Swollen tonsil one side only

Common Questions and Answers about Swollen tonsil one side only

swollen

Avatar m tn This past weekend I have been feeling this weird sensation on my left side of my throat and when I look in, I see that only my left tonsil is swollen and a little more redder than my right one. It does hurt when I swallow and I have been very worried. I haven't had any OB or anything on my face that is very noticeable. I know in new Herpes exposures usually it presents it self as sore throat and swollen glands, and my question is, could this be Herpes?
Avatar f tn I looked in the mirror with a flashlight, and my left tonsil was swollen. Allergies are super bad in my area right now, and I get a lot of allergy symptoms every spring so I didn't think much of it. This afternoon the pain got worse, so I checked my throat again. While my left tonsil is still quite swollen, it's not super red, it doesn't have any white patches, it's just swollen and painful.
Avatar n tn This sequence of events suggests that your one-sided tonsillar enlargement was preceded by an upper respiratory infection. The enlargement of only one tonsil with infection is quite unusual and is sometimes associated with the development a peri-tonsillar abscess. That is the development of a collection of pus in the tissue surrounding the tonsil. This is a serious situation and one that definitely warrants medical intervention.
Avatar n tn I went to the ENT Monday because i kept feeling phlegm in my throat. He discovered i also have a swollen tonsil. The swollen tonsil could be from post nasal drip, and the right tonsil is swollen because i sleep on my right side and so it is subject to the nasal drip. Still, he insisted i get an MRI because a swollen tonsil could indicate other problems - like a tumor for one. i had the MRI last night and hope to get results in several days.
Avatar n tn I was concerned about HIV and if having one swollen tonsil with no fever and swollen lymph nodes were symptoms and if the cancre sores are all related of could they be sepearate issues?
Avatar f tn However, sometimes they can grow into larger formations that can cause your tonsils to swell, which would be a reason for one tonsil to be larger than the other one, and they often have an unpleasant odor.
Avatar n tn I have similar problems! Swollen tonsil on one side, also swollen lymph nodes on neck (much larger on side of swollen tonsil) and extreme tiredness and muscle aches! Also my hair has gotten a lot thinner! Been tested for nearly everything, had the tiredness, muscle aches and hair thinning for 8 months, and the tonsil and lymph node for 3 months now!
Avatar f tn Monday my ear started hurting and one side of my throat. Then two days ago I noticed only one swollen tonsil which scared me. I went to the doctor and she acted like it was not a big deal. But it really hasn't went down much and my throat doesn't hurt so much anymore. Like you, I'm under EXTREME stress from my mother being sick, loss of job, abusive relationship situation. I can't leave it, because I have no job as of yet.
1142320 tn?1261359451 Okay so i have had this tonsil problem for a couple months now. One of them is at least twice the size of the other one and they are both inflamed, both types of antibiotics (one stronger then the other) did not work. my test came back negative for mono and strep. The only pain i recieved was at the beginning for 3 days and then the pain went away. But it hurt alot i could not talk or eat and i had huge body aches also. It happened the first night of my menstral cycle that month.
1142320 tn?1261359451 My sore throat was very severe for about a week in May and then it stopped hurting but my left tonsil has remained swollen. The lymph nodes in the left side of my neck have been swollen this whole time too, and I have armpit pain on the left side. I recently developed some sort of illness with coughing, severe sore throat, and sneezing AGAIN... I went to the doctor and they have no idea what it is! I have been tested for everything under the sun... all normal. Hope you get yours figured out!
Avatar m tn Also, on a side note, is it also possible that even though my left tonsil is more effected with tonsil stones, that a lymph node on the right hand side of my jaw would be enlarged as a result and not the left one? Or would it effect the lymph node on the same side as the tonsil only?
454221 tn?1259445739 Allergy would not be a likely cause with swelling of only one tonsil. A tonsil may be the site of concretions, chronic infection, and tumors, both benign and malignant. You would be wise to consult with an ENT specialist. You may need to have x-rays, CT scanning and/or a biopsy of the enlarged tonsil. Good luck.
Avatar n tn I am 31 years old. I had my tonils removed when I was 10. About 5 months ago, I had a horrible sore throat, and decided to look down my throat to see if it was red. I don't recall ever looking down my throat before, so I have no clue what it looked lke before. Anyway, when I looked I saw a round/oval shaped lump on the left side where tonsils should be.
Avatar f tn My right tonsil is swollen and has been for 2 months. The tonsil itself doesn't seem to hurt but when I yawn it is definately uncomfortable in my ear and sometimes when I swallow it is uncomfortable in my throat but nothing extreme. I was in to see my regular doctor in April and she did a strep test, which was negative, and also looked at my ears which she said there was a little fluid.
Avatar f tn Now a year later have swollen lymph nodes on my neck for about a month, swollen taste buds, and a swollen tonsil (my lymph node is more swollen on that side). My doctor said I had a sinus infection and put me on amoxicillin granted it only been 3 days but i have not noticed a difference. I also had a lot of mucus in my throat too which I was coughing up. Also I was having constipation issues which seemed to be semi-resolved.
Avatar m tn I have a slight tension-type headache in the right side of my head, sinus pressure on the right side of my face, a swollen right tonsil, and bronchitis-like symptoms effecting only my right lung. Now I have been struggling with panic attacks and health anxiety for the past couple of months so naturally these symptoms, and especially their unilateral nature, are causing me some worry. I fear cancer or tumors or something of the malignant sort.
Avatar f tn No pain in the center of the throat and I have a small swollen lymph node on that side that all doctors said was normal. What can I do? Should I worry about this and press my doctor for a biopsy? I have been reading about tonsil stones and I have deep crypts on that side, was wondering if that could be the problem? Thanks.
Avatar n tn i have one swollen tonsil and it doesnt seem to hurt the only thing that bothers me is when i swallow. it feels like i have this ball on my tonsil. what could this mean?
Avatar f tn Ive read that the pocket where the tonsil sits can be shallower on one side even making one tonsil just appear bigger.
Avatar f tn But while the right side seems like it would be the swollen one, it’s actually my left palatine tonsil that is smaller than normal. My right side is pain free compared to my left. BOTH have very very shallow craters, and are ridden with pus pockets. I’ve already tried to push and see if they were tonsil stones, and nothing. Both sides are soft and slightly sensitive, more so on the left(small side). The other part of it, is that my lingual tonsil is in moderate pain.
Avatar n tn should I be concerned that only one of the two tonsils are swollen? My left one is totally fine and my right one is pretty swollen. Thank you.
Avatar f tn Hi! Sorry you don't feel good. I think if you have a sore throat for 8 days, it's worth getting checked out. Sore throats can be viral in which case home care is about all you can do such as gargling with salt water, extra fluids, rest, warm tea and broth (soothing), ibuprofen or Tylenol. Viral sore throat usually only lasts up to 7 days, fyi. Bacterial is just as it says, caused by bacteria with strep throat being the 'famous' one. This requires antibiotics.
Avatar n tn About five days ago, I noticed one of the glands on the left side of my neck was a little sore and swollen. The next two days, I woke up with a bit of a headache and that heavy feeling in your eyes. I started noticing a bit of a fever - about 99.5. Now for the last two days, I have had up to 100.5 with white spots on my left tonsil and some pressure in my left ear. All the swelling/pressure is on the left side of my head/neck - but there's no pain or soreness in my throat.
Avatar f tn I am also having nerve pain on the same side and one swollen lymph node that always stays swollen. I have seen my dr numerous times and have tested negative for stds. No one can seem to figure out how this happened or what is going on. I've been on a couple of rounds of antibiotics. I am seeing an ENT for the second time next week. This nerve pain is terrible. Does anyone have any idea what may have caused this? Just a bad bacterial exchange between us?
Avatar m tn I have had hoarsness, pain and high pitched coughing from one side of my throat that sometimes causes choking.
