Avatar m tn In most cases, thyroid antibodies (TPOab, TgAb or TSI, depending on the situation) should be tested, since autoimmune condition can be present, causing inflammation/swelling and/or other symptoms, long before actual thyroid hormone levels go out of range. In addition, lab ranges are set in such a way, that those with levels in the lower portion of ranges for Free T4 and Free T3, almost always have hypothyroidism, even though doctors refuse to make the diagnosis.

585708 tn?1247192813 I have had cold feet for three years, this went into my whole body about three months ago. I had an ultrasound that showed 4 small nodules and a little bit large. They say my thyroid blood work is on the high end of normal but because I have very low testosterone they are wanting for that to go up (with Andro-Gel but may switch to injectable) before they go for the thyroid, to see if there is a change with normal testosterone, In my opinion.

Avatar f tn Have been having severe depression, fatigue, headaches, ache in hip joints in bed, my thyroid I think is now slightly enlarged and sometimes I feel it pulsing, just odd. No energy or motivation just want to go to bed. Prefer to avioid contact with other people - not maintaining any friendships like I used to do. I am peri-menopausal - last period so far Aug 2011.
Avatar n tn Medication dosage should be whatever amount of T4, T3 or combo T4/T3 types that are required to relieve symptoms. In my opinion the best way to treat a thyroid patient is to test and adjust levels of FT3 and FT4 with meds as required to relieve symptoms, without being constrained by resultant TSH levels. Symptom relief should be all important.
1289966 tn?1326101570 If you have a good thyroid doctor that will treat your symptoms by testing and adjusting levels of the actual, biologically active thyroid hormones (free T3 and free T4), then you should be able to get your metabolism back to what is normal for you. FT3 is the most important because it is four times as active as FT4, plus FT3 largely regulates metabolism and many other body functions. Studies have also shown that FT3 correlates best with hypo symptoms.
1260907 tn?1269748318 Have you researched all hypothyroid symptoms (long list)? No energy and difficulty sleeping, body pain, are common with low thyroid levels. BP is affected too. Get freeT3 and freeT4 thyroid hormone levels checked - that is what ALL cells need. Do not settle for just TSH which is a 'messenger ' hormone from the pituitary to the thyroid. quote "I am 6'1" tall, weigh in at about 235.
Avatar f tn Thanks for replying. Yes it seems my underactive thyroid has been the cause of my infertility as its not been treated as its only just been diagnosed as im only 24 & 1 year ttc now so they checked my thyroid. Im now on medication & doctor says when levels are put correct with the right dose there should be no problem getting pregnant.
5939183 tn?1377163795 What are your actual thyroid levels? Just because they are in the normal range, doesn't mean they are normal for you. If they are too low in the range, you will have symptoms, such as the ones you have. You should be getting tested for TSH, Free T3 and Free T4. Many doctors will only test TSH, thinking that it tells everything there is to know about thyroid function, when that couldn't be further from the truth.
Avatar f tn just been diagnosed wid an underactive thyroid. Doctor reckons thats probably why i wasnt concieving as my hormone levels arnt right. Been put on 50mg thyroxine to start with. Gi back in 6 weeks to get bloods done again to see if my dose needs to be higher. Anyone have any experience on it? & how long it will take for my thyroid levels to right.
Avatar m tn Thyroid peroxidase (TPO) is an enzyme made in the thyroid gland that is important in the production of thyroid hormone. TPO is found in thyroid follicle cells where it converts the thyroid hormone T4 to T3. Thyroid peroxidase test is a test that measures the level of an antibody that is directed against thyroid peroxidase (TPO). Autoantibodies to thyroid peroxidase (TPOAb) are produced within the body.
Avatar f tn I finally have a wonderful doctor that is very attentive to how I feel in addition to the numbers. I believe this is at the root of many of my other medical problems; such as sleep apnea, depression, obesity, and the constant pain I am in. I would like to speak with others about this issue and how they are dealing with it. Please respond.
Avatar f tn terri, I believe you...I am going through that same thing right now. it hurts when your family doesn't believe you, but I have learned we have to learn to let go of hurts. Now that I've learned I have to, I am trying to learn HOW to.(a little funny there). Have you done any research on emotions and the thyroid? It is very informative. read MKlacz's thought for everyday. It is good.
Avatar f tn Previous conditions - I had infantile eczema, dermatitis, hip tendonitis and a recent underactive thyroid -- the underactive thyroid was flagged up on a routine blood test for anemia and has since gone down. Other symptoms -- I do have irregular periods, muscle pains in my upper arm, and I sleep a lot of the time. If it is something caused by an underactive thyroid I thought I would have to be more than my ideal weight?

Avatar n tn thyroid problems could be the main cause of it..i have been doing tons of research since i have thyroid and have found spotting and losing hair.
Avatar f tn however, I have had symptoms of an underactive thyroid for many many years with symptoms worsening with age. What is considered "normal range" for thyroid tests? If I infact have an underactive thyroid it would explain so many things. Any information is appreciated.
Avatar m tn t help and my Specialist cant find anything else wrong with me we have done sonars and test and on Paper i am healthy beside how i feel due to this Hosimothis .
1757697 tn?1313069068 I too have an underactive thyroid. I first had a hyperactive thyroid but got radioactive iodine and therefore it turned hypo. I have been on something like synthoid to keep my levels normal and was able to breastfeed my son for up to 11 months. If you get your levels at a good point then you should be fine.
Avatar m tn I feel cold and chilly often. Occasional muscle aches, especially in the thigh area. Slight feelings of depression. Digestive issues. Any ideas?
