Avatar n tn Can anyone tell me what the symptoms of an ulcer are? I mean, like a serious ulcer. Stomach has been hurting pretty bad for two weeks. Really bad the past few days. 203342 tn?1328737207 What are they symptoms of a stomach ulcer? I've had this gnawing feeling in my stomach lately when I shouldn't be hungry. I noticed it tonight after dinner. It almost feels like my stomach is eating itself! I know that's a strange way to put it. It's kind of hard to describe. I also feel a bit of possible heartburn off and on. At least that's what I think it is. I've been pretty busy so I don't know if I might have missed any symptoms before.
Avatar n tn If she does have an ulcer, she needs to stay away from acidic foods when it flares. This will make it burn worse, some people have the same reaction to spicy foods. If she is under a lot of stress, it will cause an ulcer to flare. I have one and have the same feeling of intense heartburn, and if it gets really bad, I do feel nauseas. Drinking milk usually helps, because it coats the lining of your stomach so that the burning calms down.
Avatar f tn Peptic ulcers can be in the stomach or in the intestines called a duodenal ulcer. I have had one of each (lucky me). Sometimes they will do an endoscopy to find the little sore in the lining and sometimes they will just treat for it. Here's info on peptic ulcers. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/peptic-ulcer/symptoms-causes/syc-20354223.
Avatar m tn bloating after eating (sometimes), upset stomach (often, especially after coffee), stomach pain pretty much right between the breastbone and navel, heartburn (frequently but not always), lack of appetite (sometimes), and belching (frequently). Sometimes the pain is relieved by eating, sometimes it's made worse. Over the past 3-4 months I've had two episodes of burping acid back into my mouth but I don't know if that's related or not.

Avatar f tn Its funny, I have no symptoms of IBS....and Celiac I'm not exactly sure of. See, all my problems started on a DIME, about 8 months ago, and Im just wondering if its an ulcer. See, I heard that H-pylori can cause Iron not to absorb into your blood, etc. I have NEVER had stomach issues and NEVER been anemic until all of this. Weird...thank you for your input, it is appreicated and very helpful. Thanks!
Avatar m tn Do you have a family history of duodenal ulcer. Duodenal ulcer can also be caused by alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, tobacco, taking NSAID's aspirin, brufen e.t.c. The most common cause is the infection with H.Pylori. Does the pain cause you to wake up in the midnight. About fifty percent of patients with duodenal ulcers awake during the night with pain, usually between midnight and three a.m. Duodenal ulcers respond well to treatment, so relax and get yourself checked.
Avatar m tn Hi, your symptoms could be due to a stomach ulcer. As the symptoms are related to food and they disappear on taking antacids. The ulcers are detected by endoscopy. Medical treatment for healing of ulcer is Proton pump inhibitors like omeprazole for 2 weeks which will reduce acid secretion and heal the ulcer. And eradication of H-pylori infection (an organism found in the bowel) by using antibiotics will promote ulcer healing.
Avatar n tn From the age of 11, I have been getting severe stomach pains just under the ribs which last for one to two hours. The pains have never been predictalble and I have no idea what sets them off. I am 23 now and I'm getting sick and tired of the problem. The pain is on the left one time and the right at other times. The only thing I can link to it is sometimes if I skip a meal I'll get hungry and then straight afterwards it hits.
Avatar f tn The upper GI showed a large stomach ulcer and she feels that this is the cause of my stomach pains and other problems, and wants to put me on medication. Anyway, my question is: Is ulcer a possible side effect of the nissen fundoplication procedure? According to the test results they are saying the ulcer spans from the fundus and down the whole side of the lesser curvature.

286124 tn?1214938528 i had emergency surgery about a week ago for a preforated ulcer. my question is this: can lorecet (sp?) cause ulcers? the doctor gave me this for pain, and i'm scared to take anything after the surgery. the doctors say the ulcer happened because of use of goody powders. i've been taking them since i was in my early 20's, i'm 36 now. it got to where i couldn't wake up without a goody and a coke "the fix".
Avatar f tn My name is Sam and I'm a 15 year old female. Recently I've been worried about possibly having a peptic/stomach ulcer. I'm not freaking out over it, but I would like to see my doctor. I've been having pain in my upper middle abdomen. It's either sharp, achy, or burning. Sometimes it feels like I'm hungry. Anyways, I keep telling my mom about the symptoms, and she won't let me schedule a doctor's appointment! Why?
1814086 tn?1316723379 Stomach ulcers cause pain on eating and duodenal ulcers cause pain on fasting (2-3 hrs after eating). Peptic ulcers are eroded areas in the lining of the digestive tract usually in the stomach and duodenum. The two common causes for this are: infection with helicobacter pylori and use of non steroidal anti inflammatory medications (NSAID). So for the ulcer to heal and to reduce acid levels avoid NSAID's, quit smoking, eliminate alcohol and reduce stress levels.
Avatar f tn Have you tried an antacid or something like Pepto-Bismol or Zantac - which I think reduces the amount of acid secreted by the stomach in order to reduce ulcer and heartburn pain or to assist in healing of ulcers - I'm pretty sure it is used to treat stomach and duodenal (intestinal) ulcers, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). That might point you in the right direction. Sounds like you should still see your GP though.
1439252 tn?1283943309 The trial then was testing for a new cause of ulcers caused by a bacteria. The bacteria can bury itself in the lining of your stomach wall and go unseen for years. This trial did not make sense to me , but it was free and I actually received a $100. The trial is now history, because the bacterium that causes ulcers is named Helicobacter pylori. I blew into a ballon and my breath was analyzed, and I was positive for an ulcer.
