symbicort

757137 tn?1347196453 Because of serious side of effects of both Advair and an inhaled steroid that did not contain salmeterol, I now rely solely on a nebulizer and an antihistamine. I take supplements to reduce inflammation and thin mucus. I have moderate COPD and am doing fairly well, but would benefit from a longer-lasting medication. Any suggestions? This discussion is related to Advair Skip a Day.
5037123 tn?1362663006 One idea is to google - possible side effects of Advair. Possible side effects of Symbicort. See if one of the side effects of either Advair or Symbicort is pain between the shoulder blades. Based on what you find out, I would have a conversation with your doctor. Only a suggestion. I'm sure there are other asthma medications besides Advair and Symbicort which may be a better match for you. Good luck.
Avatar n tn The ER doctor cringed when I told him I was on advair.. He suggested I talk to my doctor and get switched to something else immediately. Stay away from advair if you can!
Avatar n tn The combination medications which include inhaled steroids and a long acting broncho dilater like Advair, Symbicort and Dulera are standard treatments for all forms of COPD. They are also used to treat asthma which cannot be controlled on inhaled steroids alone. Have a blessed New Year.
Avatar f tn I tried to take ADVAIR (love the design) but after one week--everytime I wanted to talk--I had to constantly clear my throat! I could never have more than a few minutes without having to clear my throat! Anyone else with this problem? AND my voice sounded like it was "cracky" or like getting over brochitis!
Avatar m tn So while they do not have the same medications, the medication groups are the same. So id Advair was helping you, Symbicort should also help you. Please discuss with your doctor. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history.
959034 tn?1253671476 Is there an alternative to daily Prednisone for treatment of severe asthma?
Avatar n tn Its probably not that much help but you can use advair with provetil as I was on the two for years until I was moved to symbicort and I can still use the proventil as needed.
746512 tn?1388807580 I have to walk outside to get to some of classes and if I pass more than one person smoking or get too many wifts in my face, my chest really tightens up and I'm forced to use my rescue inhaler. The problem is this has been an almost daily occurence and I hate taking ventolin that regularly. I am already using 800mcg of pulmicort a day and even at that level it has been giving me muscle cramps and messing up my period, so I don't want to increase it. Any comments?
Avatar n tn If you do not get that up, you could start having leg cramps. Advair and Symbicort can cause potassium and calcium levels to drop causing cramps. Take care and feel better.
1425157 tn?1311651679 I would guess that it is the medication. I was fine on Advair, but had horrible reactions to Symbicort. After the first week the reactions stopped. Take care and feel better. It would be wise for you to read as much about asthma as you can. An informed patient is an empowered patient. your doctor relies on you to be able to communicate well about your symptoms and how your medications are working. I have had to bring ideas to the table many times.
959034 tn?1253671476 Hi, I'm almost in the same boat as you, if my need for steroid goes any higher. But how many puffs/day of symbicort are you taking? I'm allowed to take up to 8/day of symbicort 200 on a regular basis. That is the beauty of this one. Unfortunately Symbicort doesn't come in a stronger dose,as I was informed by my specialist. The only other one that is stronger is Advair 500...but you can't up the number of puffs on that one like you can with Symbicort, so it too is self limiting.
Avatar n tn Another approach might be to avoid these two combination drugs, Advair and Symbicort, and substitute individual inhalert for each of the two drugs (the inhaled steroid and the beta-agonist). You could then reduce the dose of the beta agonist but, unfortunately that could not be done with a metered dose inhaler; would require the use of a nebulizer. You should also discuss this with your doctor. I mentioned individual sensitivity to the beta-agonist class of drugs.
Avatar f tn Advair Discus is a dry powder medication. It has large particles of powder that land on the vocal cords and irritate them. While inhaled steroids can cause this problem on there own, I have found the the dry powder medications are much worse for this. As a fellow singer, I recommend that you try the HFA version of Advair or Symbicort. Symbicort tends to be a little cheaper. It works great for most people, but I didn't metabolize it well at all and nose dived on it.
Avatar f tn DO I ALSO NEED TO BE TAKING SYMBICORT OR ADVAIR? WHAT CAN I DO TO TRY TO MANAGE MY COPD BESIDES QUIT SMOKING WHICH I HAVE CUT DOWN TO A HALF A PACK A DAY. WHICH IS ALL THAT I CAN ACCOMPLISH NOW. WHAT CAN I BE DOING TO BETTER CONTROL MY BREATHING WITH WHAT I HAVE ON HAND?
Avatar f tn I was using Advair increasingly the past month till I experienced my first significant flare (had to do an internet search to actually find out what a flare meant) that drove me to see my doc.....she first put me on Symbicort and a decreasing prednisone RX. By the end of the week, the Symbicort did allow me to take the inhalation deeper but only seemed to help about 4-5 hours before the SOB returned, and the prednisone didn't seem to be making a difference.
Avatar f tn It sounds like Symbicort is not working for you. You may want to ask your doctor about trying Advair or Dulera. Dulera seems to work the best for me. Symbicort does absolutely nothing for me. Everyone metabolizies medications defferently, so Symbicort may not be the best choice for you. You do want to get off the prednisone as soon as possible. DO NOT just stop taking it. That can cause serious problems.
757137 tn?1347196453 It is now about two weeks that I am not taking Advair. No withdrawal symptoms. Also I looked up mortality rates with and without Advair. They are just about the same. Another note. By taking Advair I developed adrenal fatigue which was so serious at times that I could not walk. I was treated for this with supplements by a physician who also practices alternative medicine. I have not had an episode in some time and am hoping that, without Advair, this problem is gone for good.
1987536 tn?1337916244 He actually switched me from advair to symbicort, and from albuterol to xopenex. 24 weeks now and my little girl is doing just fine. They do need us to give them oxygen, so take your meds if you need to.
Avatar f tn I never really believed that I had severe asthma but had been put on advair many years ago. Recently I was switched from advair to Wixela as a generic replacement. After only two Puffs off of this I began coughing. I researched Mylan pharmaceutical and the reviews were very poor. I also read the reviews of people who had been switched to this generic and people were really suffering. I told my doctor I would not take it. Her mistake was not looking into it to see why I was switched.
746512 tn?1388807580 Symbicort has a counter, too. When it gets to the yellow area time to refill prescription...haha. I've also had problems because my Proair was low. I agree that rescue inhalers should have counters...people don't have running tallies in their head as to how much they've used. If Symbicort and Advair have them, I don't see why Proair, Proventil, etc can't. It doesn't make sense to me, either.
Avatar m tn Do you take any kind of medicine for your asthma? I have asthma myself and used to have sharp pains when I would take a very deep breath but since I have been useing Advair ,I haven't done that . There is only one draw back to Advair and that is, it is expensive even with my insurance the copay on it is over $50.00 a month but it does improve my breathing so I guess you fight one evil with another.
Avatar f tn Finally my doctor diagnosed pneumonia and put me on antibiotics, Avamys and Symbicort. Unfortunately, either the Symbicort or the Avamyst has given me a fungal infection in the throat (and beyond ... it seems to go down quite far). This was not too unexpected as Advair gives me horrible thrush that lasts for months. My question however is, if I stop taking the Symbicort and the Avamys will the thrush go away, or should I go see my doctor to get anti-fungal stuff (i.e. Nystatin)?
Avatar m tn You might need to take different brands to get better affects. Symbicort is similar to advair and works a lot better for me than advair. You may also need a higher dose if it isn't helping.
Avatar n tn Common COPD inhalers that contain steroids are Advair, Symbicort, Breo and Dulera.
