingling also,,its scary....
Avatar m tn Hi, a better alternative to calcium carbonate is calcium citrate, as calcium carbonate can cause the cramps you experienced. Calcium usually causes constipation. You also need to be taking magnesium with the calcium. Magnesium helps the body absorb calcium and also helps to prevent the stomach upsets. Another cause for your symptoms could be turnips which you re introduced into your diet.
Avatar f tn Was taking Synthroid now taking NT no difference. But endo prescribed Calcium Citrate NOT carbonate 1000mg 3 times a day along with 25 mg calcital One doctor said it is due to low, low calcium (Parthyroids not working) after reading STOP the Thyroid Madness and Menopause Thyroid solution a possible cause is Celiac or Gluten issues-- tests to perform : lgA EMA, lgA & IgG, tTG IgA what to do- cut out gluten easier said than done.
Avatar n tn Drinking water is a great way to dilute the concentration of calcium in your urine and help it wash out instead of precipitate and form a stone. Citrate is a substance that binds with calcium to prevent it from precipitating and forming a stone as well and citrate levels are just as important as calcium levels. If you citrate is low and calcium is high in your urine, then supplementation can help prevent calcium stone formation.
408585 tn?1202158499 It took a few weeks--in some places--they are still light, but I have only been doing it for about two months. Make sure you ask to have a blood calcium test done...and take into consideration your cardiac health as well. Too much calcium is not good for you. Good luck. Oh--forgot to add--I don't take magnesium, but I think it is in the mulitivitamin.
793305 tn?1493925518 I had RAI and I had a few problems at the start of the Thyroxin absorbing so my Doctor recommended taking a Calcium/D3 combination and since taking Calcium/D3, my levels evened out and I am doing great. I even tried taking the thyroxine at night and it did help somewhat but am now back to taking Thyroxin when I wake and Calcium before bed. It is also important to get checked for any vitamin deficiences. Zinc, magnesium, calcium, B vitamins, Selenium, Cortisol levels too.
Avatar f tn Before I can answer your question, tell me how many mg is your calcium tablet and also with the D. Caltrate or Calcium Citrate comes with D but you may want more D than that. Also let me know just how much Vit.C and D you want to take. I heard on a commercial that Calcium Citrate absorbs better than plain calcium. Personally, I don't know the difference but my endocronologist told me the same thing.
773755 tn?1328119777 Most Americans get too much calcium, too little magnesium and too little vitamin D now that everyone's indoors all the time, and too little of the trace minerals such as boron that used to be easily obtained in food but might not be if you eat chemically farmed food.
Avatar m tn I have found very good relief from PVC's by taking 1 Tbsp of Calcium Citrate (Liquid calcium) two times daily with meals. I think a significant number of people's PVC's are caused by mineral deficiencies, especially calcium, but probably also magnesium and potassium. Be sure to take the liquid citrate type calcium (not calcium carbonate which doesn't absorb as easily) and don't exceed the daily recommended amount.
1035021 tn?1296820707 1 magnesium citrate to calcium citrate or a 2:1 magnesium to calcium, and see if it helps -- the reason for the combo is to make sure you don't leach out your calcium, but it's higher than the recommended 2:1 calcium to magnesium ratio. Good luck.
Avatar m tn anyway they re right on calcium and partially wrong on vit D, vitamin k2 mk4 or mk7 is what can fix calcium to bones (other minerals are also more important than calcium) and lower fractures, there are some triasl with results on this.
583252 tn?1289094490 Hi again. I take 4 x 600mgs Calcium citrate. I take two in the afternoon and two at night. I know for a fact Caltrate tablets are not tolerated by many people. My pharmacist said he is trying to get people to take Calcium citrate. I took Caltrate and that was the one that made me feel nauseous. Now I changed to calcium citrate I feel less nausea. Make sure you take the calcium at least 4 hours after your thyroid medication. They interfere with each other.
Avatar n tn So, in other words, high fiber needs to be spaced apart from calcium and calcium needs to be spaced apart from the Synthroid. Oh, so much to manage! ~ But back to the original query… Curious as to why a dr is prescribing vit d in and of itself (?).
219609 tn?1210348114 m taking a water tablets for my high calcium problem, and doctor did not tell me this would cause a low postasssium problem, and getting more tired and weaker by the day, and the dizzy spells are returning, so hoping taking Mag, and Potassium supplements would help,,and experience here
Avatar m tn CA was 11 only the first time I measured on 26th september and ca was 12 on 27th september. Now I took 2 tablets of supracal 200 units which had 200 IU of D3 and calcium citrate of around 1000 mg. Ca can't go from 11 to 12 in one day so I think my supplements made it high. Can this raise your calcium from 11 to 12 in one day ? I'm not sure on which date I took those supplements but maybe on 26th september I took 2 tablets.
Avatar f tn I don't know what normal range is, but if you think you're low then try a calcium citrate supplement and see what happens. The problem with testing for levels of any nutrient is that doctors only test the once, whereas levels vary throughout the day and the week and the month and the year. A holistic nutritionist might test over a couple of months to see what your levels truly are, but it's pretty easy and harmless to try supplementing with 400mg and see what happens.
