It started with my left knee just hurting occasionallu, to my knee hurting all the time, to my knee hurting all the time and then occasional swelling, to my knee hurting all the time and it is swollen 24-7. The pain gets so bad that I get what feels like an electric stabbing pain and my knee gives out. And my hips start hurting as well. I tested for RA and it came back as negative, j went to an orthopedic surgeon, and everything came back nothing.
My knee was sore this morning and has gotten worse throughout the day. Now it is 5:30 and it is swollen twice it's original size. It is very painful and feels hot. I did not do anything to hurt it. Any ideas about what could be wrong? Should I ice it or heat it?
I remember the doctor was surprised with me a LONG time after surgery how I said the knee I had surgery on was turning very red and hot compared to the other (w/hot water). He said that was a sign of bone healing but he was surprised it was happening that long after the surgery. You might want to defer to your surgeon- perhaps he/she knows using scar medicine is appropriate later on rather than right now.
Now completely covered from head to toe with what my doctor calls eczema but along the way have had large swollen lymph nodes in my right elbow, then in my right leg just inside my knee, then the same on my left leg. Now I have swollen lymph nodes in my groin, neck, chin, and cheek. None of these are red or painful. The one that was swollen in my left leg is now pea sized and very hard. I also now have Lymphedema in my right leg that is very painful.

t walk on my knee, it is swollen to double the size of my other knee, even my foot is swollen. The entire leg aches, but the knee hurts bad! It gets flashes of shooting pains, and it burns. It is extremely red (although I'm still on antibiotics) and it's hot (not any worse than before, though). I am SICK of this, they don't have a clue what is wrong, so they expect me to walk (or lack of) around like this, stoned on dilaudid, and being totally miserable.
This morning my face is less flushed, the nausea is less and I can walk without crutches, but the knee remains red, hot and swollen, although improving.
Last Fall I had my thumb injected with cortisone for arthritis and/or Dequervains tenosynovitis. The area around the injection site has tissue loss and is now white. But, the pain is gone.
I have Celiac Disease and 4 years ago I was on 80 mg of Prednisone for over 8 months.

m female, about 10 weeks ago, unprotected vaginal, I hear the man has hiv, found out about 2weeks ago, right as I remeber around wk 3 I developed a rash 3 individual rashes deep red almost purple in colour 1 on right leg above ankle 1 on left leg next to knee and 1 on elbow, then around week 4-5 developed hives plus loss of appetite sore throat and muscle pains in arm joints and legs, dnt remember a feveran just rember 1 hot flush where I felt dizzy, around week 6/1/2 I got swollen armpit.
It is still very swollen, It is not red nor hot to the touch and only slightly painful at the moment. I am worried that this maybe gonococcal arthritis and that my epsiode of tendonitis was actually bacterial phase of dgi.
1) Is it possible that gonorrhea could of disseminated in the 2 days before the treatment I received?
2) From what I have read, It seems second phase of DGI (mono-arthritis )occurs just days after the first phase and not weeks.

I'm a 50 yr old (young) female with issues! I have been dealing with both calves & feet swelling to where they feel tight as a drum! Very painful to the touch, My doc put me on a water pills for the edema & a potassium pill. Its not working! Now when I do go to bed at night to bed at night with my feet elevated I wake up with my calves & feet very red & warm to hot to the touch.
A long time later, I told the surgeon how that knee got all red and hot (post being in hot water) versus the other one. He was surprised it was happening that far out from the surgery but told me it was bone healing that was causing it. It is great your mobility is excellent. If you possibly can, I recommend you get to your local gym with a heated pool and walk around in it a few times a week.
Heat therapy is often used. Is your knee swollen at all at this time (after getting out of the shower?)? The closest thing I could find is if you think of your knee joints like a door. And while hot water therapy is common for arthritis, for some with arthritis, they find showers uncomfortable. ??
ve had this since April this year but I did notice my right knee go red, hot and swollen in March. This resolved itself within a few days but I continue to have pain, locking, popping and weakness. The weakness first started in 1998 when someone kicked my leg in from behind me and my knee has given way in 2005, resulting in a bone bruise on my shin from hitting a step on the bus. The bone bruise has healed although I have a dent in my shin from where I hit it.
