1311475 tn?1274198780 I am now taking 60 mg. of methadone, trying to get off of the methadone to become eligible for other pain treatment. I didn't know where to ask this question. The 1st reason I started taking the methadone was due to heroin abuse, which I started to kill the pain from a car accident. I had dabbled in heroin use prior to my car accident. But have been clean for many years now, thanks to the methadone.
Avatar n tn t stand to hear is Methadone gets in your bones which is why Methadone withdrawal is the worst of all opiate withdrawal, both of these are false. There is not evidence based studies to support that it gets in your bones, Methadone is actually stored in fat cells. As for the horror stories of how terrible Methadone withdrawal is, please know that methadone withdrawal is the same as other opioid withdrawal.
Avatar m tn Guys: I need help bad! Over forty years ago, I became a heroin/opiate addict. After 10 years I got on a methadone program and continued on that program for the next 30 years. I was on a dose of 100mg/day. Two and 1/2 months ago, I went through a relatively painless rapid detox program at a place called Florida Detox in Florida. Immediately after the detox I was put on 48 mg. of suboxone/day. My titration schedule had me detoxing off of suboxone over the period of two months.
Avatar m tn Amazing. Your story sounds similar to mine where somehow or for some reason I skipped any physical symptoms of withdrawal from 6 months or so 20mg oxy abuse. I'm by no means an expert but my guess is that you're on a low enough dose where you wont go through much more, physically. The mental part of it was the most difficult for me although I had other issues I was dealing with at the time as well as the withdrawal.
Avatar f tn I returned to methadone as was best option during pregnancy.(fortunately baby had no withdrawal symptoms). Haven't used heroin for about 5 years but so scared of withdrawal, thought i would be on one of the above for life. Baby now 19mths & have been withdrawing slowly so can still fulfill parental (single). I am currently on 4mg and have conflicting info regarding what to do next.
1909286 tn?1379435137 Hi everyone, do any of you want to quit taking pills, but keep taking them for fear of withdrawal? Well that was me too, for over 7yrs I took methadone everyday, just to keep from having withdrawals. I started taking methadone for an addiction to other painkillers, I was told that methadone was easier to withdraw from!! I think the not knowing what to expect is much worse than the actual withdrawal. So if you want off the pain pill roller coaster, you can so do it!
Avatar f tn Yes, Methadone withdrawal has one of the longest processes of any opiate detoxification. You should be extremely proud of yourself because very few people are able to detox from Methadone on their own. At this point, you may have some loss of calcium, minerals or other components that could be adding to the withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar f tn Lowering your dose WILL NOT mitigate neonatal withdrawal symptoms after birth. The fetus absorbs much of the dose, causing mom to be in constant withdrawal if dose is lowered, which is dangerous to the fetus. Federal methadone guidelines now recommend dosage increases during pregnancy. Yes, the baby will go through withdrawal. Most competent physicians will put the baby on phenobarbital or other benzodiazepines and/or blood-pressure-lowering medications to help with it.
Avatar m tn I just recently started a butrans patch to help get me off opioids not because of addiction but because of the failure rate in people using them and my doctor told me sooner or later they would fail for me in one way or another. I have a couple of withdrawal symptoms right now one of them being my back and certain areas of my body are extremely warm and uncomfortable. the other is i am getting really bad anxiety and I hate drugs like xanax.
1271743 tn?1320892461 If you are taking Morphine for a couple of months and the doctor changes you to Methadone, will the Methadone prevent withdrawal symptoms normally experienced from stopping the Morphine?
Avatar f tn I know as a mother that it is not easy to see your child suffer, but understand, this is all part of recovery, your daughters body is undergoing many changes due to having little or no methadone, it will get better, but only if she stays off methadone. The symtoms of methadone withdrawals vary from person to person, mine were like riding a roller coaster, some days were good, then the next day Id feel as if I were back on my first day of detoxing, so shes gonna have good days & bad.
1311475 tn?1274198780 I am having withdrawal symptoms from all of the medications that I take, I mean everything even a laxative. Avatar f tn i am a reasonably healthy 46yo female & spent 18 years on methadone before being involuntarily withdrawn from 75mg methadone over an 8 week period. Last 20mg I came off at 1mg per day. I am now taking (not prescribed) 5-20mg methadone per day as I couldn't cope with some withdrawal symptoms. Suboxone is not available to me in New Zealand & my GP prescribed zopiclone 7.5mg for sleep.
Avatar f tn Please fill me in on all the withdrawal symptoms of methadone. I'm only on 40 mgs a day but after being off it for only two days, I'm so sick and depressed!!! Is depression normal? I mean, I cannot stop crying!!

1434665 tn?1289855538 Methadone has a half life of 3 to 5 days depending on metabolism. This means that it can delay your withdrawl symptoms for that amount of time before you begin to feel withdrawls. What were your symptoms yesterday and have they changed for the better or worse today?
Avatar n tn I would say that it is definately possible for her to be having those things happen because of the intensity of w/d from methadone. Please keep us posted..
Avatar f tn HI My experence with methadine is it usually sets in about 3 days later the withdrawals are typically 7 days but its not so much the withdrawal that makes methadone hare dot get off of but the post withdrawal theres an energy crash that is debilitating that coupled with no sleep can make you miserable just know you got to be in this for the long haul and you got to want it bad methadone is a monster to kick but it is doable its just not like the pills where it over in a week ot 2 methadone detox
